I dont understand the fetish with J voices.

I'm trying to play Hearts R and the constant screeching of moon language interrupts my mental concentration of reading the text. Thankfully you can disable the voices and just play it just fine.

This game is giving me such cognitive dissonance. I hate hate hate PSO for effectively killing off the traditional, turn-based series... but I love love love tri-Ace.

Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax is out in Japan, too.  Double-dipped and got it on PS3 and Vita.  The latter is not Vita TV compatible and does not have cross-play.  Thanks, Sega.   :-\

This is a fighting game with characters from various light novels/manga/anime series, including Sword Art Online, Shakugan No Shana, that Railgun series, Durarara!!!, and Ore No Imouto.  Akira from VF and Selvaria from VC are also playable in the home version.

All of the stages in Dengeki Bunko are Sega-themed.  You've got Sonic, Nights, Virtua Fighter, Shinobi, Phantasy Star Online 2, and Valkryia Chronicles themed stages.  I dunno about you, but I'd rather have characters from those games playable instead of random anime characters.  :P

But the game is pretty fun.  It's pretty simplistic for a 2D fighter; most of the characters just have a few moves, and all are done with fireball motions.  There's an auto combo into-super that can be done with the light attack, just like in Persona 4 Arena.  In fact this game reminds me of an easier to play P4A, which is funny as P4A reminds me of an easier to play BlazBlue!  The roster is on the small side, but the characters feel varied enough and there's plenty of assist characters to use.  I still need to unlock Akira and Selvaria, too.

The visuals on Vita are a mixed bag- backgrounds look great but the sprites look a little...squished on the screen.  They're not bad though, but a little bit of detail is missing.  Reminds me of how BlazBlue looked on PSP/3DS.  I think the resolution on the sprites was not scaled down for Vita.  Also happy that the load times are almost non-existent, which is welcome after BlazBlue CP and Arcana Heart 3 LM shipped with pretty bad load times on Vita.  I still have to try the PS3 version too!

There's virtually no chance of this game get localized so it will probably stay on my recommended import game PS3/Vita list for the foreseeable future.

Well they aren't really... random anime characters.  Dengeki Bunko is a light novel publisher, and all the playable (and assist) characters sans Akira and Selvaria are from novels published by them. It's pretty much a JPN publisher-centric fighting game ala the Jump! Fighting games, Sunday X Magazine, DreamMix TV, etc.

Tales of Hearts R is a pretty standard tales game. Typical JRPG plot and well polished action combat. Since most (all?) other action JRPGs died off, Tales wins by default. :-[

lol

OP isn't wrong. I say that with all the love toward the system. While I like them taking the backtouch out with the TV variant (thereby games can only go up in terms of quality and being able to hold the system without the backtouch screwing up your games by being "in-control.") there's barely anything coming to the system if you aren't into Japanese titles or Indies.

Borderlands 2 was the last "Western" title for the system as far as I recall. Everything since has been Japanese or Indies. Everyone that goes "oh well you can use it as a media-player or a PSX emulator or a PSP emulator" are forgetting you can do nearly the same thing on modern phones if you really want that. Throw in that Remote Play is able to be done on Androids now and that's another nail in the "why would you own one?" question.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=139128907&postcount=402

This guy has it right. What Sony promised and what Sony gave are completely different. There's a vocal fanbase out there enjoys the deluge of Indies and Japanese Moe-pantsu titles that are coming to the system and may/may-not come to the west (thankfully Sony made the system Region Free in carts), but that doesn't mean there isn't a segment (me included) that really hates the way the system has turned out. There's massive potential there, but it simply isn't reaching it.

Oh well, I guess the only thing I'm really waiting for is for it to be (finally) cracked so I can untie my saves from the gameapps and save massive drive-space.

I don't think he's wrong. Sony's been pretty awful with the Vita. Even before the system was clearly dead I never felt like they tried much. In the west anyway. It dosen't matter I was never into the system for the western games anyway, but it's not like the Japanese side has been amazing. It's a very meh system honestly. I don't actually even know why I have one.

