best game of the generation, hands down
What the fuck jojo, you're smarter than this
there are very few excellent games for this generation to be fair, I'd rate any PSX Final Fantasy higher than it
but this is a game that I enjoyed a lot and consistently so without ever getting bored or frustrated, the combat system ressembling that of an MMORPG is addictive, the plot is refreshingly mature and laid-back, the character art is beautiful, all the locales are gorgeous, the music even without all the usual catchy Uematsu melodies is also pretty damn sweet and you don't get tired of listening to the same tunes for hours on end
and it's incredibly well-written and voiced, every character is a joy to read and to listen to... it's very rare that we'll take voice acting seriously, but they hired some really good people
at some point the evil doctor Cid has a maniacal laughter and it's really convincing and mean, unlike most everything I heard in any game since some PC CD-ROM adventure games in the mid-nineties... such touches IMO elevate FF12 above the norm
but hey many people like you will hate the direction the series has taken and would prefer to see FF trademarks such as neverending strings of tragedy, more emotional characters, traditional turn-based battles... that's to be expected and there's nothing wrong with that
