I think everybody is indifferent about the Dave Matthews band.

They are absolutely vanilla. I find it impossible to hate or love or indeed even muster strong feelings about them one way or the other. They just....exist.

I don't think it's true that people are indifferent to Dave Matthews.  I've had friends that were absolutely obsessed with them.  They tended to be very straight-laced however, and less open to exploring different styles.  I think Dave Matthews' blandness is comforting for alot of people.

The only album I ever owned of his was the one he did with Tim Reynolds, which was actually quite good. I don't dislike them but even when I was sorta in a jam-band phase and DMB were probably at their peak at the same time I just was never feeling them. The kneejerk hate is over the top, though.

I remember really liking "Stay", whichever album that was on.

What year is this?

All I know about the band is that some friends were big into them years ago and I didn't like the majority of the music.  The three songs I remember liking were Stone, Two Step, and Crash.  I think everything else was acoustic guitar and a guy mumbling that was supposed to sound good if you were high.  This is the first time I've heard someone mention them in like four years.

Then the next time I see them, "So what did you think?" and I'd be all: and they'd be like OMGDMB!! and I'd be like, "OHHHHH YEAAAAA I didn't listen to it yet." They'd get the sweats like they had fucking diarrhea or something. Jesus, calm down, it's fucking DMB. Yea, I know you think you founded them, along with the billion other fans that I probably don't like either.

Now that I'm older I like chill music and might like them, but back then, I was 18 years old, went to hardcore punk rock shows and wouldn't be caught dead with that pussy shit in my car. Luckily it was only a few people like this, but I always wanted to say, "What about me makes you think I'll like DMB? Have I shown an interest in similar music to you somehow? The last band I saw live dressed up in really cheap Halloween costumes that tie on with nothing on underneath, one of the guys drank 2 gallons of milk on stage, forced himself to throw up, and all the guys rolled around in it. But thanks for the CD, I'll give it a whirl."

Honestly, I started listening to them when I was in the 8th grade and liked everything they've came out with since, so I guess that makes me a ten-year fan.  In high school, I was a band geek and I smoked a lot of pot, so DMB, Phish, and Jack Johnson were always in my CD player.  I don't listen to Phish anymore though, because when you're sober you realize that their music just goes on for hours without resolve. 

I enjoy their music but I've never tried to push it on anyone.  Although I was pretty upset their for a few weeks after their sax player died; he was kinda a hero of mine.
