Just beat the 3rd dungeon, pretty cool so far now that I'm fully acquainted with the controls. Even though occasionally I get fucked over with bad bowling controls. My brother is just slightly ahead of me in the game and he says this is where the game goes from "OMG amazing" to shit...

Nah, I'm on my way to the 5th dungeon and imo the game has only gotten better since the 3rd dungeon.  Definitely more interesting stuff.

I think I must be enjoying this game because I forgot to exercise my democratic right and vote in the national election. :-[
Oh well, the local candidate I would have voted for won and there was nothing I could have done to prevent National cutting the country's throat.

Any particular ones?

And I don't mind the silent realm stuff.  It's something that I dread doing, but they're quick yet challenging so each time I finish them I'm like "okay that was actually kinda cool."

That's my point, they're cool and all but I'm all for not having them in the game at all cause I feel like the obstruct the flow of the game, if you will. I haven't gotten hit while doing it yet so I guess I'm good at it, but knowing myself if I did die and have to start over I'd be choking puppies.

Nah, I'm on my way to the 5th dungeon and imo the game has only gotten better since the 3rd dungeon.  Definitely more interesting stuff.

Everything after dungeon 3 to the lead up to 6 has been the best parts of the game so far.

I don't know...I enjoy these far more than the tears of light sections in TP, mainly because they're succinct and seem to beef up the respective areas even moreso than they already are.  It requires you to be familiar with the lay of the land, and I like that much more than "look at map, travel to area, beat bugs."  And they're challenging only in a "hmm, how can I get there?" kind of way.  The Eldin trial infuriated me (in a good way) because I got every single tear and then got fucked by a guardian about twenty steps before the safety ring.  I rage quitted and came back an hour later.

As for the second half of the game, yeah, As soon as you hit dungeon 4, the game goes from fun to amazing.  I still think the first half is leagues better than TP, also.

The only thing that bothers me about the lead up to the end-game portions is the Hero's Song collection.  It's not as bad as the Triforce hunt, but its a random mish-mash of second-hand ideas that were thrown into the game.  Mainly the Faron region collection.  Blugh.  The Eldin Volcano one was pretty cool though.  And I did actually enjoy the Lanayru cart sequence.

last battle was fucking awesome.  pretty tough AND an amazing atmosphere as well.

game is fucking amazing.  Absolutely a 9.5/10 from me, the best Zelda since Majora's.  So:

Finished Dungeon #5.  The dungeon was ok; one of the weaker ones imo; was too straightforward and not super interesting to explore.  Just a lot of backtracking.  I thought the pre-dungeon stuff was better.

The boss though.  FUCK HIM.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
This was another boss made for a game with a different control set.  So many goddamn problems.  The skyward strike is fine for puzzles, but when you need to do it quickly and half the time the centering on the sword gets fucked up and you can't get him to raise it and he keeps raising his shield ARGHGHGH.  Then the goddamn bow, which is a lot of fun to use, but when IT RE-CENTERS IT EVERY TIME YOU BRING IT UP you can get seriously fucked...a lot!!!  And then I couldn't even figure out wtf to do on the tentacle biter part at the last half.  Were you just supposed to slash them nonstop?  Because when I did it still wouldn't be fast enough and I'd slash a few then get hit and knocked off the ship.  If I tried to block it'd block then I'd get hit and knocked off the ship.  I'm guessing there was a trick to that part.  Beat the boss with a half a heart left and a lot of frustration.  This boss and boss #1/2 have been screwy because of how bad the motion controls are.  The boss fights are my least favorite part of this game; if I played the same fights on a normal controller I'd like them a whooole lot more.

So I think my only real complaint with the game is the fact that the puzzles are pretty much spelled out for you (except, ironically in a few spots in the first dungeon)... part of the challenge of the earlier Zelda games was entering a dungeon room and then figuring out what the puzzle was, before you even start doing stuff.

You are supposed to slash the tentacles bebpo, they stop. It's like the Bamboo Pole mini-game. Slash slash slash.

And I rather liked that boss. Certainly better than the abysmal joke that was the bomb boss.

I dunno, that's what I was doing and I'd slash a ton of them and then eventually get hit.  Guess I wasn't slashing FAST enough because the motion controls weren't detecting half my slashes.

I feel like half the time I do anything with the motion controls it doesn't register correctly.  Maybe I am too animated and swinging things around too much and need to be calm like that guy in the video.  I feel like motion controls work for puzzles, but they fail for boss fights where you need to do them nonstop and fast or take damage.  I'm really enjoying everything about the game...except the boss fights where I'm usually just pissed off and cursing.

