To be fair, Western developers seem to be slowly and completely turning into complete assholes regarding Japanese developers and games. The sense of entitlement is becoming quite hilarious to watch, actually.

Especially considering the track record. First we had Bioware a year or two ago lambasting Japanese RPG developers, yet they released the steaming pile of shit Dragon Age 2 and failed to produce any sort of ending to Mass Effect 3. The Fez developer, who has yet to release a game, etc.

I agree with Blow that there is too much hand-holding in some japanese games. (Constant interruptions in Skyward Sword are annoying.) But Western devs are falling into a similiar trap by trying to make easier versions of their own game.

I think, from a game design perspective, you might have to remove the concept of an ending to provide multiple player choices and paths. You can probably wrap player choice paths around and through each other, providing different routes and variety in a sort of complex knot of flowchart arrows, but as soon as you decide there must be an eventual destination via an ending, you're stuck with pushing all those choices towards somewhere outside that knot.
