It's the safe choice. 96% of people will be fine with it (or pick the pepperoni off), once you start adding other toppings the % starts dropping fast. Like 80% of people I knew at college would never eat mushrooms in or on anything including pizza, green peppers was like at 60%. Something like sausage/pepperoni would get half the people picking the sausage off the pizza.

Then there was this guy I knew in high school who would get sausage/pepperoni only, pick all the meat off, eat the pizza, then eat the meat.

I love experimenting with toppings and trying different shit. Philly Cheese Steak pizza? Why the fuck not? I prefer sausage over pepperoni, though, and I enjoy heavy use of veggies on my pizza: peppers, onions, awwwwwwwww yeah. But people only ever order pizza...with cheese...and pepperoni.

Move away from Texas, it might help. I can't think of a pizza place near me that actually serves a straight pepperoni pizza. My current favorite is the ham and green apple pizza from Flying Squirrel.

It has nothing to do with location. It is merely a social observation. We're talking about from multiple places and multiple states and it is always pepperoni pizza. The only place the differentiated itself was NY for obvious reasons.

I don't see how I'm a snob or anything for wanting people to at least try different types of pizza toppings. Pepperoni has its place, and sometimes it's very VERY good! But dammit if it's not the only kind people order. It's like they have no imagination or they're just fine with doing the same thing over and over. I never throw a fit or say a word, I'd just kindly suggest we order a different topping with some pepperoni on it.

My current fave:

- black olives
- banana peppers
- ham
- sausage
- red onions

One upside of liking more stuff on pizza is if you have an office or class thing and they get a variety of pizzas they normally get a couple "Supreme/Deluxe/whatever" that have all sorts of stuff like meat, peppers, mushrooms, etc. Then they get a bunch more of ham only or pepperoni only. Usually you can be one of a couple people eating from the "fancy" ones while everyone else takes from the simpler ones so you get more pizza. We had these meetings to do at the State Capitol and they ordered like six or seven pizzas and me and this other guy basically got to eat a "deluxe" one each because the other 16 some people only wanted the single meat ones. Though the stray person would sometimes grab a slice and pull almost everything off it just to get more pizza.

Yeah, I rambled, but I rambled about PIZZA.

In my Elementary school we actually had brunch days that featured a sort of pizza that contained scrambled eggs and ham on the pizza dough. The memory is fuzzy but I think the egg was placed over the dough (replacing the cheese and sauce... or maybe the cheese was still there?), with the diced ham and all baked together or something. It had to be good if I can fucking remember it here and now.

There's a pizza place / brewery a few blocks down from my apartment that puts together some great pizza with relatively eclectic ingredients.  Their menu seems to be rather by-the-numbers today, but last week I got a delicious pizza there that was striped with a balsamic glaze over spinach, feta and mozzarella, and through the winter they serve duck pizza.  Quality beer, too.  I take all the bitches there.
