I haven't posted in a while because I'm so addicted to The Pinball Arcade. It's the only reason why I'm keeping my Vita around.

There's an outside chance the Vita will have a mildly less abortive life in Japan - the library is pretty good as is if you ask me.

I've recently started playing Miku.... i'm not entirely comfy with playing it on a train but the game itself is solid enough. Hmmm.... "solid" ....

I haven't played it much.  Most of the songs just aren't my style.  Plus a lot of the time I play my Vita with the sound muted...

Even Tecmo's got to be reassessing things after the sales craters Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 and DoA5 left.

You're saying this like not getting NGS3 would be a bad thing

How you know Vita is really fucked: Even Sam Bishop has started to get pessimistic about it in his most recent posts on SA.

Anyone familiar with his record on Sony platforms in general and Vita in particular will know just how remarkable this is.

I like it so far. It's kinda like a more fast pased, twitch based version of monster hunter. Reminds me a bit of Vindictus.

I played some Guacamelee last night - 'tis good but yeah, a bit cramped on Vita. The main character is like 10% the height of the screen most of the time. Will likely switch to the PS3. Also, it is way too hard and fiddly for the kid :(

IMPLEMENT DIFFICULTY OPTIONS, IDIOT DEVELOPERS, it is 2013

I DON'T CARE HOW HARDCORE YOU WANT TO BE PERCEIVED AS. You can double or triple the audience for your game with smart difficulty scaling or options.

It's going to end up just like the PSP in its later years.  I was importing just about everything at one point since nothing was getting released here.

I still see more games coming to the Vita that I'm interested in than what's coming to the 3DS.  Not caring about RPGs will do that.

Guess I'll stick to consoles if smartphone gaming takes everything over.  Touchscreen-only controls  :yuck

This is what I get for posting drunk!

Funny enough I still keep in touch with the girl (though now she has reverted to her natural blonde color) - she recently opened up her own vintage clothing boutique out here on the south shore and is doing really well for herself.

Touch controls aren't bad for turn based games.. not that great for most realtime genres.

BUT he added this: "Oh and the P game".

I asked about what "P" game and he told me: "the one that people will say to me “WTF?!” Or “COOL!”

He added: "And I’m hoping to get some more stuff signed before E3. Something for everyone".

I asked about E3 show, hoping Sony won't forget about Vita, and told me this: "I’m sure you will enjoy the show, nobody has forgotten about Vita, trust me".

Then he said: "Oh and there is an AMAZING big title coming to Vita. I can’t tell you anything about it, except that you are gonna be hooked for hours".

what the fuck is the P game?

Surprisingly big in the sense that everyone was expecting nothing except for maybe something on Killzone and PS4/PSV connectivity.  Sony shortchanged the Vita last E3 when there was something to show.  Now there's jack and shit (except Killzone LOL) to show off.

whatever is shown, I just don't want more portable versions of PS3 games.  PSP was better about having its own identity, even if it involved reviving PS1 franchises.

It's not the roots; it's the redundancy that gets me.  Killzone and Resistance on PSP were different games than what was on consoles (and better for it).  But you look at Killzone and Resistance on Vita and they look the same as the PS3 games.  Same problem with NSMB2 3DS and NSMBU.  Crossplay games are fine, though.

edit: ports are fine, too.  That's not what I'm whining about  :'(

agreed.   especially when a lot of the ports so far are of some of my all time favorite games.

But those are not the same games.  It's not the same content....

i just wanted to use that line.  hopefully Killzone fares better than Resistance since it isn't farmed out.  and hopefully it's something more than what killzone has offered on consoles, but my hopes aren't too high.  Definite PS+ game for me.

Whilst the Vita is obviously in a bad way my PSV/3DS experience is pretty much identical to rhe DS/PSP split with flitting from one machine to the other.

Maybe my standards have gone to shit as i have a glut of Vita titles to play - not that that makes any big differnce to its fate because they need something with broad appeal.

