It is really difficult. Obscure puzzles and traps everywhere. I never finished the original version.

Appropriate thread?

http://www.neowin.net/news/did-microsoft-execs-overrule-windows-team-to-put-start-menu-back-in-windows-81

Paul Thurrott posted word on WinSuperSite.com, via unnamed sources, that the Windows team had objections to restoring the Start button for the first major update to Windows 8. However, it appears that Microsoft's upper management made an executive decision and overruled the Windows team, telling them the Start button is back in the Windows 8.1 desktop UI. The article does not give any specifics on which members of the Microsoft executive team pulled the trigger to put the Start button back in Windows 8.1.

Before this week, there's been no indications that Microsoft was going to change its mind on the Start button issue. Indeed, the two leaks of early Windows 8.1 development builds, including one that was posted on the Internet earlier this week, showed no evidence in its code of a Start button revival.

Anyway this game is fucking addictive, absolutely love it. Deliberately trying to avoid reading about how the mechanics work so I can discover them for myself.

Don't Starve really is cool. Don't let the terraria/minecraft genre lumping confuse you-the time constraints and increasing danger as time progresses really make this game feel more like a roguelike than those 'shit crayons' games.

I think the game needs additional stresses to push the the player harder over the long term (the addition of winter, for example, is great), but as is the game is well worth the asking price.

I've been waiting around for Dyad to show up on PC since its release, and now it's finally here. I got to play some before going to work and it's exactly what I expected after seeing gameplay videos i.e. super-fucking-rad. I'm very happy I don't have to buy a PS3 to play it :)

Those who aren't familiar with it, the best thing I can compare it to is a rail shooter like Rez, but with added gimmicks that will likely overload your senses.

abuse the shit out of project,if they make a plant project make plant's,and then abuse those plant so that you get the max out of symbiosis, try to pick ambassador as late as possible and to get aspect which help with project (so if they make a project that like animal pick animal project) try to pick a swamp ambassador for the ocean giant so you get herd and a forest ambassador for the wood giant so you get fruit as those aspect are nice oh and spam aspect even when you don't need to evolve, the bonus are neat

the awesome 2D art makes me interested in Night of the Rabbit, but I'm getting the consensus that Daedalic hasn't yet made a game as good as their visuals are.

That's certainly the case with A New Beginning, which I'm going through this last week, which is solid, if not spectacular.

Cannot wait

the full version is out,i played it for quite a while

it's a pretty cool and original game but it's not much of a stealth game as more of a puzzle one, most of the level's involve your ability to rewire the circuitry of the level so that you can get to your objective, one thing that the demo doesn't show is that circuit comes in different color and you can only link circuit of the same color... you also need to find special haywire point before you can link circuit of colors other than red

so for example in one level the easiest way to enter is by breaking a window trough the roof,of course this alert every guard near but you can solve this by rewiring the doors so that they stay locked when the guard tries to open them... another level has a bunch of motion sensor that trigger when a guard move near them and you have to rewire them in a chain like fashion to gain access to the entrance (guard 1 trigger the red sensor which open the red door thus letting guard 2 trigger the blue sensor which open the blue door thus letting guard 3 trigger the yellow sensor which open the entrance)

the way you can control the level's is really neat, when you turn off lights, guard go search for the closest light switch and push them,so you can turn off a light and then rewire the light button so that it does something else like calling an elevator so that the *DING* distract a guard that's facing the wrong way, later in the game you get the ability to link button to the guard guns so it's totaly possible to simply kill a guard by causing a rube goldberg like reaction

you get ranked on each level for how many people you kill (or don't kill) how many people see you,how much sound you have done and optional laptop you find, depending on the level your client request you something specific and your actual rank depends on how you score that particular category (for example in one level your client might not want anybody hurt so you have to leave everybody alive but in others you can go crazy and murder everybody)

you also (apparently) have some control over the plot and can tell certain characters the truth or not,the dialogue is all skippable so i'm not really sure it makes any difference

if there is one weak point in the game is that the level feel all the samey, sure you get new gimmick (quite early the game introduce armored guards you can't pounce on for example) and once in a while the game throws you a more gimmicky level (like the chain reaction one described above) but most of the time you are just rewiring thing and pushing button to reach your objective

I really enjoyed it, for $9 it's fantastic and something different. As you say it's definitely more of a puzzle game but I do like that there's no best solution on how to complete these levels, some of the best fun I had was experimenting with things that didn't work.

Hopefully Banished doesn't turn out to be as boring as the Anno series. I played the original way back when and they have not fundamentally changed since then. Banisheds higher focus on micro-managment looks promising.

The game looks alright. Graphically it looks kinda drab though, and I expect the game to be as clunky as previous efforts from the developer. On the other hand, I do like world/city building, but this one doesn't seem to have the same sense of scale :(
Previous efforts? I thought this was his first project since leaving the industry. That's what he says on his site, anyway. http://www.shiningrocksoftware.com/

Dat nauseating bloom :tocry could be fun though.

The current Anno devs are two big studios (50+ employees each, I think), both owned by Ubisoft, no way they would make a rinky-dink video like this. Or change the direction of the series as drastically. :lol
I really hope this doesn't turn out like Anno where you might as well stop playing if you finish one big scenario/map that features every system, because every other session is going to play out pretty much the same way. I played one large economically focused map in 1404 (because combat is unbelievably tedious, holy shit) and uninstalled the game right after.

The Anno series is great and I'm expecting Banished to be fantastic too. Unlike most other resource management sims it seems like it's actually challenging and it's easy to reach a fail state. Anno and Settlers are mostly limited by how much land is available for new buildings. Having to plan several years ahead just to make plum ale is weirdly captivating.