It's been pretty obvious that western support was going to be little to none for quite some time now.  The 3DS is no better in that regard and their predecessors ended up the same way.  Western devs make smart phone games.

Cool, well I got PSP 2.0 and I dont own any of those MOE PANTSU games

What titles beside Tales (which technically is Moe) is not MOE PANTSU on the system coming from Japan?

Dagon Ronpa and... that's about it?

Here's the thing: PSP, while a JRPG powerhouse (and I loved it for that)... had a variety of genres and titles that didn't feel like "Moe crap" from Japan.

You can't tell me the Vita will get:

Killzone: Liberation
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (which was techincally a Monster Hunter-style clone)
Phantasy Star Portable (grand-daddy of Monster Hunter)
Monster Hunter: 2nd/3rd G Portable
DJ Max 2/3/4 (because the developer of the Vita version is dead now aren't they?)
Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together
Persona 1-3
Burnout
Metal Gear: AC!D 1 or 2.

Hell, you could throw in earlier Launch-ish stuff like Field Commander which was more an Advanced Wars type of dealie on the system for sake of variety. None of these were (mostly) ports that you could get for far cheaper on another system/platform and felt varied enough to not be a "wave" of crap that doesn't interest most people.

While there's one Tales of for the Vita there's about twenty "Akiba's trip"-level of crap that creeps the people that bought the system for various-shades of games from the system. That's the problem the Vita has.

Phantasy Star Portable (grand-daddy of Monster Hunter)
Monster Hunter: 2nd/3rd G Portable

Soul Sacrifice, Ragnarok Odyssey, Freedom Wars, Toukiden, and God Eater 2.  Take your pick.  There's also that MMORPG style Monster Hunter and Phantasy Star Online 2, although the latter three are Japanese only.

DJ Max 2/3/4 (because the developer of the Vita version is dead now aren't they?)

There's a DJ Max game on Vita too.  Plus other music games like Project Diva.

a little late, but here's our ambassador program:

Quote
According to the ads, “It’s a problem as old as gaming itself. Stay home and just keep playing, or get to work on time so your coffee breath boss doesn’t ride you like a rented scooter.” For gamers who face that dilemma, Sony Computer Entertainment America marketed its PlayStation Vita as the solution. But according to a settlement announced by the FTC, Sony didn’t deliver on its promises. The lawsuit also charged that Sony’s ad agency, Deutsch LA, had employees post rave tweets about the PS Vita without disclosing their connection to Deutsch or Sony.

Even for gamers who wear out the upholstery in front of the PlayStation, every now and then, they really do need to get off the couch. But how can they keep playing since they can’t take the console with them? Enter the PS Vita. According to the ads, “With Cross Platform Gaming, you can play your PS3 game, pause it, then pick up right where you left off on your Vita.” What’s more, Sony’s ads led people to believe that buying the 3G version – which cost an extra $50 plus monthly fees – would let them engage in live, multiplayer gaming.

So what’s the straight story? The FTC says Sony exaggerated the Vita’s capabilities. In fact, users can’t easily access their PS3 games on the PS Vita. Most PS3 games can’t be played remotely because Sony didn’t specifically design the remote play feature into the PS3 system. For example, the popular PS3 game Killzone 3 was featured in a Sony video about remote play, but was never playable remotely on the Vita – and very few, if any, games of a similar size and complexity worked with the remote play feature.

What about pausing on the console and picking the game up where you left off with the PS Vita? Good luck with that because according to the complaint, the heavily hyped cross platform feature was available for only a few PS3 games.

Here's an example of how things actually worked – or didn't work – for many users. Ads for “MLB12: The Show” promised gamers "NEVER STOP PLAYING" and touted "Cross Platform Game Save" that let users "Play on your PS3 system and then continue your game on the go with PS Vita." But users could pause the game on their console and pick it up on their Vita only after they’d played the entire game – all 9 innings. In addition, Sony didn’t tell gamers that to use this feature, in most cases they had to buy two versions of the same game – one for their PS3 and another for their Vita.

