I like Halo but I've never really been big into the whole atmosphere of the game. It basically boils down to space marines fighting evil aliens. It's not the deepest take on sci-fi and honestly when it tries to get really "deep" that's when it either gets stupid or really baffling.

ODST was the most moody its gotten but I thought that was saddled by a lame gimmicky game.

Would you prefer it if it had  a song from a famous pop star, and they were a merry band of warriors off to save the world?

Halo's been full of jokes, and friendly people, and saving the world, and races working together.  It's basically the star wars of fps.  It's a feel good pg-13 trip to save the world from the evil faceless flood and scary monkeys.
ODST even had a cute pet alien you babysat.

I prefer that friendly mood Halo over a gritty tough GEARS Halo.

deliver hope is, like, the best videogame commercial ever, are you distinguished mentally-challenged or something?

I don't even know what that is.

I saw a trailer that had a bunch of dudes land on a planet, run through big open empty environments shooting covenant that kept landing and bursting out of pods and then they get to a ship and fly into space and it becomes a crappy space shooter.  Looked the worst SP ever in a Halo.

They all die in this halo. This is the big defeat. The death of the other spartans. This is the fall of reach. This isn't supposed to be the "feel good" one.

Halo's 9/11 was Harvest.

And all the Spartans don't die on Reach. Then again, maybe they all do in this one, since Bungie can't be trusted to stick to a daggum literary adaptation. Bunch of hacks.

yea the game didn't live up to the hype but i sure as hell hyped before that.

the ad and that long E3 demo they had was awesome (though they changed it alot in the final game).

Halo is actually the only FPS I play. The rest of the genre can go disappear in an Afghan cave.

As much as I like to complain about Bungie's utter ineptitude when it comes to Halo's story, I still enjoy playing the games. (Not counting ODST, of course.)

I have a friend who is a huge Halo fan and does not like ODST. Was fucking shocked when i heard that personally.

TF2 is almost as casual as Call of Duty.

Counter-Strike 1.6, Q3A, and UT99/2K4 are the best competitive FPS, and at this rate probably always will be. But as far as consoles go, Halo CE and Shadowrun are unmatched.

All I care about is fun. Whatever the "fun" fps is, I'll play. People can take their "competitive" listing of games and shove it. Just saying.

Halo is fun. Call of Duty is fun. Battlefield is fun. There are other shooters that are fun also. That's all normal human beings care about.

To many people, the fun games are the ones that are competitive.

I hate to even mention this game, but it's like people who complain about competitive Smash Bros. players. They can like playing the game with items and wacky gimmick stages, but a lot of people find that to be a far cry from fun and only want to play with items off, Fox only, on Final Destination. Just saying. :)

Halo 2 is probably my most disappointing game of all time. It was still good in its own right, but as a sequel to Halo CE, Bungie blew it big time. Halo 3 was better, but it was still kinda meh. I've got high hopes for Reach though.

My feelings toward Halo have always been centered around the MP portion.

I liked the original especially as the last remnants of that N64 gather around a console and play split screen. The single player was interesting for its time but I also remeber finding it repetitive and confusing with the level layout. But it had great graphics for the time and some nice scripting which was rare in console single player games of the time.

Halo 2 I played a shitload. I remember crazy times of waking up and playing it and going to bed and playing it and having done nothing at all in between but play that game. In retrospect Halo 2 had some balance issues on the mp side but it was still the best console fps by a large margin of the era and the online features it had at the time were unmatched. I didn't understand a lick of the sp storywise but the gameplay seemed fun enough in it.

I think Halo 3 was a good balanced game that for whatever reason never clicked with me. I remember being super impressed with it when I bought it. It had all these new features and such. But other games were starting to rise around that time that I was finding more enjoyable and more interesting. I checked out on Halo 3 much earlier than I thought I would.

The less said about ODST the better from my perspective.

And Reach seems like a greatest hits edition of Halo which seems about right after a decade of Halo games and bungie leaving.

I'm honestly more curious about the next halo game from 343 and to see if they mix it up. But I am excited to play Reach. We'll see if it ends up being more like Halo 2 (I play a ton) or Halo 3 (good but I prefer other games) for me.

I played the hell out of Halo 1.  People loved it because it was the best console FPS around for years.  Large maps, interesting multiplayer modes, great weapons, and fun vehicle gameplay.

Bought Halo 2 day one, played it through but stopped after that.  MP maps didn't seem as fun.

Skipped Halo 3 and ODST.  Just seems like they were going through the motions (for the former) and just putting something Halo out to get some easy cash (the latter).

Reach seems interesting though but somewhat of a shell of the older Halo games of generations past.  Will Gamefly it for sure.

that Deliver Hope ad is pretty much exactly like the parody I came up with a few weeks ago with my coworkers

so tired of the Halo/Gears military fetishism/slo-mo/"moving" piano or acoustic soundtrack/CG commercial nonsense

"see, it's a space military shooter, but this commercial is set to something slow and contemplative instead of Hans Zimmer, wowwwwwwwwww"

it's the exact same RAH RAH jingoistic nonsense as Michael Bay only it has the added side effect of making you all look like weepy figurts to boot. at least Bay is honest about his obscene emotional manipulations.
