people harp on it being fake. No shit. The next time you watch a movie - better yet, a movie starring a fake ass super hero - i'm going to scream in your ear,"IT'S FAKE!!!" with a smug ass smile on my face as if I'm in on some secret that you aren't when you're watching a fun ass movie about a nerdy teenager getting bit by a radioactive spider. Bringing up "it's fake" makes anyone look like a goddamn idiot.
The appeal of pro wrestling is:
1. athleticism - you have to be tip top shape to be a pro wrestler. Not all wrestlers are the best athletes, but many certainly are talented as all hell. many pro wrestlers are former athletes themselves; the rock, for instance, used to play pro football in canada until a big time injury killed his career. These guys do high flying moves and look flashy and sometimes technical while doing it. Sure, it's fake. But it's like saying,"It's fake
" when watching a Bruce Lee movie. Anyone with a modicum of sense knows that Bruce Lee is not REALLY decking those fools out, but he sure as fuck looks cool while doing it.
Displays of pro wrestling athleticism:

VIDEO Pro-Tip, Big Show, who Brock Lesnar body slams here, weighs at least 500 pounds here. Fake or not, scripted or not, Brock Lesnar body slammed a 500 pound guy from the top rope. Ballin.
JUST THIS WEEK:
Antonio Cesaro does his finisher on The Great Khali, a 7 ft 1 GIANT.
More Cesaro god
2. PAGEANTRY AND TRADITION
Watch this and get goosebumps and tell me this isn't cold as shit.
VIDEO 3. Acting and storylines.
One big aspect of pro wrestling is the drama. It's no different from watching a comic book movie. There are good guys and bad guys, you know the good guy is going to win, but how it happens is the absolute best part.
VIDEO Sure a lot of storylines are stupid, but that's no different from anything else. It can be funny
charming
VIDEO heartwarming and breaking
VIDEO and sometimes downright engrossing.
VIDEO 4. These guys work their asses off for our enjoyment. You can say it's fake, but that doesn't stop a man being thrown off a 20 foot tall cage and landing on a table and then WRESTLING AGAIN just two days later. No other "sport" has this.
Mother fucker hits his head on a table. Comes back the next night.
VIDEO Chris Benoit does a headbutt head first off a ladder. "It's fake
"
VIDEO "It's fake"
The amount of love and dedication these guys have for their fans and their job transcends and has no bounds. People like pro wrestling because these guys give their all, sacrifice their bodies, get addicted to pain killers and worse, just to get that crowd pop and 15 minutes of adrenaline. I respect that.
5. WRESTLING IS FUCKING HILARIOUS.
6. Wrestling is intriguing. What
compels a man to become a pro wrestler? I WANT TO FIND OUT. The business is crazy as hell, and like Toxic Adam, behind the scenes it is fascinating to watch and examine. As you become older you start to predict storylines, question booking, talk about backstage crap, who is being pushed, who is being buried and why, who is breaking kayfabe, who's the attention whore, who has the biggest ego and what are they doing in life to fuck up even more?
