I heard this game has loot and is more like Borderlands than L4D?

I thought it was just another L4D clone.

No, it's not a L4D clone. Yes, it's like Borderlands.

respawns in the game are kind of shitty, as well, i died three times in a row because the fucking respawn kept dropping me either right next to a suicider or in the middle of a bunch of infected

I got to the cutscene at City Hall, and they were talking about the Police Station. Are you supposed to go there at some point? All I remember is the loudspeaker saying that it was taken over by the looters. Are there quests there?

it has a lot of problems and reeks of eurojank, but i still like it (i'd probably like it a lot more in co-op as there are whole sections of the game which are clearly designed to be handled by more than one person, like the bullshitty part i mentioned above)

I'm playing with my superior PC gaming master race comrades in arms

We're having so much fun busting out crazy combos and sledgehammer juggles

I shudder to think what the console ports look like though.

Popular zombie-basher Dead Island is still top of the UK games chart.

Dead Island sold more copies in two weeks than any other game published by Deep Silver has managed in a lifetime.

Dead Island is also now outselling PlayStation 3 exclusive Resistance 3 on the PS3 platform alone.

another brilliant design decision:  no maps inside the buildings

also, lost an awesome 700+ damage magnum pistol via glitch, added it to jin's storage so i could have an open inventory slot to pick up something else, and it just disappeared the next time i checked

that's okay, i decided at that moment to use their jank busted shit to my advantage - i now own two copies of all my best weapons via the weapon dupe glitch

Okay, just beat it.  The last few hours of the game are just frustrating, waves of undead coming at you, obviously designed for co-op play.  The ending is kind of a big shrug, as I didn't give a crap about any of the characters -

spoiler (click to show/hide)
when Jin died all I could think was "Fuck, there goes all my stuff." :lol
[close]

Hopefully they'll fix a lot of the more miserable aspects of the game in the sequel (scale it down a bit for single player, tie the story together better so there are fewer wtf leaps in logic, tone down the repetitious boss encounters, etc).  Also, did we really need to see the animation and hear the character eat every single  time you pick up an energy drink/fruit/snack?  Those things give such a tiny health boost that you have to consume 3-5 of them to make a difference, and watching the "grab/gulp/smack" animation gets really, really old.  I like it when devs know you are fully educated as to what eating and drinking look like and just give you the health when you click on it.  Who gives a shit if it's "realistic?"

Over all, I enjoyed it, although there were times (especially midway through the city section and towards the very end) that I had to force myself to continue.  I never ran into the save bug, but I experienced several other bugs throughout the game.

Just finished it after about 22 hours, I think I did all of the side missions I could find and was level 36 or so. LOLworthy terrible ending but when the core game mechanic of fucking up zombies is so good I can almost forgive it.

I didn't like fighting in sewers though. Fighting in a swanky ass resort and hotel was cool, I can play CoD if I want to shoot mans in Iraqi toilets.

Just started playing on PC. The game looks beautiful. I played 2 hours before I realized I could kick. SO now I'm dumping skill points into kicking. I just got my first spiked stick so I'm ready for another round tonight. Slaying zombies has never felt more satisfying than with this targeting system. It makes combat more intimate and way more disgusting.  :yuck

Just picked this up. When you boot it up it says it has been updated to include level scaling and it recommends you turn it on. Should I?

I really didn't like the level scaling in Dead Island, just made the whole game feel like a long grind with your character actually seeming to get weaker as the game went on.

Edit: It may only be for co-op, I'm not sure.

I turned on the level scaling but I have no idea how the game is balanced so I don't know if that will be annoying or what. I'll be playing it co-op with one other person. Odd option to stick in for booting up the game for the very first time.

so level scaling is turned off by default now? because when i played it, no matter what level you where every zombie in the game was either the same, slightly lower, or slightly higher level. so it defeated the purpose of "leveling".

I think it's on by default (recommended) although I'm assuming the ability to turn that off is a new option.

I would turn it off. It was really annoying because you would go back to beginner zones and all the zombies would still be mad strong. the fun in RPG for me is returning to previous areas and being mad powerful.

it also made the new game + kinda broken because the enemies were still scaled to your level and took the same amount of melee hits to kill, your weapons degraded at the same rate... but the quests didn't scale and you got very little money. so you were constantly bleeding money from having to repair your weapons and the quests werent giving you enough to recoup the loss

Played for about 2 hours with a friend. Was kinda boring honestly. Maybe if I played it before Skyrim.
