Ok I'm over this con.  Went to some guys room, hung out with these weed smoking HOT CHICKS (1 had a bf) near the pool; 1 was smoking hot (1 with bf), went to another hotel at 3am to meet up with new people.   I got off on the wrong floor, the elevator went up without me with everyone and I guess I was drunk and ran out and missed the elevator as it closed, and I never found the party and had to taxi myself home alone at 5amy

ffffffuuuuuuu

/going to sleep in and then go to patels bbq on sunday.  Sick of this shit.  I am in the between.  I don't fit into a normal society of 9-5 bbq weekends and I don't fit into drink and smoke weed all night youngster weekends. I am IN THE BETWEEEN and that's probably whatdepresses me the most.  I don't fit in anywhere and I'm just trying to fit into the between and I don't really fit so it's awkward and doesn't really work.  I wish I was 15 again and could party till the cows come home with druggies and funny dudes and whoever I run into, but I'm past that age and I really need to do something else to meet people and it makes me sad :(  This girl was like 20, had a bf, and smoked massive weed, but goddamn she was blond, white, and hot and when it was just me and her and the pool and 2am it really felt like something was happening :(

You can still party at 30. It's called a bunch of married guys meet up at a bar or someone's house and do beer snob tastings.

Or Rock Band all night long when the wives are away.

Is there still good anime out there, Bepbo?  The last time I was into anime was back during Cowboy Bebop days, which was a while ago.

Tried Naruto, but it's too long.

This gundam panel seems like a bust. Just a q&a session. AGE confirmed for October if it hadn't been already.

Some good questions though, like "you guys know that your focus on selling merchandise is fucking up your shows"

Is there still good anime out there, Bepbo?  The last time I was into anime was back during Cowboy Bebop days, which was a while ago.

So you basically missed the past decade of anime? Well, the past few years have been really bad, but the 00's actually started out pretty strong. Economic downturn and the rise of moe/loli have been quite destructive, unfortunately. But there is some good stuff still being made even in the past few seasons.

I'll put the list in spoiler tags so it doesn't stretch the thread:

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Full Metal Alchemist and Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood - Haven't seen the latter, which is a remake/continuation of the first, but it's a good shounen-style show that actually ends after only a few seasons

Mushishi - Lots of human drama not a lot of action, but really good

Ano Hi Mita Hana - Melodramatic but earnest, it's about growing up and letting go of a [painful] childhood

Bacanno! - Lots of stylish action set in 1930's Chicago

Eve no Jikan [Time of Eve] - Scifi slice-of-life about humans learning to live alongside very realistic robots

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Scifi, action, politics, spec-ops. It's one of the best

Tatami Galaxy - Very weird, very surreal show about a guy trying to live the perfect college life and generally failing

Kino's Journey - Very philosophical series, one of the more interesting animes from the past decade

Sword of the Stranger - Samurai action movies with a massive budget

Black Lagoon - One of the few series from the past decade that feels like Cowboy Bebop: motley crew, lots of action, very limited animu

Detroit Metal City - Rude and crude, but in a fun way!

Planetes - Japan does hard scifi and it works!

Gankutsuou - Scifi take on Count of Monty Cristo

Darker than Black - Scifi action series featuring people with special abilities, good stuff

Everything by Satoshi Kon - Millennium Actress, Tokyo Godfathers, Paranoia Agent, and Paprika

Seirei no Moribito - Looks like Japan from about six hundred years ago, features some nice actions and a decent story and characters

Dennou Coil - post-modern cyberpunk with kids

Kuuchuu Buranko - Very weird show about a very weird psychiatrist

Ghost Hunt - It's actually a pretty good supernatural mystery show

Wolf's Rain - Scifi anime with people that can appear as wolves or humans

Witch Hunter Robin - X-Files the Anime

Haibane Renmei - Slice-of-life drama with a healthy dose of fantasy, melodrama, and learning to grow up.

FLCL - Gainax goes full-on insane and it is beautiful

Ergo Proxy - Scifi dystopia that also gets a bit weird at times

Last Exile - Steampunk scifi with airship battles

Cromatie High School - Good kid gets sent to delinquent school, rather than dramatic it is absurdly funny

Banner/Crest of the Stars - Scifi anime with lots of massive space battles

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust - Best vampire movie since Bela Lugosi

Yugo: The Negotiator - Middle East stuff

Excel Saga - Crazy comedy is crazy

Alright Mr. Gundam, here's my report of the Bandai and Gundam panels:

-nothing was announced, nothing new was shown, no info came from the panel.

