Kingdom Hearts BBS
« on: September 04, 2010, 04:03:00 PM »
it's out and wow! this is better than KH2 so far!
so far i've finished only two world and they were somewhat short but ehy they were new world! and they were ridden of ice-cream related cutscene and full of disney goodness! also from what i understand each character visit a different part of each world which mean i only saw 1/3 of the world
spoiler (click to show/hide)
they were the sleeping beauty castle and cinderella castle (on note "bibidi-bobidi-bu" loops infinitely on this world in what looks like an attempt to drive you crazy,at least they don't force you to hear little mermaid songs!) the next world looks like to be snow-white,now i'm happy they are doing all the world they didn't the first time but did they all have to be disney princess? do i look like a little girl square?

also the boss were pretty amazing,on the sleeping beauty level i fought a giant animated spindle and on cinderella level a giant soldier that controlled musical instrument with a baton!
[close]

apparently they added a new difficulty mode for the american version called "critical mode" it definitely improve combat by giving me a reason to level up,block and dodge and also by killing me a lot

mmm... what else, skills are now found around or bought like items and you can combine them around to get new skills (for example a special attack + blizzard = special ice attack) there is a special bar that fills as you hit the enemy and empties as you stop attacking,if you fill the bar with normal attack you simply get to pull off a more powerfull attack but if you fill in with specific attack, you change mode and you are powered up for a short time depending on your mode (so far i have two mode, one that triggers by using normal special attacks which give me a hard hitting dash and one that triggers by using ice attack called diamond dust :teehee that turns all my attack to ice) there are no MP instead each skill has a cooldown time (which is very annoying because cure has a very long cooldown!) if you press L+R you get a big reticle on the screen and you can use an attack which hit every you target with the reticle

if you press right on the D-Pad you can synchronize with a character you encountered and you get a new skill set depending with who you synchronize, for example if you synchronize with maleficent you get a sleep based skillset :lol

there is also a minigame which can give you some extra skills if you play it right, upholding the old awesome square tradition of having pointless minigame for awesome reward,it's basicaly itadaki street (which is monopoly with a few added rule here and there) with disney character

but anyway if you tought every kingdom hearts game on a portable was terrible give this one a chance and if you tought every kingdom hearts game was terrible, well fuck you! >:(

There are better games to beat up shit in.  Stop pretending this trash is genuinely entertaining. Let's all admit it sounded like a good idea until we played kh1 and it never got any better after that pile.

yeah, I remember making the mistake of going to gamestop on KH2's launch day. Smelled terrible and there were slicked back ponytails, trench coats, and mounds of acne everywhere-- all dudes too.  It was a freaking NAMBLA convention...

If you have PSP 2000 model or above, you can connect to the your TV using proprietary component cables.  The caveat here is that you need to use the PSP as the controller, which if you TV is some feet away from your couch, not very workable.

blegh those cables are awful!  they only display in a small window, the image is stretched horizontally, and the cord isn't very long so you have to sit pretty close to the t.v.  total waste of money

anyway according to this faq i'm reading i guess i'm almost done with terra story mode which means each story mode is pretty short topping at 15 hours best (probably even less if you don't spend time fucking around with the monopoly minigame and you don't play in critical mode) and with only 8 world (1 is just hercules colisseum,1 is just a minigame hub and the last one is peter pan altough it's a different level than the hook ship of KH1) unless the other story mode are different?
anyway one of the character in this game is named eraqus and looks a bit like sakaguchi
i just realized that eraqus is an anagram of square,i don't know if i should feel proud or ashamed :-\

magus, each storymode is about 10-15 hours, but each has almost completely different scenes and after you beat all three
spoiler (click to show/hide)
the true ending chapter is unlocked
[close]

So the game is actually the longest KH game at around 25-30 hours.

For instance each world seems short when you visit it because you're only seeing 1/3rd of the story and sometimes only visiting 1/3rd the map.   As you play the other characters and fill out the rest it makes more sense and feels more complete.  The entire story and size of each world is about as long as an entire story of a world in KH2.

Ehhhh, I can't agree with that at all.  Some of it really is her at her finest.  Sure some of it is forgettable field music, but it's way better than her tiny bit of work on Xenoblade.

I feel like Shimomura was influenced a lot by classic Uematsu and continues his melodic 8bit/16bit style in a modern era with her own spin.

I've been playing this for the last couple hours. Game is pretty fun so far, even though it's babby easy (playing on Proud Mode I think - whatever the third difficulty is). The boss of the Snow White stage was fuck-awesome. More of that plz

which character are you playing as?

I did Ventus first he's medium difficulty
Terra second he's easy difficulty
Aqua last she's hard difficulty

Now when you actually get leveled and synth awesome attacks they all become pretty easy around the middle.  But the starting worlds go by the above difficulty.  But yeah, KH games are not for NINJA GAIDEN gamers seeking challenge.  They are fun spammy action rpgs where you hit lots of stuff while looking flashy and they explode.

I'm playing Terra. I'd say that about sums up my thoughts so far - fun and flashy combat.

