I just think her face is really cute. Her body is gross. She looks like a swimmer on the men's water polo team. But her face saves the whole thing.

I don't think her body is that bad.  I think that she's had to dress too indie in most of the films she's been in.  I would say the way she dresses is a big part in that.

Quick question:  Did anyone forget they were watching a movie at any point during the film?  Cause I got sucked into what was going on so much, that I forgot that I was even in a theater.  I'm not kidding.
I thought it was pretty great, and I was into it, but never forgot that I was in a theater. Were you alone?

No, I was with my wife.  It only happened when they got into the snow dream.  I was just too into it.

I've only read the past couple pages, and if Willco's on the hate train for this movie I don't feel as bad saying this; movie felt way too much like The Matrix with Bourne-esque action in place of wire-fu. The ending was practically ripped straight from Total Recall. Anybody who felt the questions brought up about dreams were super thought-provoking should do themselves a favor and watch Waking Life.

I think Chris Nolan should just remake Heat, because he seems to be really gay for heist films atm. First the opening scene in TDK and practically all of Inception played out like a heist film.

Don't get me wrong, Inception was entertaining, but it didn't feel nearly as fun and new as I thought, going in.

Glad Willco's trolling makes you feel validated. :lol

I agree with you overall, though.  Just an okay movie.  I can't understand how it's gotten over 20 pages of discussion thus far.

Now I know my taste in films has leveled up. I posted an opinion about a movie and Ichirou AGREED with it?

I wish I was trolling. People are still talking about this shit movie?

It's the highest grossing movie for adults this year. Grown-ups have spoken with their dollars, Wilco.

The whole world spoke with their dollar already. All hail Avatar :bow2

I'm aware, but if I'm not mistaken, Avatar has made more money than any movie released, EVER. When it comes to people 'speaking with their dollars', I feel it's a worthy example to bring up.

I am not sure the public is a good basis for arguing quality. I can't think of a single year where the highest grossing film was also the best movie.

I already read the first one and the second one just kinda retreads the same ground. And I've reviews and people who have said the same thing. I totally understand the criticism, but their disappointments just don't bother me, I guess?

The comments in the second are more interesting than the post.

Anyone who is surprised at Cillian Murphy being good, good enough to redeem a movie on his own, hasn't been paying enough attention. I'd watch him read selections from the phonebook.

I'm not saying Inception needed to be redeemed, because I loved it, but Murphy shines in anything.

Well, the thing about dreams in Inception is that they aren't normal dreams. They're carefully constructed mazes built to serve a very specific purpose, which is to fool the sleeper and allow the extractor to obtain some piece of information hiding in the sleeper's mind. If the dreams constantly shifted and strange things happened, then it would more easily clue the sleeper into the fact that it's all a dream. BUT it would also make the extractor's job that much harder, because they're constantly having to deal with changes in location, characters, rules, and so on. Essentially, the whole thing would be rather useless.

yeah, most people have already pointed at Cillian Murphy being the best in the movie (save for Tom Hardy).

I still don't understand the dream complaints, though.  It always sound like people are too stuck on that.  Between someone designing the maze, someone dreaming that maze, and keeping the mark from knowing it is a dream, I felt like it made sense not to be as crazy as eternal sunshine.

Not that I mind if people don't like the movie because there are problems.  That complaint just seems weird given the context.

Realistically, probably $140 million of that domestic gross goes back into the studio coffers. Way, way less internationally, depending on the agreements signed. Chris Nolan is en route to make Inception a wash. Great job, bro. Way to spend hundreds of millions on a flick so the studio can make back what it spend. Sound business. :rofl

well, i hope they don't! i enjoy the well written positive reviews as well and they don't bother me. all of this was more supposed to be food for thought than anything else (for myself and others). maybe i WAS a bit overeager to post these here. i'm realizing now that plenty of reviews indeed do seem to cover the same ground. in my defense i can only say that i was truly not aware of that. i guess i hadn't realized that the movie wasn't as universally praised as i had originally thought. but then again, maybe that speaks for me? :P my ignorance at least goes to show that i didn't build my opinion based on hype or anti-hype or because i wanted to prove something or belong to a camp or that i have any sort of agenda. i'm just geniunely surprised and somewhat baffled to find that quite a few critics seem to agree with me on so many very specific points, which i've only discovered now that i've finally decided to read up on some of the reviews. my criticism (as sincere as i claim it to be) sometimes appears suspect even to myself and i do occasionally wonder if i'm not merely talking out of my ass. so i've been enjoying the write-ups of people who are able to put the things that i have felt and experienced into better words.

Personally I'd like to read reviews that have a middle ground.  The ones you posted seem a bit spiteful, while most are sickeningly positive (this is coming from someone who did really like the movie).  Either way it is hard to take seriously.  As you said before the quite from the second link, it is one of the few nice things the guy wrote about the movie.  I mean, really? that is the only positive thing to say about the movie? ok, sure.  I'm not saying it can't be a sincere sentiment, only that it doesn't come off like it.

Oh no, I meant that the problems they had aren't problems for me, really. The one thing I definitely agree with when people bring it up is the action, particularly in the snow level. Still loved the stuff that happened on the hotel level, though.

And you don't need to apologize for posting the reviews! I was just pointing out that I had read similar opinions and they didn't change my opinion of the film. I would never expect you to have an agenda, unlike someone here (who's not even serious).

The comic's actually from 2004, Nolan first pitched Inception to Warner Bros. in 2001.

Yeah, but we're not sure how much detail he went into when he pitched that story. A lot of the imagery, like the machine and the frame of a whole bunch of people sleeping in a room, is very similar to scenes in Inception. Either way I don't care :P

It wasn't cgi. They showed them filming that in the hbo behind the scenes thing. that was all done in camera. They had a rotating set built that spun.

The 2nd half of BB is boring, the action is incredibly dull, the villain is :yawn and there is no goddamn suspense because I don't give a shit.  The movie starts out great but falls apart really quickly.

"The dreams should've been more like real dreams" is near the dumbest, sloppiest critique ever. The point was that they were creating a controlled environment so they could that they could create scenarios to manipulate Cillian Murphy to meet certain objectives. Maximizing the randomness and unnoticed incoherence of dreams would've been pointless.

Yeah, there should've been a scene with Cillian giving a boardroom speech in his underwear CUZ THAT'S WHAT DREAMS ARE LIKE. Duuuuuummmb.
