Decided to get Ragnarok Odyssey Ace last night.  Same game as the original, but with more content added and the animation has been improved.

Make sure you download the Grandia Soundtrack DLC. :noah

Remote play kind of sucks unless you're right next to the PS4, which sort of negates the whole remote playing aspect.

Results vary.  I haven't tried it from outside my place, but I can get great results anywhere in my apartment.  There are two types of remote play connection settings you can use, BTW.  One based on your wireless network and the other directly connected to your PS4.  The latter is the one that you need to be closer to the system for it to work well.

Remote play sucks in general. Doesn't matter the mode. That input lag. :yuck

The tiny ass start/select buttons. This is fixed in 2000, since they made the buttons bigger and easier to press.

My main issue is that it isn't working.

If I connect the AC adapter the PS-button will turn orange for a second and then I get no response from it. I've tried to hold down various buttons for 5 and 30+ seconds without any change. When I asked the official support for advice I received a copy/pasted FAQ reply in a different language. I'm considering returning it to the retail store even though I'm out of warranty. It stopped working five minutes after I upgraded to the latest firmware and I suspect that there is a software related problem that is causing the issue.

30 second input lag when I'm five inches from the system = terrible.

Boot into safe mode? If that isn't it, the system died or something. My first one did that and I had to take it to the store to get a replacement. I have no idea why. It may have been heat or simply a manufacture defect.

I read Borderlands is one of the biggest games released yet.  Would like to know if that means the retail version will have an increased cart size, or if that's all bull shit.

The tiny ass start/select buttons. This is fixed in 2000, since they made the buttons bigger and easier to press.

What issues do you guys have with the original Vita?

That's about the biggest issue with it, apart from those who experienced problems with the OLED mura effect.  The Vita 1000 build was pretty solid.  The 2000's improvements are in its shoulder and face buttons, battery life, and slimmer design, and weight.

30 second input lag when I'm five inches from the system = terrible.

That's a problem with your setup, not remote play.  :deal

This, too- I downloaded Ragnarok Odyssey Ace last night (2+ GB) in like 10 minutes.

5gb altogether, it's separated in parts

I just paused the downloads and checked my connection speed, I'm getting 12 down and 3 up on the Vita's Wifi, so it's not my internet, it's Sony's pure shit servers

This shit is telling me I still have 301 minutes to go - that's five fucking hours - and two more parts to download after that!

If this is how it's gonna be all the time this system can go fuck itself, I mean, they won't even let you download to the PS4 and transfer over

Speed is fine on both WiFi and wired, but I keep it wired. Again, I will point this out in case you missed it the first time:

I just paused the downloads and checked my connection speed, I'm getting 12 down and 3 up on the Vita's Wifi, so it's not my internet, it's Sony's pure shit servers

This result is from the Vita's built-in connection test, and from a separate test I took through the Vita web browser.  So, yeah, it's not me.

Soul Sacrifice Delta is out next week - digital only. Tempting to get it, I really got into the first one.

The additions seem like enough that I'd want to try this out again, but I guess it's better to hold off since I have Toukiden and now Ace to play.

Quote
PSB: Soul Sacrifice Delta – is this an expansion, or a full blown sequel?
AB: It’s a very large scale expansion, but not a full blown sequel. There’s a lot for a Soul Sacrifice fan to sink their teeth into – no pun intended.
Soul Sacrifice Delta on PS Vita

PSB: What exactly can those fans expect from it, and when will we see it on shelves?
AB: Soul Sacrifice Delta brings many additions and enhancements to the original title – there are new monsters based on classic fairy tales with a dark twist, more sorcerers, maps, quest and spells.

But there isn’t just more of everything; we’ve made many improvements to the game mechanics with dynamic maps, adaptive and more complex AI for the monsters. The spell casting system has been overhauled too: you can now combine spells during battle to enhance them or create new ones, which adds a lot of variety and depth to the gameplay.

Soul Sacrifice Delta also introduces Grim, the third faction, and tells the story of their plot against the established order and the very nature of the world. Players can now choose to pledge allegiance to one of the factions, which have their own strengths, rewards and play styles, all of which reflect the faction’s belief.

Save data from Soul sacrifice including story progression, costumes, offerings, sigils, black rites, life/soul essence and lacrima (up to 10,000) will carry over to Soul Sacrifice Delta! So, if you transfer your save data from Soul Sacrifice, the story progression will carry over and you can continue on with your adventure in Soul Sacrifice Delta.

We’re planning to release Soul Sacrifice only on the PlayStation Store, on May 13th.

You can use the content manager to back up everything on your memory card to your PC and restore it to the new system.  Use the USB cable to do this; doing it wirelessly will take forever if you have enough stuff on your card.

Okay, the DL speeds finally revved up and it finished. Tried it out for a few minutes. The framerate stutters somewhat in parts, and there's some texture pop-in, but this is very impressive overall. Looks a lot better on the Vita screen than videos reflect. It's BL2 in your hands, with a few concessions made. I could see myself playing through again using a different class/character than the one I used on PC.  That text is microscopic, though, even with my reading glasses.

So the steps would be:  transfer vita memory card contents to PC/PS3, erase memory card, transfer from PC/PS3 to new vita on new card?

You can't simply take the old card and put it in the new system?

Right.  I did this with 18-19GB of content and it took about an hour to transfer each way.  You also want to make sure to deactivate the old Vita when you've backed everything up (IIRC it prompts you to do this).

I'm not sure if you can do it this way.  I didn't want to lose anything so I used the Content Manager method.

If you don't have any other way to play it...maybe?  It's such an old game, though, and available on so many platforms, that $40 is pretty steep. I don't know how it'll hold up during more hectic moments (enemy count is lower, the way they handle it is to have more enemies spawn off-screen behind scenery and run into view as you kill the first batch of 3-6). They did about as good a job as they could with the porting, though. Definitely worth $25, as there's a hell of a lot of content here, and from what I understand they're going to port over the rest of the expansions.

I find it very strange that they prioritized the screen resolution over the frame rate or visual effects. I guess the art style looked awful at subnative?

Has to be the text. It's minuscule, and would probably be entirely unreadable at a lower resolution

Hate how stiff and cumbersome it feels to move around and attack in Monster Hunter.  Soul Sacrifice and Toukiden shit all over it with speed, agility, and fast combat.

Maybe this was improved in Monster Hunter 4?

I picked it up earlier.  great unskippable intro video showing the old vita model.  signing in, register, and swapping memory cards transferred almost everything except retail games.  everything is better except the screen and (arguably) the look for the thing.  it's surprisingly light.

Oh man, this God of War port. I'm in Athens trying to get to the Oracle and I come across a swarm of zombie soldier guys that have me cornered me against a wall with a save point. Every two or three hits I'm pestered by a notification asking me if I'd like to save the game. My fingers aren't anywhere near the touch pad but it keeps on popping up. Eventually I just jump over the group and hit them at a different direction.

Smaller touch pad, the Vita-2000's true best feature.
