He feels that this type of system would damage the premium value Nintendo's content.

On the topic of digital downloads in general, Iwata noted that the 3DS internet connection rate is far beyond that of the DS. However, it's still not at the one hundred percent satisfaction level, and furthermore, only a fraction of those people actually download paid content. He hopes that over the next three years, Nintendo will make the Nintendo e-Shop, the online shop that's accessible from the 3DS, into a larger presence. He wants this to amount to a more drastic change than something like increasing ten percent from the current five present. Additionally, Iwata said he has a great desire to create a future where players will pay for digital content just like normal with no reservations. This will be a major point for Nintendo over the next three years, said Iwata.

The dlc mechanism sounds like something third parties are asking for. I'm starting to think Nintendo needs to realise third parties will never seriously be there for them and they shouldn't let them mandate infrastructure and whatnot. Like, 3ds dlc has Scamco written all over it.

It's failing because it has no quality games out or coming in the near-future. Well maybe Layton 5 but since you know it's not out in the USA.

Yes mobile gaming has been around forever, but it has never been this advanced, there has always been a gap between it and games on handhelds. Now there are productions coming out that are just as good and good looking as games on the 3DS at least. In fact withing 1/2 years phones will be lightyears beyond the 3DS.

That's cool but that's not in Europe/US. The regions that nowadays are the main markets for videogames. The mobile market is booming in the West now.

I can still see the 3DS being a succesfull toy for kids and a niche hardcore following btw, same for Vita but then for a tech crowd (and maybe Japan only). But the west casual audience has moved on to phones.

and uh... so what? there is a final fantasy game coming on the psp,and a dragon quest spinoff and final fantasy spinoff and also what they says is an actual kingdom hearts game and not a shitty spinoff where they recycle everything (one of which also came to cellphone might i add) coming to the 3ds

square-enix is already deep in cellphone games and that didn't stop them into releasing a shitload of games on normal portable console but apparently that doesn't count unless the game has been released in western territories and it looks pretty

oh and here's a shocker,if wikipedia is to be believed that game was only published by square-enix and was instead developed by media-vision,so it's a pretty dumb example of "square-enix jumping on mobile" but i guess that game where you turns song into SRPG unit wouldn't have been the same uh?

Lots of people have been saying this for years, since the iPhone gaming boom started. But the effect is being felt now with the launch of new hardware. Also more and more people are buying smartphones, or getting them for 'free' with a plan. The need for a dedicated handheld is smaller then ever for most people and it will only continue to decline in time.

Sony and Nintendo totally missed the boat on this one, they could have put out a Nintendo Phone/PSPhone ages ago, but Sony is only now dipping into this market with a half assed attempt. Nintendo still doesn't seem to get it.

I think you're selling lot of these mobile games short as well Magus, there is enough quality and variety there for most people. Sorry if you don't like it. I hope you really enjoy this gen of handhelds cause it may be one of the last.

1. Because facebook games don't cover all genres, mobile games do. Rpg's, racers, puzzle, adventure, action, fps. Everything is there. Also to play FB games you have to be online, and not many of them have mobile versions.

2. Steam is killing PC retail, I don't know why you think otherwise. More options is good sure, but handhelds are a dying breed I think. Or at least their significance will be reduced. As I said 3DS can still be big go kids and hardcore people, like you obviously.

Nintendo convinced ppl to spend $20 on shit games like brain age instead of $40 on real games and apple took it one step further.
