I would be shocked if this ends well for Lexi but we'll see. Obviously Thailand is known for having quite feminine transsexuals, although I'd imagine many start on hormones early and wouldn't need an extreme surgery like that.

If anything goes wrong she won't be able to sue or get any compensation. To make matters worse, US doctors would be scared to do anything for fear of lawsuits too. We've had patients from China and Russia with atrocious dental work, ie shit that should land someone in prison - and wind up having to pass on working on them for potential liability reasons. Obviously there are good doctors in those countries, but Thailand is not the greatest country out there to put it lightly.

When this happens the usual suspects will just blow it off and continue to talk about how technological advancement is somehow killing the industry and that for some reason you can't fit gameplay into a game with all those graphics.

Also, hardware does not make games more expensive, software development does. Ironically, better hardware means it's actually easier to develop software. The thing that happens is developers choose to continue growing and pushing the limits of this new hardware, and that is what becomes expensive. Nintendo stopped doing this, and I guess some people are just defending it so hard that they now want to argue that everyone else do the same.

I was worried after the success of the Wii that this is exactly what would happen, but thankfully it seems like innovation (in software development, not in console design) has proven to have longer legs. Nintendo has very cleverly carved out a very safe niche for itself, but I will not agree with people who propose that the entire industry should recoil into a corner and stop chasing the frontier. Nintendo has its market, and you shouldn't have to spend so much time defending what that means actually to you as a 'gamer' in the long run. I'm looking forward to seeing Zelda in HD, but I'm not going to actively support the fact that it's only just now happening. If that's the way it has to be for Nintendo, then so be it - I'm just not going to try to spin it into something that's praiseworthy.

This is selectively ignoring huge chunks of reality and is spinning a lot of bullshit though.  If everything he says is true then supertech is a white elephant for hardware manufacturers and merely redundant for software houses.  It's more complicated than that - It's probably so complicated that it's not even worth discussing.  I'm gonna be boring and say the more diverse the better.  Corndog is sly about it, like you - he looks like he's saying he thinks that's good but his language gives him away.  At the bottom of it is that Nintendo hasn't done anything wrong and their idiot fanboys need to understand that don't have to defend them at all, let alone virulently and aggressively.

I'd rather plan an Infinity Engine RPG than anything that's come out in the past few years [that isn't made by Bethesda].

Nintendo's not really turning back the clock and resurrecting excellent game design from previous ages, though, so much as they are sticking their thumb on the minute hand and hoping that people don't notice or care.