The boss of the Merlin stage was actually a pretty decent challenge. Died on him a few times, although he did kill me in one hit. Fun fight anyway. I just hope I get to beat up Peter Pan soon.

you should have picked critical, bosses kill you in like 2 hits, there was a boss where i couldn't simply afford to get hit because as soon as i got hit,he would combo me to death

anyway i'm doing some arena challenge and learning some passive skills (i swear a lot of these are more usefull than the active skills) before tackling the final boss

Yeah the bosses hit pretty hard. The one on Merlin's stage kicked my ass a few times, but my first few deaths were because of the camera. I was trying to run along the backside of his laser beam attack, but the camera would always do a 180 and flip me around causing me to run straight into it. Insta-death. Took me a few tries to realize I could dash through that. Then I died a few times on his final form where his head does this beyblade attack, which is another 1-hit kill.

Anyway, finally beat this distinguished mentally-challenged colosseum. What a massive pain in the ass that was. If you don't get lucky with the counter guard against the stomping guys, you are fucked and have to do it all over again. So bad. >:(

Actually, on critical mode don't you get an item that stops you from earning experience? I wonder if you can beat the game at level 1. I think the colosseum would be impossible though, since you deal half damage and the time limits aren't very lenient. Unless it's different on critical. I was going to say that mode sounds like a grind, but if it's doable at a low level that would be pretty awesome.

Yeah, some of the reviews are saying the non-disney voices are pretty bad.  Which is weird since KH has always been known as the high point of rpg English dubs (at least that's what I hear, I've never played a KH in English).

It's too bad, because the story in BBS is pretty serious by the end and I doubt it'll have the same emotional impact if the characters sound distinguished mentally-challenged.

Also if you haven't noticed yet, Ventus is the main character of the story and his storyline is the main one.  Terra/Aqua are just support stories to fill out the events around Ventus.

If anyone was only going to play the game once, I'd recommend playing as Ventus first.

I like Aqua's VA and Xehanort sounds pretty good too. Terra and Ventus have pretty bad VA. Especially Ventus, but I already hate children in every RPG ever made so I guess that doesn't help. The Disney voices are great.

i dashed like crazy as soon as he teleported and i was able to dodge him,he never used that attack again

I was able to dash away from that move like 15% of the time, but most of the time he'd always hit me with part of it, which usually killed me. He would always do it after I hit him with two or three combos.

Ventus has some great exclusive final attacks.  Time Slip is rad, Holy (physical) is omgggg, plus with any character Megaflare destroys stuff up.

But then you're doing 50% damage with enemies at 200% health so basically 1/4th the damage as when I played :X

i finished the game with ven at level 27,ven final boss was even easier than terra final boss tough i did die a few times trying to deal the final blow...

anyway, while i really love the game,i don't like most of the additions they have done,D-Link are mostly useless, most of the time the custom deck you get is worse than the deck you would build with your own command, using a D-Link give you a few bonus and a different finisher but again the bonus were never worth the use and the finisher is never good enough to bother,to add insult to the injury, you can't even D-Link in some cases making it even more worthless AND you have to improve the D-Link by hoping a heartless drops a D-Link powerup

shotlock commands seems a little overpowered, they do truckload of damage and you are invincible while executing one so you don't have to worry about enemy attacks,in fact most of the hard boss go crazy with their attack, stop for 2 seconds and then start going berserk again,GEE IT'S LIKE THE 2 SECONDS I NEED TO CHARGE MY SHOTLOCK ATTACK!

the way you gain passive abilities is also very annoying, you fuse 2 commands and add an item, the combination of commands you fused and the item you used give you a passive ability but you never know what you get if you don't use a guide and some of the passive abilities need really specific combination to get, that's just incredibly annoying

lastly i wish the character would be able to share items, skills and stuff like that,it's really annoying having to repeat the mirage arena event again,or having to play the command board everytime i want to get a new shotlock for a new character

anyway i'm off to play with aqua, apparently i missed an item with ven required to unlock the super-duper secret ending so i will have to defeat the final boss again... so annoying >:(

the way you gain passive abilities is also very annoying, you fuse 2 commands and add an item, the combination of commands you fused and the item you used give you a passive ability but you never know what you get if you don't use a guide and some of the passive abilities need really specific combination to get, that's just incredibly annoying

lastly i wish the character would be able to share items, skills and stuff like that,it's really annoying having to repeat the mirage arena event again,or having to play the command board everytime i want to get a new shotlock for a new character

anyway i'm off to play with aqua, apparently i missed an item with ven required to unlock the super-duper secret ending so i will have to defeat the final boss again... so annoying >:(

Key things

1) mirage arena is totally optional.  I didn't even bother going there more than once or twice to check it out.  You don't need the stuff from it.

2) I never used shot locks much, didn't realize you were invincible during them.  Guess that's a good way to dodge some attacks.  I just dodged them normally.

3) d-links are awesome because of the benefits you get.  Like 2xp skill growth, 2x exp, etc...  They're also great for the first part of the game with each character when your character sucks.  D-link items are pretty easy to get.

4) use a guide to get all the passive abilities you want.  I just took what I got at random until the endgame and then I used a guide and got what I wanted to take into the final boss fights.

i understand this stuff is optional but it's stupid that i have to do it 3 times because the developer couldn't be bothered to make this stuff shared between the characters

with this STORY :punch

it is a perfect application of "Nomura's Razor": all other things being equal, the most convoluted explanation is usually correct.
