Just got back from getting my copy. The manager said they had a turnout of around 300 for the midnight launch. Saw a stack of 40 hardened additions. They took up a lot of space.
Can't take the afternoon off though.  :'(

I tried to get a hardened edition so bad because its actually a pretty good value. Couldn't swing it though.

So I bought elite separately.  :-[

You disappoint me.

sure. Xbox live is dying today because of MW 3 anyway. Probably will be for a few days. I can't connect to the party of people I normally play with. Lots of other weirdness.

Played for a bit. Dabbled in each mode although I didn't play enough to say anything really insightful.

Coming from Black Ops though the speed in this game on the MP is overwhelming. I had forgotten how fast MW 2 was. It's like Black Ops on turbo.

I have to say I was impressed by the boat escape. One thing you can always count on from the Call of Duty series is excellent sound effects. Everything sounds great.

I'm digging Spec Ops mode.

Beat the campaign on hardened. Enjoyable although I think I preferred the one in MW 2. Some nice set pieces though. Especially in Act 2. Had a nice flow to it. Had no problem with the length. Was around the same length as the prior game for me.

On to Spec Ops and the mp.

also the shadows on the 360 version look like they came from a PSX game for real

I've played a few hours into the multi now so I can comment on it better. It's a slightly more balanced version of MW 2. If that appeals to you, you will like it and if that doesn't, you won't. As expected I kind of prefer Black Ops. Not because I think MW 3 is bad but because I just prefer the balance changes in Black Ops. I miss wager matches which were a nice casual diversion. I also prefer the relative higher health. The guns in MW 3 do more damage so you die a lot faster in it. I also miss small things like the combat record and being able to go into theater mode with a party. I do like it. And I'll play it. But probably not as much as Black Ops.

I like Spec Ops as I thought I would and the new survival mode thingy is fun.

Elite still does't work for me. Neither the console app nor the website. Activision claims its so popular that's the reason it isn't working but I don't like that BS excuse from EA when their servers don't work and I don't like it here. While BF 3 was sketchy server wise at first, at least Battlelog actually worked. Elite hasn't since launch.

Played more this evening. It's starting to grow on me more. The support package really adds a lot to the game. You can help your team and you don't have to be a slaying beast to do it and you don't overly feel the need to camp it out when you're running that to keep your streak alive.

And getting rewarded for doing objective and other helpful support actions in objective modes is long overdue and welcome.

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Nov. 11, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Shattering its own day-one sales records, Activision Publishing, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision Blizzard (Nasdaq: ATVI), announced that its highly-anticipated Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 3 has become the biggest entertainment launch ever with an estimated sell-through of more than $400 million and more than 6.5 million units in North America and the United Kingdom alone in the first 24 hours of its release, according to Charttrack and retail customer sell-through information.

This marks the third consecutive year that the Call of Duty franchise has set day one launch records across all forms of entertainment, something no other entertainment franchise in any medium has ever accomplished. Last year, in North America and the United Kingdom, Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops™ had estimated day-one sell-through of $360 million and in 2009, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, set day-one records with estimated sell through of $310 million, according to Charttrack and retail customer sell-through information.

On November 8, 2011, millions of fans attended more than 13,000 midnight openings at retail stores around worldwide. According to Microsoft, after just two days, the number of gamers playing simultaneously on Xbox® Live® set a new peak concurrency record.

“We believe the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is the biggest entertainment launch of all time in any medium, and we achieved this record with sales from only two territories,” said Bobby Kotick, CEO, Activision Blizzard, Inc. “Other than Call of Duty, there has never been another entertainment franchise that has set opening day records three years in a row. Life-to-date sales for the Call of Duty franchise exceed worldwide theatrical box office for “Star Wars” and “Lord of the Rings,” two of the most successful entertainment franchises of all time.”

Eric Hirshberg, CEO, Activision Publishing added, “Call of Duty is more than a game. It’s become a major part of the pop cultural landscape. It is a game that core enthusiasts love, but that also consistently draws new people into the medium. It is the most intense, adrenaline pumping entertainment experience anywhere. I would like to thank our incredible teams at Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games for making a brilliant game. But most of all, I would like to thank our millions of passionate fans worldwide. We made this game for you.”

