Can't you play Spyro by transferring it via PS3? Weird if that doesn't work via US.

But yeah, this is a horrible move. The fact that the system suddenly had a huge backlog of titles to go through would've helped with it's image problem. Now it's "yeah it has a huge backlog of titles... that may not run on it. Whoops!"

For a company that prides itself in listening to gamers, there's only a few other things they could've done to handle this situation worse than they have. Instead of being completely silent about it, they should've admitted to it being an error immediately.

Also, what the fuck is Androx?

Frankly, it was pretty dumb of them to sign digital distribution agreements that didn't allow compatibility with successive platforms. This is the same company that wants to become a streaming service, right?

And as Andy mentions, the fragmented compatibility list is something exclusive to SCEA. Unless a game has been removed from purchase, pretty much every PSP/PSone game on PSN is on the Japanese, and European Vita storefronts. They've never provided an explanation for this, and given their silence over this past week, I doubt they ever will.

They must have some weird contracts then. As you know, there's a bunch of games that don't appear on the Vita store/download list that work via PS3 transfer. They have the power to block those, as the Crash/Spyro games still wouldn't work. What's stopping them from just putting those up on the actual store?

Anyways, as they're negotiating for PS Now/PS4 stuff, they'll hopefully be able to get this missing stuff for Vita.

Ordered a Vita 2000 and threw in a 64GB card with it.  Backed up the save data from my U.S. account and then just wiped my 1000; it's now going to be used for my Japanese account.  Nice to finally have the option to use DLC and get digital-only games without that account-switching nonsense, but it's also an expensive little workaround.

NeoGAF posters are now at the point where they are hyping the 2000 up as the second coming.  I've seen people saying even the screen is better.  Don't believe that for a second, but am looking forward to seeing how the new model feels and compares to the OLED model in person.

They shouldn't have even bothered with 8GB.  It's almost as useless as that 1GB available (only without a memory card inserted!) on the 2000s.

16GB might be doable.  I have like 37 Vita games (almost all carts, not downloads), plus PSP, minis, and PS1 games on my 32GB card, and even then I still generally have 9-10GB free.  I went with the 64GB card so I can get more games digitally without worrying about the space being taken up.

It was the cheapest option when I bought my Vita. Right now I just have physical copies so it works. I mean I still have my PSP and all the physical copies for those games, so if I want to play a PSP games I'm good.

It wasn't announced, but it's pretty obvious that it's coming.  They did a little preview image with blacked-out character silhouettes from various games, and someone matched up a Senran Kagura character perfectly with one of them.

Speaking of Senran Kagura, I got Dekamori Senran Kagura over the weekend, which is the download-only music cooking game.  Didn't think it was possible to get even more perverted, but they proved me wrong!  Beat your rival with a high percentage and they get stripped nude, covered in whipped cream/chocolate/etc and are put on top on giant desserts with :uguu faces and twinkling eyes.  It's pretty disturbing when this happens to the loli characters.  I didn't think they'd ever localize the original, but the Vita games have straight-up (albeit censored, with white lines/mini character faces) nudity in them.  Is that really going to get through?

My white 2000 model arrived today.  Transferred my backup to the new 64GB card and did some comparisons between the two models.

Initial impressions are that the 2000 model does not feel as "cheap" as I've heard; the build is solid and the slimmer, sleaker shape is more appealing than the 1000 model was.  The 1000 was already comfortable to hold and use, but the 2000 is definitely more ergonomic and lighter, with better face and shoulder buttons.  The smaller rear touch pad area also makes the system more comfortable in your hands, with far less of a chance that you'll hit the panel by mistake when playing.

But the 2000's LCD screen, while still very good, does not hold a candle to the 1000's OLED screen.  There's just no comparison when it comes to the warmer, vivid colors that just pop off the screen and the brightness/black levels.  That said, the LCD's cooler color scheme does fit some games better and I noticed that the LCD is a bit sharper, whereas the OLED almost seemed a bit blurry when I compared games.  PSP games also looked noticeably better on the LCD because of the sharpness.

Should you upgrade to a 2000 if you own a 1000?  The choice comes down to whether or not you prefer the OLED screen versus better form factor and battery life.  If you're a new buyer, I wouldn't hesitate to buy the 2000 model.  Even though the OLED is superior, the 2000's LCD is still pretty high quality.

Model comparison:

spoiler (click to show/hide)

[close]

Screen comparisons and the 2000's LCD screen quality at various angles.  Brightness levels were at medium on both systems.  The first photo is of similar modes with the same character in both Senran Kagura games.  It pretty much speaks for itself...1000, no contest.  But with BlazBlue, I preferred the look on the 2000.

I've tried playing a few games on my 1000 model after a couple hundred hours on the 2000.

Not a fan of the color saturation anymore, everything looks off on the OLED due to the bad color accuracy.

At a casual glance though I can see how people prefer the OLED though due to the natural pop. But it doesn't work anymore for me.

...Just make me go :what

I mean, the 2000 is great on its own.  And in comparison to the 1000, it has its advantages, but the screen is not one of them.    :dizzy

am i supposed to see something other than the vita above has a darker screen and a more raunchy screenshot?

Nope, that's it- the OLED screen is brighter and more vibrant, with a warmer color scheme.  The LCD screen is darker and the colors are more muted in comparison, with a cooler color scheme.

The black levels on the OLED crush the ones on the LCD and whites look slightly yellowish on the LCD as well.  Gotta keep saying that I'm not even putting down the LCD -it's a really good screen- but it's ridiculous to say that it's better than the OLED.  Sony downgraded the screen to keep costs down.  This is a fact.  People be cray-cray.  What else is new, I guess.

No, fo realz. If you're not used to the OLED, you'll be totally fine with the 2000 and the improved ergonomics/battery life will be welcome.  And here I am saying this, but I'm somehow still "hating" on it!   :lol

There's gotta be some shills in that thread.  That and/or people trying to justify their import purchases from back when the prices were higher.  It makes no sense to proclaim an LCD screen superior to an OLED screen.

Really, losing the OLED was the biggest downgrade ever. Not worth taking the L on buying a 2000 just for a smaller backtouch that won't get in the way.  :'(

After playing P4G on the OLED, I really can't see it having the same "WOW" effect on LCD. Though, like I said earlier this year, it's gonna be REALLY interesting how games developed for the 2000's color scheme/LCD in mind look on the OLED. Probably bad. :/

I'm getting the 2000 because it's somehow easier for me to justify buying something different to replace my screwed up original.  But yeah, by comparison it looks rough next to the original OLED.  Put it next to a 3DS, better, or another LCD device, it becomes a more favorable comparison.
