think carefully about which faction you want to join as you can only join one.

you'll get new quests, but you'll gain enemies from rival factions.

WTF why?  The whole East Bay is a POS that looks bad and smells even worse.  It took me a couple of days to get rid of Berkeley's disgusting stench.

Seriously?  What good eats are there in Oakland?

Also, why not just live in SF and take the bart to work? It's only about 30-40 mins going from Oaktown to SF.

And the restaurant scene in Oakland is way better than SF.

Oh you have got to be kidding me

Also, I have a feeling you & your wife are going to hate living in Oakland. Might I suggest Mill Valley, or Palo Alto? Mountain View? Anyfuckingwhere other than Oakland?

Ummm...we have lots of friends who live in Oakland, and I know lots of restaurant people, and do you want me to go on...

Okay so you know some people that sling 'burgers in Oakland and now you're a fucking restaurateur?

Does Zagat even cover Oakland?

(Also we've been living in San Jose for the past 3 years, so anything is improvement)

Oh so you know what a shithole Oakland is and you still want to move there? Godspeed.

All I know is, of all the times I've been to S.F. I've never been like "hmmm, I'm hungry. Wonder what is cooking in Oakland"

Do you even know what I do for a living?

I have a feeling that you're a fucking restaurateur and the pwnage I'm about to get will be sublime.

Oakland isn't bad. Better than San Fran due to the ridiculous costs of living there now.

I kinda like San Jose, though. But I've seen more crime in SJ than Oakland.

I'm a wine importer.  I know, well, hundreds of people in the Bay Area restaurant scene.  I even know folks down your way in SD doing some cool shit.

Nice! Well I guess you're impervious to my uneducated snark. But for realsies I didn't know Oakland had a burgeoning foodie scene going on. Just don't fuck with the BART cops, I suppose.

So who do you know in S.D.? This beer & sausage place called "The Regal Beagle" just opened up a block from my house. The owner just moved down from S.F. to open it. It would be a hilariously small world situation if you knew him!

Oakland has some SHITTY areas, don't get me wrong and by and large it can't be considered a safe city, but the areas in SF we could afford are just as bad.

If I was moving there I'd move to Oakland too. I've got lots of family there and San Fran is just a bart train ride away.

Anyways, every time I go to San Jose I see something bad happen. Last time, when we visited for my grandma's funeral, we went to SJ to visit my aunt. On the way to her house we saw police cops raiding a bar and a bunch of black dudes lined up against a fence, and yaddayaddayaddayadda. I like Oakland more than SJ anyhow.

San Jose reminds me of San Antonio. Every time I visit something happens to make me not want to visit again.

San Antonio:

1. visited Mexican food place, they sold gummi worms! Stuff gave me the worst diarrhea of my life. Lesson learned: never buy from Mexicans.
2. waited over an hour for our food while other people who got their later got their food, when the bill came they tried to con us 40 dollars past what the total should have been. Lesson learned: don't trust mexican waiters.

too many times to count

Yes.  It's fairly safe.  No murders at all, and only one robbery in the past 90 days and one aggravated assault.  It's almost exactly like my neighborhood here.

This.  Go through Rockridge sometime and tell me Oakland is a ghetto.
Yeah my dad's best friend moved to Oakland a while back and when I visited his house it was pretty nice. He was SUPER WHITE and he loved the place from what I gathered, so you'll be fine.

And hey, you moved just in time for the Raiders to stop sucking

This.  There are some really NICE neighborhoods in Oakland too.  That being said you really just have to know how to carry yourself even if you do go into the bad spots.  And why would you go to through areas that aren't as safe?  Because as Cohen has said there are some great food to be found in Oakland and sometimes you have to go through bad neighborhoods to get to them.  It's really not that big of a deal!   :P

No, there's actually a really distinct separation between the nice and bad neighborhoods.  Like I said earlier about not crossing the street.  If you look down Broadway you can literally see the black (east) and the white (west) sides.

West of Broadway (City Center)

But today's highway-closure-due-to-a-crazy-gunman only proves our point furthermore that it's not that bad.  Yeah we were in the car for an hour (normally a 15 minute drive) and had to detour through 13 to get there but we were able to make it to Fenton's in one piece.  AND BEST OF ALL, it just so happens to be their 116th Birthday Celebration today so we got free ice cream and bbq kabobs outside and $1.16 "Black & Tan" ice cream sundaes.

PICS!
