Catherine was a success because it was put on a platform where people actually buy games.
That and the HAY GUYZ SEXXXXX marketing.

That probably helped too.

And a tsundere.

There is nothing remotely tsundere about Kaine. What the fuck are you talking about Himu?

Eh, what I've played I seen an aggressive young woman who you try to help who feigns interest and "doesn't want your help even though I'm getting my ass kicked"

Classic tsundere

just like how everyone was intimidated by final fantasy 7 despite never having heard of final fantasy, making ff7 a huge bomb.

FF7 had a huge multimillion dollar marketing campaign that lasted months. Does not even compare.

Picked this up, I'm really impressed by the storyline and writing so far, its very refreshing to play someone my age. Having split up with my gf over her wanting to get more serious and dedicated, the first chaptere certainly spoke to me.

The puzzle elements are kinda eh, I almost wish I could skip them

We did, and it lead into another one. It seriously messed her up on many levels, but I can't blame her. She really wanted kids from me. I was just very erm, clinical, about the whole thing. It was very very sad, but eh, it was mother nature's choice. Like I previously said, she had a medical history for this. She has a kid from a precious relationship, and she had 2 miscarriages before it worked.

I still love the girl, its just that the history between us is so heavy now. She's coming over tonight to try Catherine actually  :lol

Holy fucking shit.

Who thought an escort mission was good in a puzzle game with a rampaging boss?

The AI is so dumb that it just decides to die for no reason randomly.

How the fuck do I save the dudes that come to the bar? I talk to them and they still die.

AI part sucks but you can tell them to stop.

As for the other people in the bar just talk to them in the bar and dream.  A lot of people leave the bar after a certain time so you have to choose who to converse with.

Catherine is awesome

Nier has some of the worst gameplay I've experienced this gen.  I gave it a fair shot though.  After reading the twist, I may give it more of a shot and pass up all the fetching.

The AI would randomly stop moving and get fried even when they were told to keep moving. Happened about 10 times before I finally beat it.

As for the other people in the bar just talk to them in the bar and dream.  A lot of people leave the bar after a certain time so you have to choose who to converse with.

I've talked with everyone, waited until everyone else left the bar and I only managed to save Todd and Archie.

goddamnit, and I haven't looked into the secret cheese mints, but I imagine there's one for each.

i have time to get like one of them...but in these "grey choice" games, I always just go with my heart.  I need to beat it before Deus Ex..which is basically a tight squeeze for me these days, even though that's like 3 weeks away

I don't think the ending possibilities are spoilerish, if anything, they're logical and reflect your options in real life, but I'm just talking about the one I'm going for here:
spoiler (click to show/hide)
I think I'm right on target for True Cheater. At least, that's what I'm going for.  May as well do what I wouldn't do in real life, unless it were 10 years ago.  I'm also in the process of getting hitched by a "Katherine" myself. Though my girl is sweet as can be and never a blatant bitch unless she's joking around.

On the last stage get Gold.

Make a save at the beginning of stage 7. When you beat the game and get gold, you will be able to redo that chapter and skip levels because you got gold. This means all you have to do is pick the choices and repeat. So long as you get gold so you can skip stages and a chapter 7 save, you can re-do the chapter until you acquire all endings.

 :P

So the answer is no.

There's an achievement for every ending, but they're all pretty easy to get since you can skip any stage you've got a Gold prize on. You only need 3 separate playthroughs as well (one for each alignment), so it's not too bad. Just a little tedious.

Got the gold on stages 1-5 on Hard, so I guess I'm around half way done. Should finish it all up by tomorrow, and then I'll tackle Rapunzel. Game's pretty fun on Hard and you have play pretty much perfectly to get the gold (ie. combo everything + collect all the coins).

I liked that part a lot too. I enjoyed the game's story mostly due to its sheer ambiguity, but when they flat out had a convo with Thomas at the bar and he reveals all the evil secret plans and shit, I thought it started to go down the toilet. I thought the finale left a bit to be desired as well. Katherine and Vincent getting married was great, but the whole "it wasn't real" and actually explaining the supernatural events and Katherine buying it felt too...silly. It was like the main character of P3/4 revealing to every single slink he encountered about the dreadful events that took place in town. It's completely unnecessary and takes away from the element of mystery. I think those revelations should have been made to Vincent only and only in the dreams, so that when he wakes up, he doesn't remember, but still goes through a full character arc. Erica being a post-op made no sense to me either, sure Orlando and Jonny hit at it earlier, but it felt completely unnecessary and added nothing to her character.

Just finished up Hard mode. Now I just need to do Rapunzel and get all of the endings, and I'll wrap this game up.

Overall, it's pretty great. There are a few really annoying parts due to poor design (ie. way too much randomness, to the point where luck overpowers skill - like Obelisk), but they only account for like 2% of the game. The rest is awesome. This will definitely be one of my top 10 games of the year.

what's the ratio of story-y stuff to puzzles? I played the Japanese demo a while back and the puzzle stuff were fun, but playing the demo now, the story stuff seems like the more interesting part.

It balances. The latter portion of the game is mostly puzzles, and the stages get longer and longer. I thought the balance between the two was perfect.

it takes them a good 5 days to realize there's any problem with vincent's situation.  it's so cute-- they're trying to break down adult situations for a teen and weeaboo audience.

So, this game is 8 levels, right?  I'm on the 6th at 6 hours in...but I don't feel almost done.

Got my 1000/1000. I had a few problems with the game, but I still enjoyed it a lot. I'm glad to be done with it though.

This is my feeling, I am actually enjoying it. I find it's a little like LA Noire for me, where I just want the story to progress and feel that some of the gameplay is getting in my way.

Final boss with camera changing every 5 seconds was beyond horrible. Not difficult just annoying. This game has so many random dumb design decisions

The camera during the bosses can be annoying, but it's not so bad if you just slow down, or stop and wait a moment for their attack to finish. The worst part about the final boss is the meteors that drop toward the end. I died a couple times because I was hanging off the side of a block, and the meteor came down and hit me way before I could react to it. Randomness :-\
