Bloody Good Time / The Ship 2 for PC and 360
« on: September 08, 2010, 01:43:18 PM »
I had no idea this was coming out, but Ubisoft seems to have picked it up.  It's from the same guys who made The Ship and is supposed to be similar.  Coming out on PC and 360.  Unless Ubisoft messed up the price on their site, which almost never happens, it is only supposed to be $5!

bloody good time - Ubisoft reveals new multiplayer shooter

Ubisoft has announced Bloody Good Time, a new multiplayer shooter being developed by Outerlight (The Ship) for Xbox LIVE Arcade and Steam.

Built using Valve's Source Engine, Bloody Good Time puts players on a Hollywood set, where they will do whatever it takes to get a break in the industry.

Famous Horror movie producer Director X has arrived in town and he always manages to astonish his audience with the realism of his scenes. What you and seven other wannabe actors don't know is that Director X films real action.

The game will feature eight different characters - The Surfer, The Beach babe, The Goth, The Bunny girl, The Showgirl, The Clown, The Gambler and The Stoner - with the action taking place across three Hollywood maps: beach, casino and horror house.

There are also four game modes playable online for up to eight players:

Hunt: hunt down and kill your quarry, but look out for the unknown hunter that is stalking you.

Elimination: murder your way through the cast one quarry at a time to be crowned the last man standing.

Revenge: Each murder earns you a new quarry, but adds to the list of players out for violent revenge. Watch your back.

Death Match: Everyone is a target, no rule here.

Bloody Good Time is scheduled for release on October 27, 2010.

pictures and stuff are here: http://shop.ubi.com/store/ubina/en_US/pd/productID.214569500

On crappy netbook so I can't reupload them.  It's still on the source engine.

If you haven't heard of The Ship, or Assassin's Creed Brotherhood multiplayer that borrows the idea, it is a multiplayer game that is about assassinating another character privately while another person is coming after you.  You had to worry about things like cleanliness, hunger, and things like that and if you didn't manage that properly, your hunter would take you out on the toilet or while sleeping.  The big thing is killing your enemies in private and you had to watch out for witnesses and things like that.  If you get caught, you're put in jail for a brief period of time.   The whole thing comes down to mind games with the other players.  An example is very obviously following your victim to bait them into attacking you in public, and when that happened, they'd be thrown in jail.  From there you could bribe the guard and wait for the person to be released before taking them out.  Or maybe that person was trying to outsmart you.  He would bait you into a bedroom, close the door and be all cautious, and when you walk in expecting to kill him in bed, he was actually behind the door waiting to take you out.  That is without considering that both people had other people they needed to be hunting, and people that were hunting them.

It's out. 5 dollars. Tried it out this morning. The tutorial isn't very good.

tried the demo too

the concept is similar to The Ship but much, much more shallow.  It's faster paced and has more action, but that isn't why The Ship was so enjoyable.  This, and the Ass Creed multiplayer, are more arcade-y and seem to lack the great mind games that were possible in The Ship.

That is only judging based on the demo.  PC version is out next week and I'll buy and play more then.

just some examples of how it is more shallow:
-you can't close doors
-getting caught is nothing anymore.  In The Ship, it meant you were going to jail.  This meant you were stuck in an area for some time, your hunter knew exactly where you were, and you lost your gear.  In Bloody Good Time, you lose the current weapon you're holding and you get stunned for 2 seconds.

I didn't play enough to see the effects of not taking care of yourself (sleep, toilet, hunter) but I wouldn't be surprised if you don't die from that stuff anymore.

okay, after some digging i found out i had to delete clientregistry.blob and restart

played a match, quit halfway through, because apparently although someone can shoot me with a shotgun point blank i can't stab them while facing them (or something, it just kept telling me i couldn't stab the guy so the dude wasted me)

also people would just stand around right in front of you waiting for the match to start so they could get a quick kill right off the bat

that's so unique! completely different from any other multiplayer game!

fuck this game, shoulda kept that $4.50 and given it to a trick or treater

I had no clue this already came out on PC.  This game was just kinda secreted to release.

but yeah, it sounds pretty busted.  The demo was worrying enough, and from what I've seen of Ass.Creed Bloodlines multiplayer, that seems to capture the thrills of The Ship more than Bloody Good Time does.

I might still pick it up since it is only five dollars.  It is a shame that The Ship won't get a proper sequel, though, Spy Party gives off a similar feeling.

I'll try the demo, simply because I've never even heard this coming, and it sounds a little like Assassin, a game we used to play in high school and college:

When I saw it was $5 dollars I almost just pulled the trigger but then I remembered that I didn't like the trial demo.

I'll wait for AC 2 Brotherhood if I want this style of game.

yeah, I'm a bit more excited for Brotherhood now.  I was hoping this would be better since it was from the same people, but with all the problems with ubisoft and the team shutting down and whatnot, things didn't turn out bad.

At least The Ship was (probably) and influence on Brotherhood.  I hope if they ever have multiplayer in a Hitman game, they look to The Ship too.