If the Vita is to die then i'd like to at least get a Hdmi cradle out of sony and some accidentally leaked CFW solution so we can at least get the king of mobile emulation out of it if we arent getting any more games

Regardling E3 - theres a lot of people who would "know" nudging and winking about Vita at E3 but i honestly cant put much faith in that unless Sony have taken their cheque books round everyone who matters and got some true Vita exclusive titles - and lets face it it would seem a pretty long punt right now.

Unless the machine gets something crazy like .... And you know - i honestly cant think of anything that would save it in the west at this point. Japan ? would need a strong combo with massive names. Stranger things have happened but i cant see it happening

That seems too generous to Vita in Japan and a bit too harsh to Wii U, but we'll see.

There have been enough E3 rumors that I now expect more new retail announcements than I previously had (one or two more HD collections, Ubisoft stuff, possibly Bend's next project), but demographics make what's left of the Western dedicated handheld market almost impossible to crack.  The only things that could "save" Vita in any territory are major Japanese third-party exclusives, and even those wouldn't likely help much outside Japan.

I don't think calling anything Gamecube-esque in Japan is anywhere near generous.  4 million units sold with only one competitor and a portfolio of characters that are beyond beloved in the country.  Vita's at about 1.5 million now.  I think it can hit 4 million.  Software-wise, it's probably too generous, though.  There won't be any million-sellers on Vita unless Capcom brings MH back around.

Even assuming it stays in production for a normal generational lifespan, I don't see it getting to 4M there unless third-party support improves significantly beyond what's currently announced. But not like I haven't been wrong before.

heh, it's funny being on the losing team but loving the system.  it's also funny they are ditching BC on consoles but that BC is the only thing making this thing worthwhile at the moment.   I can't even trick myself into liking most of the full retail original games on the system.  Uncharted, Gravity Rush...shit's straight up ass.  Maybe soul sacrifice is good, but i've got plenty of stuff I'd rather play.

It's getting lots of good little PSN games though.  I'll be on Hotline Miami and that space shooter that was a mini but is now a full game.  the trailer made it look pretty ingenious.

I haven't gotten into Soul Sac at all since the demo - i just haven't had the urge to play it.  Uncharted i thought was way better than people make out, yet Gravity Rush just didn't click with me though i still need to go back to it. Miku F is stupidly good - i have no idea why i didn't play it sooner, PBS2013 is incredible as a handheld game.... aaaaand i'm stopping there before it becomes a list post.

I would agree with the notion though that most the good stuff on the Vita can be played on a console - and that's an issue. It's not had -and may never get- that machine making game. I'd say a truly customised-for-portable GT game is about the best shot Sony has and , to be honest, unless it's part of a big surprise package at E3 then not announcing it with GT6 seems to put that one in the ground.

Although it's hardly the killer Japanese app the Vita needed- especially with the better version out on PS3.

I haven't played much of Uncharted myself -hate those essentially-required gyro controls- and need to play more Gravity Rush.  Same with Soul Sacrifice, which I now think may not be for me.  Need to keep going but I'm all about musou games right now.

Actually I have a good number of Vita games in my backlog already.  I spend most of my playtime with a few select titles.  DOA5 has taken a backseat already but I still play the shit out of SFxTK and am still working on Senran Kagura.  When that's done it's full on One Piece.

Didnt say it was - but it sold well enough i thought(?) - nothing is a killer app by virtue of sales. Seriously i cant think of anything that would be either outside an exclusive Vita only MH4thP that is significantly better than Mh4.

God I hate Miku

Yup.

So the plot of the 3DS SRW UX game featuring VIRTUAL ON HATSUNE MIKU is that:

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Hatsune Miku is the physical manifestation of thoughts of music, love and positive energy of an entire universe (ours) warped into the UX universe and she is the central, god entity that is the only hope for the UX universe (basically KOS-MOS of SRW UX).

I am just a late to the party skeever :/

Game is an excellent fill in for Ouendan - the music starts to get less grating after a while and theres a good number of songs