I thought Dungeon #4 was a lot better in both design and the boss.

Looking forward to the final 10 hours of the game.  I can't imagine how it could be any worse than the re-use in the game already and I've enjoyed all that.

worse than that it's not but the amount of new stuff you get to see it's going to be veeeeeery small, after dungeon 5 it's when the game goes into full padding mode

you're supposed to use the skyward strike on the tentacles.  I dislike that boss because of how long it takes, but just charge your skyward strike as you run around like a dolt, then let off a horizontal slash.  Most times you can take out two tentacles at a time.

Well, I didn't want to say this until I beat it but I doubt anything in the last 2 dungeons will change my stance:

My overall opinion is that Wind Waker, Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword make up the trifecta of modern Zelda.  Each has its strengths, each has its weakness and all 3 have plenty of both.  Every game, instead of just learning from the last and doing the same thing while fixing problems of previous titles, Nintendo decides to go in a 90 degree angle and just throws everything out the window and tries a whole completely new direction and each time they come with their benefits and failings.

At the end of the day, I think those 3 are all about the same quality and at their core are all great Zelda adventures that do different things; but you gotta put up with a lot of junk in all of them.

That being said I'd rather Nintendo kept trying new ideas and partly failing than do the same stale tired sequels they do with some of their other franchises.  It's the creative Nintendo that keeps the studio being worthwhile.

I don't see myself replaying most games longer than 5-10 hours.  Long games always have a bunch of downtime to offset the highs.

There are codes out there to disable ayanami rei's dumbshit and some of the other dumbness like reintroducing items, so I'll look into those and replay it for sure.  I mean, I have to do a hero run eventually.  Though it shouldn't be that difficult since enemies just do double damage, and I did the boss rush without getting hit once; game is pretty easy.

In a week or two I'm gonna replay WW and TP (superior Wii version).  I might look into Dolphin stuff.

nicca please.  You can beat OoT in like 8 hours, MM in about the same time.  I can go through most of the series' big titles (other than the DS games) in a month.

Zelda games only started getting long with Twilight Princess

100% OoT is like ~20 hours.  MM is like 10 to 15 hours; most of the time is collecting masks.  Wind Waker is under 20 hours, and the last few hours are the triforce fetch quest.  Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword are both 40+ hours to get 100%.  The 2D games are considerably shorter.

The only Zelda games I wont replay are the DS games because they're so fucking boring.  If Spirit Tracks let me only play the dungeons and skip the flute shit I'd play, but never again with the trains.

I'm just shy of 20 hours now after Dungeon #5.  I find it hard to believe it's going to be longer than a 30 hour game if I'm not doing sidestuff (there's sidestuff to do in this game?).

Beat the first 5 dungeons... dungeons 3 and 4 were really cool... but 1, 2 and 5 were definitely uninspired. That being said I still really like this game, much more than I thought I would. But TP is still the best 3D Zelda unless the rest of the game starts randomly flashing Eastern European porn at me while I play.

Hey Link/Mario!  I'm just gonna sit here and blab because I'm a Patronizing Douchebag.  While you're sitting there Jamming The A Button For No Reason Except Bored Frustration, I'm just gonna say a bunch of shit that some writers thought was Funny and some programmers thought was absolutely necessary for every player to Read.  You must get the Small Key/Star Bit to open the Door. I love doors! They open and close so magically! Isn't that quirky lol? Almost as quirky as Insert distinguished mentally-challenged Non-Sequitur HereReading can only be done if you have Eyes and, in this game, the Reading Comprehension Skills of a 3rd grader.  But you can't skip the text, so everybody must read it!  Isn't that Wonderful?  No player left behind!

yeah, that was just as bad.  even seeing her win quotes in UMVC3 gives me nerd rage.   it's "little" shit like this that honestly keeps me from beating these games (3D zeldas and okami.)  too many breaks in gameplay.   Meanwhile, dark souls has very little dialogue and I enjoy it when it happens.

i think the wii version sped up the text because the port was from white people.  they even outright removed the credit text!

well, this bombed super hard in japan.

I dunno, it sold 1/3 of what Modern Warfare 3 did, so if you adjust for Western audiences that's like 2.2 million!

Console Zelda, like Console Mario, is far less popular over there these days.  Not a surprise OoT remake outsold it 4x1.

Wait, I just went to gaf and it says 194,000 sold in the first weekend.

So basically after Nintendo Legs it'll sell about 600k, aka the same as every Zelda in Japan.  Sounds normal?
