Sceneman vs. Booze - Official Thread
« on: July 11, 2010, 07:07:53 PM »
Okay I am going to attempt to go cold turkey on the drinking. I managed to cut out the after-work beers and replace them with tea and Dr Pepper, but Im still getting smashed every weekend and Im sick of it.

So Ive decided: 1 month off the booze.

Ive made a thread about it here as a sort of livejournal thing, and becuase I like you guys I think I may find some motivation and support here.

Im thinking of it as a really positive thing, I'll save a lot of money and it'll be very good for my health. Also no hangovers thus much more productive weekends and more time for gaming.

So, flame me, or if any of you have tried similar things in the past Id be really grateful to hear your experiences, and perhaps some tips for not falling off the wagon.

I haven't had a single drink in two months and have only bought alcohol twice since Christmas. Nevertheless my life still sucks.

A few older guys I work with (like 40-60 age bracket) are paying the price for drinking a ton when they were younger.  So you'll probably reap some good benefits later in life too.

I replaced booze with Green, Purple, and Blue Plant Products. Much happier since.

Why?

Basically, I dont have fun when I drink. I love the relaxed feeling of having say 4-6 beers over a period of time, but more often than not I'll drink a whole lot more and get too drunk and not have a good time. Ive tried moderation but its REALLY hard. I come from a family of big drinkers (I'm of anglo saxon descent, go figure) so genetically Im predisposed to problem drinking also.

I feel like Im a bad friend and no fun to be around when Im drunk. I always apologise to my pals after a night drinking, because Im scared I was a douche.

As a result I suffer from really bad anxiety/depression (Im medicated, even) and Im sure alcohol is playing a large factor in that, often becuase I am anxious about what I may have done when I was drunk but cant remember.

Also Ive been bad with money lately, and alcohol is expensive. It'll be good for my pocket, and my health in general (physically and mentally).

Okay, good luck then.

I've been depressed a lot lately. I'm actually drinking more. Probably isn't good, but then again, when I'm drunk, it seems like I don't think about shit.

Also, been drinking by myself a lot lately too.

Aren't you supposed to not drink if you're on prescription mood-altering drugs?

I was going to say jokingly that a benefit is your friends won't call you a douche behind your back.  But it seems it might be true!
