It's still pretty cool in theory that you can see someone down the street from you is playing Blazblu, send them a msg, and then play a game together and add them to your friends list and then start talking about how you live 3 mins away and you should meet up and stuff.  Although that's probably how people disappear.  Still, in theory it's pretty neat.

Tried Rayman and Lumines demos.

Rayman looks really really really really good on this screen.  I mean it looks good on my 1080p Plasma, but I think it looks even nicer on a smaller screen like this.  Tempted to double dip since I haven't played it yet.  But will hold off until it price drops significantly or I get on a plane and really want to play Rayman.

Lumines was pretty awesome.  More of the same for sure (it seemed WAY faster than what I remember Lumines 1 being) but the demo songs and skins were awesome.  Think I will order this.

Hot Shots Golf - great gameplay as always, but Clap Handz sucks at graphics as always.  They need to hire some decent programmers!  Game would look so nice with a clean IQ one of these games...

well, if anyone else runs into this - Hard reset by holding down the power button for 20 secs, then system restore worked. Weirdly Lumines was setting on my home screen, fully installed, when I got done restoring.

This is certainly possible - i just got this card yesterday for the purpose of setting up a US account and haven't done anything else on it. Or it could have just been trying to do too many things at once - i had one other game dl'ing at the time.

Dungeon Hunter: Alliance is a launch title for the PlayStation Vita, but PS3 fans may remember the name. That's because it's currently available via the PSN for $12.99. Mac users may have spotted the game on iTunes, where it costs $0.99 right now.

On Vita? It costs $39.99.

Dungeon Hunter games aren't worth more then 5 bucks, I got em for 99 cents. Not worth more.

Can't blame Sony though, it's Gameloft BUT this still contributes to Vita being DOA.

Very nice commercials in Europe though, make me think of PS2 and PS1 glorydays.

Probably the same way PSP digital games did.  Slowly, but eventually they almost all got down to $20, $15 or $10.

If it's mainly PS3/X360 ports and 3DS multiplatform games with a little better graphics (like 999-2)...yeah, that's not too bad.

I think that's realistic, though many seem to assume the port quality will drop like stone if Vita doesn't sell. I have no idea how easy or expensive the typical PS3/360-level port will be of course.

I really haven't much interest in groundbreaking new games that use the rear touch panel or the back camera etc....would be totally happy with this if it just fulfills the promise of the PSP really.

supposedly Rayman has an online ghost mode to race against friends added to make up for lacking multiplayer.  I kinda wish I didn't buy it on PS3, either for the PC or Vita versions.  I'll probably double dip eventually.

If it's mainly PS3/X360 ports and 3DS multiplatform games with a little better graphics (like 999-2)...yeah, that's not too bad.

I'd be interested in more Vita ports of 3DS games (and the other way around).  The devices seem more comparable than the PSP and DS were.  Even if the games were up ported to the Vita it would be nice.  RE Revelations with a higher resolution, smoothed out frame rate (3DS game is stable most of the time but can crash), and improvements of that sort.  Likewise take the (few) original Vita games and put them on the 3DS.  I'm sure Ys 4 could be assed down a bit to work on the 3DS.

also wouldn't hurt if Sony tried to make the Vita sort of a steaming hub for things like onlive or gaikai or its own take.

Earlier this week, Amazon Japan started a campaign which gave a ¥2000 discount to those who bought a PlayStation Vita 3G model along with at least one game. The campaign started on February 15 and will run through March 31.

While Amazon and other retailers often run such bundle campaigns, it turns out that this may actually be an official Sony campaign. Multiple smaller retailers have reported that Sony has given them instructions to begin the same campaign on the 23rd (yes, there seems to be some annoyance that Amazon gets to start it earlier).

It's unclear if Sony will give publicity to the campaign, with an official name and campaign website, or if the campaign will be handled by retailers themselves. We should find out next week when the campaign expands to all retailers.

It's worth noting that the campaign only applies to the 3G model. Amazon is still offering this as the first run limited edition, which includes a pre-paid 3G usage card. The system's MSRP is ¥29,980, but Amazon discounts it to ¥26,707. (Amazon offers similar discounts on most systems, although the percentage varies.)

Well I'm liking it a lot.

It's a huge improvement over the original PSP and I love the potential. I'm looking forward to cross-platform PS3/Vita support with MLB 12 a lot. I like "Near" that shows you all the Vita owners within a 3 mile radius of you. Uncharted looks like PS3 Uncharted and Wipeout is melt-your-face-off awesome.