A guy even asked about Origin and asked if it was going to be a tv series, oav or what.  Their answer?  "We haven't reached the stage of planning where we decide that yet, we have no information on Origin besides that we are going to animate it"

A guy asked if AGE was kiddie and they said "We wanted a gundam that kids could watch.  We wanted to expand our audience".  One guy asked if AGE was UC and they said no, which I think everyone expected.

bebpo, don't go to cons. cons are awful. last con I went to in 2004, i never felt like I ever in the wrong place as I was there.

Cons are fine, I just partied too hard last night, especially for my age.  Fuck, I drank so much.  I haven't been that drunk in years.  I'm really surprised I didn't blackout.  All throughout the night people kept handing me things to drink and I'm really bad about saying no when a cute girl takes a sip of a drink and then hands it over and says "have some of this".  I don't even know what I drank after a certain point.

The most awkward part of drunken escapades is looking at your cell phone photos from the night before ^^;  Like I found this picture taken at some hotel around 4am last night.  Your guess is as good as mine as to what is going on.  I don't recognize anybody in the picture except for the guy asleep in the middle who was cosplaying as taskmaster and part of one of the earlier groups I was hanging with.

Anyone ask about G Gundam (the best Gundam series)?

Nope.  But then there's not much to ask about besides if they're going to do blu-rays at some point.

I went to the robot faceoff panel.  It was basically a gamefaqs popularity poll except with robots.  Most of the fights were pretty one sided, but Eva 01 vs. Gunbuster was interesting.  AT field vs. 1 million lasers and all that.

At least spell my nick right :P

yeah no offense bebpo but it looks like yr partying with children

I dunno who the people in that photo were outside of 1 guy like I said.  The original group I was drinking with was one short asian 29 year old marine who was basically the leader and set the whole thing up, aka the guy with game, (got groups of girls/guys to meet up at his hotel room and had it decked out in alcohol), 2 of his buddies that seemed around the same age, 1 navy guy who was like 25 and then a bunch of girls who were 20ish.  At some point the group went to another hotel and merged with another group to get into a bigger group but then I got lost and wandered around looking for people and the photo was from around that time period.

Also, swaggaz comment about cosplay being the perfect disguise is spot on.  I didn't go in costume today, just normal nice adult clothing and the group of guys I just mentioned from last night walked right by me at one point and no one recognized me from the night before.  So yeah, cosplay has advantages.

Yeah.  And Bebpo, it might just be the way you're coming off here and in a couple of other threads, but man do you sound depressed and emo/negative about everything.  Gotta stay positive and go to the places you feel comfortable at to start meeting people.

Lyte, when I drink it usually goes like this "fun fun happy times"    :hyper -> comedown -> "depressed/emo"  :'(

I think I'm drinking a bit more often now that I'm not in school.  During school I was too busy to drink and deal with recovery the next day.  They say lawyers have the highest rate of alcoholics out of any job and that's why they make you take mandatory AA classes every few years.  Don't think I'll have a problem with that since I only drink socially, but it's an interesting statistic to think about.

No one even asked when we're getting the DVD boxsets for Turn A and 0079 TV? Nothing about "bring us Blu-ray 00 TV or we'll fucking murder you"?

edit: here we go:

The original Mobile Suit Gundam series' first half is set for a September 13 release date, while Turn A Gundam will be released this fall.

Yeah, it's cool they're both finally getting released in English but honestly I refuse to buy dvds now that bluray is mainstream. Don't want to rebuy stuff down the road.

I'm tempted to get the OO movie just to have more hd mecha action but everytime I think about watching that film again I shudder >_< where is my good gundam on bd? I'd buy OO the show if they had just released it on bd!

Picked up girl who lept through time, k-on 1&2, arakwawa boxset, katanagatari vol.1; I think at this point I probably have all the non-upscale bd anime that isn't c quality or worse.

I hope Aniplex releases Madoka in BD, because it's the only format I will buy. Though with Durarara in DVD, it seems iffy...
