This game is tight. If you're in the market for a slow paced tactical fps with intuitive controls that isn't bogged down too much in simulation ala Arma, I'd recommend it.
A lot of the bad press for this game comes from stuck-up reviewers hating on the banter of your commander in the game. The banter is actually quite good - it contains a lot of pop culture references, helping create a sense of time and immersion. And it's voiced by Al Matthews of Aliens fame. I mean, if anyone's gonna incessantly bark out demeaning orders at you true marine style, then there's no one better than f'in Sgt. Apone! Seriously, forget the hate that the pretentious, uptight reviewers give it, the banter is pretty great, actually. Like an example exchange:
Soldier: Sure is a damn shame, though. This is some awesome country to lay eyes on. Like a beautiful alien world or something...
Apone: Marine, this ain't Pandora and you ain't some blue-tailed cat lookin' mutherfucker. So keep your eyes on your zones...
If you play through the campaign cooperatively, this would be an amazing experience. Because of the open terrain nature of the levels, the AI can't really make contextual, informed decisions on when to use grenades or explosives, or basically playing up to the strengths of their classes. This is why I take on the role of the more specialized classes like Sniper and Explosives myself and leave gunners and rifleman to the AI.
Only up to the third mission so far, but I'm liking it more and more as I progress. It's a slow starter for sure, tho. But if your sick of fast paced fpses these days like I am then I heartily recommend it.