If EA were to port Battlefield 3 to this I'll actually pay for a 3G plan just to play it anywhere.

I got my bundle at Fry's. I went to one Best Buy and they had bundles on the fucking table but they had some stooge standing there telling people they could only buy one if it was pre-ordered or if they signed up for a BB credit card if they didn't pre-order.

I walked into Fry's and just grabbed one off the table with the games I wanted and paid for it. No bullshit.

I played a bunch of GoW: Ghost of Sparta and some more Lumines and Wipeout yesterday. The screen is so vibrant I was seeing spots after about 30 mins of Lumines (at night, in a well-lit room...). Looks beautiful but I may need to dial down the brightness a little. GoW looks pretty good for a PSP game, thanks to the bigger, brighter screen. Wipeout - I'm going to just do the first few races over and over 'til I improve I think. It's counter-intuitive given how easy they are but it seems to be the only way.

So PS2-level graphics and shit voice acting aside, Shinobido 2 seems pretty good.  The demo was based on the training mode and was not the best way for them to show how things are.  Controls are good and the only use of touch-screen crap I'm seeing is with the back touch panel- you can use it to aim your grappling hook (but can also use the analog stick).

I never did play the original Shinobido on PS2, just the PSP and level add-on pack for PS2 versions, but this seems to be following a similar path to the original, in that you have three lords feuding over a territory and can take various types of missions, to play them against each other and lower/strengthen your bonds with them.  There's also an item-making system that is fairly simple to use (and a shop), from stuff you can find laying around the levels.

I don't get what's happening with street dates.  I got a call about Shinobido 2 from gamestop a week ago, for some reason, because I have it ordered on Amazon who is claiming it's arriving on the 21st.  Sucks for people who want to go digital only and have the first edition bundles too.

it's nice to know ninja gaiden is out early too.  I'm waiting for some impressions of that compared to the PS3 version.

it's cute that you think at&t 3g is fast enough for an fps

yeah, that's not going to happen.  3G 'multiplayer' will probably be more about async competition, high scores, ghosts, and things like that.

I watched that and it looked a bit flat.  I haven't played Black or Sigma in a while to compare, but the look reminded me of turning off post processing in a PC game.  I'm fine with that if the game plays smooth.  The touch ninpo thing is funny because Sigma on PS3 had waggle ninpo.  I don't think anyone had a problem with ninpo in the xbox game.

If you've never played Ghost of Sparta, play it on PS3.  Not that I did, but it's a good game (I liked both PSP GoWs a good deal, and GoS is definitely the superior one) and I've heard nothing but infinite praise at the HD remastered versions of the two PSP games since Ready at Dawn did them themselves and even replaced a lot of assets with higher quality ones (plus 60fps, 4x AA, etc..)

Tried out Blazblue.  It's prettttty good.  But despite everyone saying "zomg best d-pad on a sony system ever" I find the d-pad pretty inferior to the DS2/3 one and with Blazblue's really really strict move timings I'm finding it hard to pull off stuff consistently on the Vita.  Also the analog placement means it's easy to accidentally flick the analog when you hit down on the d-pad and screw something up.

Played a match online and no noticeable lag.  Very cool.

Wish there was an option in the display options to zoom in so the characters could be larger.  They feel kind of small compared to how they look playing on the console version on a big screen.  It's very zoomed out.  Story mode looks greaaaaat on Vita though.  Should be a nice Vita visual novel.

And Blazblue has always had one of the few dubs I really like.  It's so campy and awesome; mad respect for the Aksys crew's dub work on the game.

Played more Uncharted.  Guess it's the first Vita game I'm going to focus on and run through from start to finish.  I keep going back and forth on if I like the game.  The controls and gunfights aren't too bad when you get the hang of it and the gryo motion controls actually work pretty good for a lot of shooting, color me surprised.  The exploring is ok, not naughty dog cool, but ok vistas and some hidden stuff.  Writing is entertaining but again not ND standard.