What about Sony’s claim that users could engage in live, multiplayer gaming through 3G? Actual game play delivered less than the company promised. According to the complaint, PS Vita users are restricted to “asynchronous” multiplayer gaming – a fancy word for “My turn, then your turn” – and can’t engage in games that feature live, simultaneous play.

The complaint challenges Sony’s ad claims as false or misleading. To settle the lawsuit, the company has agreed to offer buyers $25 in cash or a voucher for $50 worth of merchandise from a group of Sony products and services.

The FTC’s action against California-based Deutsch LA charges that the ad agency knew or should have known that certain cross platform and live, multiplayer gaming claims for the PS Vita were false. But the allegation of interest to most businesses focuses on the ad agency’s deceptive use of social media to promote the Sony product.

According to the complaint, about a month before the Vita debuted, one of Deutsch’s assistant account executives sent this email to all Deutsch employees:

Fellow Deutschers –

The PlayStation Team has been working hard on a campaign to launch Sony’s all-new handheld gaming device, the PS Vita, and we want YOU to help us kick things off!

The PS Vita's innovative features like 3G gaming, cross platform play and augmented reality will revolutionize the way people game. To generate buzz around the launch of the device, the PS Vita ad campaign will incorporate a #GAMECHANGER hashtag into nearly all creative executions. #GAMECHANGER will drive gamers to Twitter where they can learn more about the PS Vita and join in the conversation. The campaign starts on February 13th, and to get the conversation started, we’re asking YOU to Tweet about the PlayStation Vita using the #GAMECHANGER hashtag. Easy, right? . . .

In response, Deutsch employees used their personal Twitter accounts to hype the PS Vita through tweets like:

    "One thing can be said about PlayStation Vita . . . it’s a #gamechanger"
"PS Vita [ruling] the world. Learn about it! us.playstation.com/psvita/#GAMECHANGER"
"Thumbs UP #GAMECHANGER – check out the new PlayStation Vita"
"This is sick . . . See the new PS Vita in action. The gaming #GameChanger"
"Got the chance to get my hands on a PS Vita and I'm amazed how great the graphcs are. It's definitely a #gamechanger!"

The complaint alleges that Deutsch’s failure to disclose that tweets were from employees of Sony’s ad agency was deceptive.

Interested in weighing in on the proposed settlements? File your comments about Sony or Deutsch by December 29, 2014. If you have clients (or gamers) with questions about the program to get cash back, the proposed order requires Sony to email eligible consumers.

http://www.business.ftc.gov/blog/2014/11/game-over-ftc-challenges-sonys-claims-playstation-vita-and-tweets-deutsch-la

You have to have bought a Vita before June 2012. It's probably US-only, but those ads also aired in Canada and maybe Mexico.

Santa Ana, CA (November 18, 2014) – NIS America is excited to announce that the puzzle action game, htoL#NiQ: The Firefly Diary will be available February 24 in North America as a PlayStation®Vita exclusive! Digital copies of the game will be available on PSN and physical copies will be available exclusively for the US through our new NIS Online Store. This title will also be available in Europe on February 25 as a digital-only release. In this atmospheric title, you’ll use the Vita’s touchscreen and rear touch pad to navigate a young girl through dangerous ruins. Two fairies—one operating in light, and the other in shadow—must work in tandem to uncover this girl’s memories and save her from the darkest of fates.

Is this supposed to be good or is it just riding on it's visuals?

There's few import impressions because it had a limited ~10k-ish physical run in Japan that shot up in price very quickly. The little I did hear about the game was positive.

ART :teehee :zzz
Too bad that there's no deals for the console itself tomorrow, I'd so snag one for 150. 3DS XL gonna be that at one place but the 'New' ver is out next year so that'd be a dumb idea.
