how well do the old jedi night games run on Win7 64 bit?

The two quake 3 engine games, Jedi Academy and Jedi Outcast, run perfectly and there is a nice widescreen fix for them.

I'm not sure about the older games.  I last played Jedi Knight 1 on my Windows XP computer years ago.

What makes Call of Pripyat better than vanilla?  I sort of liked the atmosphere in vanilla STALKER, but the janky combat was a bit too much for me to handle.

before I go on, I should say that I like the combat even if it was rough.  I play it slow and peak around corners and things like that; all that isn't drastically different from the main game since it is an expansion pack.  What is improved is general accessibility by way of the game structure, interface, and so on.  The world now is basically three large zones instead of the more wide paths that were were in SoC, and because they're really large, there are fewer times when you hit the end of the map and it loads to the next one.  Missions/quest are gained by just meeting people and mostly involve exploring the world--actually, I should mention that the combat does feel different because you're not having shoot outs in tighter areas until the end of the game and I feel the combat works better because of it.  Those missions have choice, but it isn't like in Fallout where it's good, bad, or even for a faction; the choices you make are just the choice you make.

An early game example is
spoiler (click to show/hide)
where you have a quest to find an artifact.  When you get there, some guy tells you a sappy story hoping you'd give it up out of the goodness of your heart.  When you return the quest giver, you realize this dude was just fucking with you and he basically stole from you.  But if you refuse, this ill-mannered gent and his boys will pull out the guns and rob you by force.
[close]

I'm not good at articulating why it is better, but it is.  I think it is good enough that even if you were soured on the original stalker, it might be worth giving it a shot.  Just remember that it is an expansion pack and somethings aren't completely different.  Or you could always just download mods and cheat through it.

buh? CoP is not an expansion. def does not require the original. you're probable just confused about the loyalty promo where you get CoP cheaper if you owned a previous STALKER game.

i'm guessing the reason they only bundle the first and third games is because they are widely considered the better ones and Clear Sky is kind of shitty.

I'm sure I read somewhere that it was an expansion that required the first game.  Maybe I'm going crazy.

Disregard everything I've said then.  EVERYTHING.

haha, yeah I hate Oblivion with a vengeance.  Played like 10 hours on X360 version that I paid $70 day 1 for the LE.  Biggest disappointment ever.

Still bought it yesterday to play the not-0blivion mods like Nehrim.  I wouldn't mind playing the actual Oblivion game if there was a mod to make the combat completely different and fun.  As it stands it's the most boring rpg combat ever.  Also a mod to make the dungeons not just long caverns with no good loot.  I'm up for exploring the world and talking to people.  Just the gameplay part sucks.

Did you try Shivering Isles?  Supposedly it's much better than the main game, especially for gamers who want a more linear experience.

I've been playing Oblivion a bit and it looks quite dated.  I'm gonna install the Qarl texture pack to spiff it up a bit.  Are there any mods to improve the NPCs?  That's my main gripe with the visuals.  Everyone is so damn fugly, even compared to Fallout 3 which didn't have the best looking people either.

Yeah, a lot of the 50% of sales are still pretty expensive.  At 75% off I'd have bought most without a thought.  On the fence with Divinity.  I mean you get 2 games for $20, but when are you ever going to have time to play all that.  If you just want to play a little and check it out, $20 is expensive :\

I'm iffy on Mafia II DLC because it's a great great price, but I wouldn't play the DLC eps until I finish the main game and who knows if I'll ever finish the main game ^^;

Front Mission Evolved is $13 on Amazon and activates on Steam.  I might go for that since it wasn't in any of the sales  >:(

I just got the two main Mafia 2 DLCs even though they're supposed to be more arcade focused instead of story like the main game.  Probably the last thing I'll get during the sale.

Was hoping for Divinity II for about $10, but I was going to buy it before the end of the sale if it wasn't a daily deal anyway.

Joe's Adventure connects to the main story because it's focuses on what Joe was up to during the time Vito was in prison. I haven't played it yet, so I don't know how much story it actually has, though.

Weird, for me in Japan, Mafia II shows up as '0.00% off - $49.99' :lol I don't care, since i got a code for free a while back anyway but it's kinda silly.

Finally gonna check out Zeno Clash. Been intrigued by it for a while.

Zeno Clash has good art design but the gameplay kind of sucks.  It's fun for 30 mins and then repeats for 3 hours.  Also the game has a non-ending total.  Frustrating since it actually has a plot (Zeno Clash 2 will probably answer questions).