But man, the touch stuff and motion stuff is SO FORCED.  I haven't seen gimmicky crap shoved into a game this badly since the DS launch and it's even WORSE because the Vita can do way more gimmicks than the DS could.  Chapter 2 was freaking AWFUL.  Every 30 seconds was some stupid touch/motion mini-game.  Sony should feel embarassed for forcing Bend to shove all this crap into the most important franchise Sony has in the west.  They made the Vita for CORE GAMERS, they even said so.  Core gamers love Uncharted and core gamers hate this gimmicky shit.  So gj taking a major core franchise and making it some hardcore/casual monstrosity which will appeal to no one.  The good news is that if Bend makes another Uncharted Vita in 1-2 years, the gimmick phase should be dead by then and maybe we can just get a good old fashioned portable Uncharted adventure.

Otoh, Chapter 3 spaced out the touch stuff and even had a SINGLE LOG which did not result in the BALANCE YOURSELF MINIGAME omg and the combat and exploring was decent, so I enjoyed ch.3.  Have the feeling I'll be going back and forth a lot on this title until it ends.  It's probably somewhere between a 6/10 and an 8/10 game.

I definitely think one of the reasons why Vita is getting a lot of hate or disinterest in the gaming press is because Sony has pushed Uncharted Vita as the flagship launch title and yet it seems like it's probably one of the lower 50% quality tier of launch titles.  Lots of great launch games, but Uncharted isn't hanging with the pack so far.

Ended up playing Shinobido for several hours straight last night.  It's a lot fun, but the biggest problem it has is its lack of maps.  According to Gamefaqs, there's 13 maps total, but I spent most of my play time on the same TWO over and over again.  Yet it somehow managed to work since there's a bunch of different mission and enemy types.

I hope it gets hacked and people put tons of emulators on it.  Success would be neat too.  I certainly want it to last long enough for Sony to make an official, and exploitable, PS2 emulator.

Re: FIFA, I used to love Winning Eleven and played the heck out of it yearly back in WE5/6 days in 2003-2005ish.  Then WE started going wrong around WE8 and I bailed.  Back at that time FIFA was a joke game and so I never played a FIFA.  I remember hearing a few years ago that FIFA became legit and is getting up to the quality of the good old days of WE.  If I liked WE a lot, any chance I'd like FIFA?  And how does the Vita FIFA compare to the console versions?

Ah, come now, Bebsie.  Uncharted isn't their most important franchise for the west, God of War is.  It's not even close.  Uncharted has got to represent one of the greatest perception -> reality gaps in "gamer common sense".

fun fact - the highest selling uncharted game has only sold about 20k more than the highest selling resistance game

I think God of War, like Halo, has lots a lot of importance this gen.  Last gen these games commanded the highest Call of Duty presence and the hype for their first entries on X360/PS3 was HUGE, but since then I think they've lost importance and people have moved on to other franchises.  They'll still sell well, but I see the numbers continually going down for both until they're Gran Turismo by mid-next gen.  Uncharted is the big NEW Sony franchise this gen.  When you talk to random casual people about what the must have games are on the PS3 they'll always say Uncharted.

No one ever cared about Killzone until the CG trailer at the PS3 reveal.  Then people were hyped about K2, but after it came out no one cared about KZ again.  Resistance only did decent numbers because it was a pack in and the launch FPS for PS3.  LBP does good numbers because despite all you haters, it's good and approachable for kids and families as well as hardcore gamers.  But LBP doesn't have a lot of presence since it's more of a family thing than a major core franchise.

Killzone was touted as a 'Halo killer' back in the day haha

I always thought Gran Turismo was Sony's more profitable and popular franchise.  Don't know how GT PSP or GT5 sold to down that thought.

Nah, they'll say Call Of Duty and Madden.

There was a bunch of "Killzone: The PS2 Halo Killer!" hype when it was announced, then the game came out and nobody gave a shit.  K2 was just following suit.

Maybe I missed it, but KZ3 seemed to get very little hype.

Once Killzone 2 came out and people realized it was just another shooter instead of the second coming as it had been hyped as by fanboys the hype bubble quickly deflated for the 3rd. All the sony shooters were over-hyped as people were trying to create the Halo or Gears for that system.

Real talk:  I still haven't popped in KZ3 or R3.  No interest.  Then again I haven't popped in Halo Reach for the same reason.  Just kind of bored of all those franchises.  No rush to play more.

Resistance 3 is fun if youre not expecting Call of duty or halo.

As for FIFA it's very fun, PES / WE still plays a more realistic game of football, but FIFA is very good in it's own arcadey ways. Theres a demo on tuesday you can check out
