Green Man Gaming is offering $14 cashback, so I guess I'll go ahead and pick it up there.

I use FlyVPN

www.flyvpn.com

It has a free trial that you can use three times a day for 20 minutes, which is enough time to decrypt the game, then set Steam to Offline Mode.

I appreciate their attempt with 1999 mode but people are going to find ways to break it easily. You can't turn a power fantasy sandbox game into a serious, balanced, and difficult action game by restricting reloads and buffing enemy stats. Western devs have typically been miles behind in hardcore skill based gameplay.

It's like Xcom's impossible mode. Sure you buffed the crap out of enemy stats, but the best way to play the game is still turtling behind hard cover with broken squadsight snipers. The other side of difficulty is balance and depth utilization (aka variety).

1999 Mode is legit, I don't think I'm a bad enough dude. This isn't the gaming tourism I signed up for. :(

Turrets just rape the hell out of you. They can kill you about two seconds, and this ain't Gears of War, you can't just shoot out of cover at them. You can possess them, but it only lasts for about 10 seconds and it would take a ton of ammo to actually destroy one, so you just have to possess them and run like hell, sometimes right into another turret.

Just give it some time. People will quickly figure out the easily exploitable/broken game features and from there it's a joke, or at least not nearly as difficult.

Calm down, kool aid chugger, nobody's taking your $59.99 5 hour manchild power fantasy away from you. So sorry that my opinion about a video game caused you to personally attack me.

You've got quite the glass house to be throwing stones. Last I checked game devs appreciate my opinions.

someone doesn't play a lot of steam games - almost everything does this

I think it just has to ensure that the right version of directx is installed for the particular game. It then tricks Windows into using the (newer or older) version that it installs outside of the system directory. Just guessing here.

I am up and running, everything on Ultra, smooth like melted butter

Apparently you get the XCOM key together in the same email as the other games. Did you read through it carefully?