For $4 I guess it's worth it for the art, but while I liked looking at it, I didn't enjoy playing it much.  I'm more interested in their ball rolling game coming next year since it's same wacky art but with hopefully more solid gameplay.

That's almost exactly the impression I had. I watched a whole video show on it and the story seemed quite fresh but punching people in 1st person doesn't appeal.

also got the CoH expansion, Divinity II pack (purely out of curiosity, no way I'll ever play through it all like you said) and Swarm Arena.

Civ 5 is about the only big thing left on my list but it can wait 'til summer, when it'll be patched a gazillion times and probably more fun.

The Void is €9 on (euro) Steam at the moment and is also part of the Indie Fright Pack which is just €5. On the American Steam store I believe it's just $5!

The Void is a russian-made dating sim with a starvation element in survival horror trappings. It is one of my favorite games of the forever and I think anyone who likes 'games are art', eastern bloc games or digital art installations should pick this up. Now, this isn't to say that it isn't a proper game for it is very proper. The mechanics are real interesting; you grow and collect color in the world which you use as a resource to keep yourself alive, but in turn also have to use for everything else that you do (attack enemies, plant trees which will in turn grow more color,  feed girls, etc.), even staying alive depletes your color, so the entire game has a real strong focus on resource management.

This is Ice-Pick Lodge's second title, their previous being Pathologic which is also an amazing game, but marred by a horrid translation. The Void, surprisingly, features fantastic voice work fully realizing the sense of famish in the characters. The world is also drab and horribly depressing (in that quaint Russian way), so when your trees sprout color it really feels like you managed to pull yourself out of the heroin addled hole the game seems so adamant on pushing you down into.

If the game sounds interesting, but you're too much of a knob gobbler to deal with the difficulty inherent in a russian indie game there is a fantastic Let's Play on Something Awful that concluded half a year or so ago. I don't know if you can access the thread without a membership, but all the videos are on viddler.

no, it looked good when i added it, no need to apologize!  but the writing is atrocious and plentiful, and it takes forever to skip through.  the actual gameplay is okay, i guess, if you can suffer through all the speechifying that happens before just about any action you take.

Buying the PC version seems like a bad idea. I was considering it until I read that it wasn't getting DLC and that it's kinda broken.

dunno whats supposed to be broken. seems perfectly fine to me. and no dlc isn't an issue honestly. i can't imagine we'll see much more than just cars. plus it's more than  :yuck 30fps :yuck

The biggest issue Ive seen with the PC version is autolog is pretty busted and the lack of a good friends list system is kinda stupid.

autolog works perfectly. the only issue is it isnt integrated into steamworks. but it's friends list works fine - as does autolog. sounds like anti-pc FUD.

annnnyyway. just bought my final game for the sale:

Final damage:

Men of War: Gold Edition
Lara Croft GOL

I'm not too pleased with the PC version of Paradise (because of the lack of content) so I think I'll pass on the PC version of NFS. I'll probably pick the 360 version up once my dad get's working again.

1. Autolog works perfectly
2. Friends list is a non-issue. It is painless to add friends to your autolog. Game even recommends a mutual friends list with those already in your autolog.
3. DLC point is interesting, but honestly, if it's just extra cars then it is kinda pointless as you pretty much stick to the fastest cars in the game anyway.

Are any of those other games any good? I know of The Path, but the others I've never heard of. I bought the indie fright pack for my bro so should some of them turn out to be good that would be a good bonus.

And thus ends another major Steam Sale where I acquired 50-100 games for $200 that realistically I may play 5 of them to completion.  Oh steam, how I love and hate you.

I've heard Zombie Driver & Scourge Project are bad.  I know The Path is bad and I would assume Burn Zombie Burn is bad looking at the game page, so it really does seem like The Void is the only thing good in that pack.

that's a shame, but the void is fucking awesome though so $5 is still a steal.

Zombie Driver's been updated a lot since release and it's actually pretty fun. It's pretty much an action-driving game with a top-down view where you run from one location to another trying to save people as hordes of zombies roam the street. Nothing particularly deep, but it does have upgrades that you can unlock and a few extra modes on top of the main game to add another hour or two of play. It's worth $1.

I bought virtually nothing this time. I think I spent more on Gifts than stuff for myself. Although if it wasn't for Kosma & Jinflas :bow2 I would have bought some $5 stuff.
