I'm not sure you (or any of us) have the data to talk about what the "large majority of lurkers" are reading GAF for. If, like most gaming sites, the largest group of visitors to GAF are teenagers, it's entirely possible they take it in earnest, not to laugh at it.

Those teeny folks register and then flush the forum down the toilet with their posts. The people I have run into in real life all laugh at the forum. I think unaffiliated forums tend to laugh at it too. A poor example, but I think 4chan uses it for comedy sake.
