Cyniculture had a good design, Devo. Honestly I hate web design. My passion is print, covers, stuff like that. Web design feels impersonal and cold, and rarely artistic. It's rare that a websites design contains an actual message, so it doesn't work with me. Though it can be fun, I don't like doing it professionally.

It makes plenty of sense. Web design is neat looking, but it's rarely used as something used for expression. Even most web ads are one note. That's fine and all, and they're cool, but I find the production process tedious. The best you'll get, in terms of messages and artistic expression, are banners.Demi: agreed.
It really depends and most of web design is less about designing - in the artistic sense - and more about putting pieces together to form the site.
Apples and oranges, but I hate web design work and it bores me.
I also dislike how so many jobs demand coder monkeys to be designers as well.
All I want to do is make pretty pictures. I could not give two shits about coding this or that.

They're two different things to me... but they both present the same thing: information. It's just on a web site you need functionality due to the many forms of input and display. A book you just read the paper.
Yup.Edit- Himu that's a bad example of a website to compare. You probably chose it because it was a "magazine" theme but beautiful websites are beautiful because they eschew much of print's concepts. Choosing a site that tries to be like print is just lame. It's like why the new iCal is an abomination. Skeuomorphism can suck it.

It's like... people debating games as art, those who say games aren't art are comparing them too closely to other forms of art, like movies. But it's something entirely new and different and you have to change how you appreciate it. Games are fun to play, movies are fun to watch. Print is pretty to look at, websites are fun to interact with. Something like that. Not strictly of course. You can have games that are fun to watch and sites that are pretty to look at.

It and creativity aren't really related because creativity blossoms no matter the medium. Doesn't change that I find web design to be tedious, though. Your have your tastes and I have mine.