Separately, Activision announced this morning that in support and gratitude for the efforts of American servicemen and women, this Veterans Day it donated $3 million to the Call of Duty Endowment, a non-profit, public benefit corporation that seeks to provide job placement and training for veterans. This latest donation will be added to the $2 million that Activision has already donated to the Endowment, which has provided more than $1.5 million in grants and scholarships to veterans’ organizations across the country since it was conceived by Bobby Kotick in November of 2009.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is rated “M” (Mature) by the ESRB for Blood and Gore, Drug Reference, Intense Violence and Strong Language and is available now for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, and Windows® PC. Well, on the one hand, the maps are a lot less interesting for "snipers," but on the other hand... ALL maps are hive-like CQB maps. It's weird, though, since just about every change and addition has felt spot on. Kill Confirmed kicks ass, Support strike packages also kick ass, and keeps the game moving, and there is very little air clutter. But the maps, man.

Its been a good few years since I played CoD multi, but it feels like instead of dying after 1.5ish seconds of fire, I'm going down in .5 seconds.  Its very hard to react unless I'm checking my 6, 3, and 9 CONSTANTLY.  Almost never make it to cover in time  Air support got super nerfed- especially the OG Chopper (maybe a good thing).  Noobish question, but would the trophy system do anything about stingers or the anti-air turret thingies?  Haven't had a chance to use it yet.

They upped the damage of all the base weapons to compensate for no stopping power perk so you do indeed die faster than you did before relatively speaking. All the maps encourage a lot of flanking so people often pop up behind you. (Some bad spawning currently doesn't help that situation). It definitely takes a bit to get use to especially for me coming from Black Ops. Air Support is definitely weaker fortunately. The trophy system protects you from grenades and even stuff like a direct predator missile strike although it has a fairly small range so you kinda have to camp out near it or use it to hold down a position.

I decided to just do a quick and dirty specialist setup for the first time ever and went 41-2 on Hardhat.  I was using a p-something smg with silencer+rapid fire.  I wanna say I had scavenger pro/hardline pro (omg I underrated this one)/deadsilence.  My perkstreak was something like assassin pro/sleight of hand pro/extreme conditioning.

Needless to say I got my MOAB.  So yeah, specialist-great, support-integral.   I'm still struggling to get ANYTHING done with the Assault strike package due to how powerful anti-air measures are.  The most valuable exclusive things it has are the airstrike and... sentries?  I don't have good luck with sentries but I'm willing to blame that on neglectful parenting.

edit:  I guess what I mean is running Assault is HARD, its difficult to maintain momentum.

Assault can be difficult to string together unless you camp it up. And the EMP on the support side is honestly maybe the most important kill streak in the game since it can shut down anything. I've played teams that run it and they can really shut down the other side if multiple people are getting it in longish objective games. They actually really did a good job imo with the kill streak stuff and adding the support package was probably the smartest thing they've done since COD 4.

Which makes Assassin Pro all the deadlier. :rock

And speaking of which, adapting to the dizzy map layout, I think I found a recipe for moderate success. Silenced P90 + Range, Extreme Conditioning Pro, Assassin Pro and Steady Aim Pro. At least I'm regularly going 2.0 with that.

And yeah, support strike package is brilliant. As is much with the game. Everything feels generally balanced, though I'm getting real tired of the Akimbo FMG shit.

For the record, I suck at this game.  Decided to try the p90 with steady aim and anyone I looked at was dead for the most part.  ARs only have an advantage from distances that hardly ever happen with the current map design.  Its not even a bad choice for ranged ads shooting.  I'm still going with it being a giant band-aid.

It's a good gun, nothing more, nothing less. I used Range proficiency for a while, but now I'm going with silencer and thermal. I don't do ranged combat anyway, but thermal is good for target acquisition.

I picked up some dude's MP7 the other day, and that was pretty damned sweet. Shame I'm still 8 levels away from it. :(

I'm tempted to double dip on console, just so that I can get to try out some decent killstreaks, because it just isn't happening on PC. Should probably be PS3, then; if MW and MW2 are anything to go by, PS3 players are absolute push-overs.

Battlefield 3 is Battlefield, no surprises. Best looking game around (on PC, at least). Plays like a dream when teamed up with friends, and a nightmare when playing with randoms. Typical Battlefield.

MW shifts heavily between games, and I'm surprisingly happy with MW3. Feels like MW2 without the air clutter and more ridiculous perks. If they would just release more maps, all would be golden.
