Lmao @ oblivion

My wife heard me starting the game, and thought the stupid metal person was from portal. When she came into the room she said "I thought you were playing portal. This game looks like its ten years old"

Ok, now that I finished my "other" long ass rpg I was playing with Trails in the Sky, I guess I will sit down this week and march on through the rest of SS so I can move on to FFXIII-2 or something next week.  I hope the padding doesn't drive me insane.

Thursday.

If I finish Zelda, I won't be in the middle of any long games so I might actually play it when it comes out.  Dunno.

Finished the 6th dungeon.  Dungeon itself was alright.  Enjoyable but nothing memorable.  The boss was another motion control piece of shit.  I hate every boss in this game.  I actually don't mind the filler and padding that much.  When I'm playing SS, I enjoy everything going on except every time I get to a boss fight I want to throw my controller through the tv and fly to nintendo and murder the entire staff of the game so that they never make games again.  I just find all the battles super frustrating and extremely hard in a "hard because the controls SUCK and not because it's actually that challenging boss design" way.

I swear my motion+ is busted.  Whenever I'm in the middle of a fight where I need to swing a lot, at several times without fail the motion+ ALWAYS loses track of the controller and it stops following my arm movements and no matter where I move my arm link just holds the sword straight and runs around like an idiot.

Imprisoned boss #2 was annoying since you have to use the gusts to get above or below him to get behind him after you knock him down but then YOU CAN'T SEE HIM so you just need to try to guess where he is.  And all the electricity from his feet and fast moving makes fighting him when he's not stunned a total pain and a half.  Ugh, not looking forward to the 3rd time.

At the tadtone quest now.  ~23 hours.  Hopefully I'll finish this by 30 hours and not break my wii from raging too hard at the final bosses and the shitty motion controls making me die on them.

If this game had standard controller controls, even with the padding I'd still say it's an 8-8.5ish Zelda.  But when the motion controls piss me off it feels like an 8/10 game with 3/10 controls for a 5/10 total.

Also, I'm never playing another waggle game on Wii.  Zelda has soured me on this console for good outside of standard analog controlling games.

i did say that waggle is good because it's different but the problem is skyward sword barely makes any use out of it,it's really more of a problem of skyward sword not being a good waggle game rather than waggle being bad

and man bebpo is going to have a field day with the final fights, did i mention the only way to deal damage at first is by stabbing? :teehee

I think that you are holding the controls wrong Bebpo.  You are supposed to hold it like perpedicular to the tv like (tv-> I    - <-controller), i was always aiming it up and trying to swing right and it always seems ot go on a diagonal.  My brother has no problems with it, completely easy for him.  I just cant help holding the controller at an angle.

So far I'm enjoying it. Granted I just got to the first dungeon. I really don't feel that it's too bad considering some of the other shit I played on the Wii.

There's parts of the design and concept I like better than Twilight Princess. Orchestrated music really adds to the game. Now the game needs voice acting.

And HD of course.

But so far, yeah, probably the best MotionPlus experience I could have expected.

I'm in Lanayru Desert, really liking it. It's a very streamlined Zelda so far, the opening tutorial section in Skyloft was a little boring but it's the best 3D Zelda beginning since Majora's Mask. I never played past the first 3 hours of TP, but everyone saying it's better than SS is making me want to try again...

Finished Tadtones and Imprisoned #3.  Saw like 3 game overs tonight between the two since I'm always running around on like 6 hearts or less and there's fucking stupid shit involved in every task at this point.  Thankfully it keeps the tadtones you've collected if you game over during it.  If I lost 40 mins of tadtone collecting, that would have been the end of me ever playing this game.  I didn't mind the collecting at first, but the swimming controls ARE AWFUL and it just goes on and on.  Fucking hated it by the end.

In the STEALTH FIRE place now.  Will do it next time and then whatever dumb task is in the desert so that I can head to the final dungeon.  I'm hearing from several people that I probably won't be able to beat the final 2 bosses because they are long as shit, with multiple forms, and it's all sword fight and they're actually hard.  Will try to at least get to them and then at worst youtube the ending.

I hate motion controls.  I can't remember ever getting a game over in a zelda game since like Zelda 2 before this.  But I've seen at least a dozen so far in here and I'm always running around with no life and never buy potions.

I think you're just spazzing out way too much during boss fights bebpo.  I had the same problems at first but once I calmed down and got all methodical and shit everything was smooth as butter.  I maybe had my sword act funky 2 times in the whole game and that is fixed by pointing at the sensor bar for all of one second.  Tadtones took like 15 minutes tops, not sure how much one has to suck to make it 40 min with game overs.  Remember to spin to suck up groups and let go of A for on the spot swimming.

Aaaaand I hit the point where the game wants me to redo 20 mins of boring gameplay because I died and the checkpointing is shit.  That wraps it up for this game.  Youtubing the rest of it now.  GJ Nintendo on making a shit playing game and the 2nd Zelda in a row I don't finish (didn't even bother youtubing Spirit Tracks, that game was so bad I couldn't care what happened).

I was in Lanyru, went through entire mine cart follow section.  Last door at the end has 2 of those beam pillars with 1 having the switch behind him.  I'm running around trying to aim with the arrow to shoot one in the face while the other keeps zapping me for 2-3 hearts per zap.  Get killed, and it starts me back in the desert and tells me to do the entire mine cart ride again with all the boring claw shot and climbing and fighting everything along the way.  No reason why the game couldn't have checkpointed at each door you opened for the cart.  Usual shit Nintendo game design.

What a waste of 25 hours.  Could've played a much better game in that time.

I dunno, it mean it really says something when I've given up on 2 Zelda games in a row despite both being a fan of the franchise and having OCD about finishing every game I start.  I honestly can't think of any other games in the last 2-3 years that I gave up on outside of Spirit Tracks and now Skyward Sword.  It's not that these two games are harder than the other 30-50 games I play a year or anything, they're just more annoying and chore-like than almost any other game in the industry.  Zelda is fun!  But somehow they best they can to turn it into feeling like work.  Slow, tedious, sometimes painful.  I really think the current team is destroying the franchise worse than the FF team :\

On the plus side, watching the game on youtube in 480p quality while being able to seek and skip through all the traveling and errand shit actually makes it more enjoyable!

Bebpo did you try what i recommended?  Are you holding the wiimote plus flat to the tv?

That's how I've been holding it the whole time.

Finished watching the rest of the game.  Game goes on and on.

The final boss fight looked pretty nice and seemed like a good old fashioned sword fight.  Final dungeon seemed kind of fun besides just being MORE RE-USE EVERYTHING.

I don't like how the story was pretty much terrible in this one.  There are tons of cutscenes and TONS of Fi or BZZT npc talking, yet there's so little actual plot in the game.  There are almost no characters besides Link/Groo and the villians are a joke.  Ghiram is worse than Tingle and completely pointless, and
spoiler (click to show/hide)
demise is a turd x 3 fights and then, Ganon precursor yawn
[close]
The antagonists have zero character development and the plot has like nothing going on to it besides UH, KEEP REVISITING THESE THREE PLACES BECAUSE YOU ARE THE HERO AND THERE IS A BLACK TURD SEALED AND WE GOTTA KEEP HIM DOWN.  Compared to stuff like Wind Waker with lively characters and an developed antagonist or even TP, it's like they didn't even bother putting any effort.  Which bugs me since
spoiler (click to show/hide)
they decided to make the game the ZELDA ORIGIN STORY
[close]

Also the game just does not feel like an epic adventure at all because instead of traveling around saving the world of the sky and the ground, you kept going to a forest, a volcano, and an empty desert.  Most boring world ever; not even worth saving.  And what was the point of even making a sky world since the game does nothing with it?  The Sky Temple in TP has more "woah, making using of flying and the sky" than the entire game of SS.  I thought there'd be flying bird battles and pirates in the sky and all kinds of SKY stuff, but nope, just a big empty nothing to fly between 3 pillars of light and a boring town.

The dungeons are solid for sure, and dungeon 4 is spectacular.  But there's not that many of them, and there is SO MUCH FILLER and the game is 15 hours too long and there is no plot motivation to keep progressing or gameplay motivation because you're just going to revist the same location in DARK version of SMOKE version of FLOOD version.  ugh ugh ugh.  And Fi never shuts up.  Even in the ending she never shuts up.  Worst Zelda helper yet.

I think there were good ideas in this somewhere and some good design mixed with the bad.  But this really felt like the FF13 of the Zelda series.  That the team struggled a lot and had no idea wtf they were doing for years.  I'm going to be VERY weary of evening playing the next Zelda at this point.  But I really do hope they can get their stuff together because a good Zelda is a great great game.

They should have the Mario teams make Zelda since Mario seems to be able to keep things fun and good quality.

Bepu doesn't Shiggy keep an eye on the Zelda team upending teat tables and the like? If so and the fact that he inexplicably hates stories in games that could be your answer as to why their barely is one. Maybe once the old man croaks/fucks off to make ipad games or whatever it is he really wants to do they can make a proper Zelda origin game. (Hey Ocarina was supposeld THE FIRST ZELDA EVAR at the time and then they went and made this one be so it's not like it's unprecedented.) And keep Retardo studios the hell away from Zelda. He really nails the point about how the game has NO STORY and NO VILLAIN and is entirely about wacking a mole on the head while doing trial after trial after trial.  The plot structure is freaking terrible this time around.

Also I sort of maybe agree with him about Phantom Hourglass being better.  While PH was not great, at least I finished that game.  Something I was unable to do with Spirit Tracks and SS.  Since it appears Yahtzee didn't even play ST, I can see how he'd think SS is the worst zelda he's played.

Additionally, I gotta say I think Yahtzee is the best reviewer in the game media.  Even if I like a game, I tend to agree with all his points and usually share the same opinion as him on most games.  Even without the comedy aspect, his reviews are really good.

I wonder if Iwata writes for Edge under an alias.

Oh hey they've integrated the god awful 'find the key pieces to get into the dungeon' mechanic that was horrible in Metroid Prime 2. Douseing for where the pieces are is really not very helpful. Why can't I just get their locations marked on my map? So many of their 'new' ideas here are so very terrible.

I picked this up again for a bit over the Christmas break thinking maybe I was being hard on it because of unrealistically elevated expectations or something.  Nope; game is terrible.  I'm done.

THE ULTIMATE ZELDA

you're rich, nintendo.  you don't have to release subpar entries into your series; spend some extra time and ahh whatever fuck you nintendo, youre just an empty shell now

Still haven't played it. I should be getting it this weekend if stuff goes well though.

I have to thank you guys though, reviews hyped me up WAY too high for TP and it took a second playthrough before I finally started loving it. With SS I'm expecting it to be Ninjabread Man levels so I'll probably end up loving it right off the bat.

Hype is a hell of a drug.

And having spent a crazy amount of time getting the stupid key pieces for the Volcano Temple I clear the thing in like an hour. :lol Why not just make actual dungeons instead of lots of inane padding? For all my complaints I am digging this, it's a fucking console Zelda. It's sadly a last gen console, but still! :zelda

Got my $8 WiiMote Plus from the Best Buy Flingsmash deal. Totally not going to read all 35 pages, bounced around a bit, but will trust the Bore, someone confirm/deny this has like a 40 hour tutorial to start.
