I think it's possible they'll be equals eventually. Technically I think Android has the edge but profit-wise Android leaves something to be desired right now, but that can change.

Right now I can't think of a single reason* why it wouldn't sell like hot cakes when Mario Kart drops. We're talking price drop, Mario Kart, and a new color. Nintendo has basically played all their cards in one round.

Honestly, I think it will pay off, and the 3DS will manage to pull impressive numbers this holiday season, but the big question will remain whether it can sustain those SW & HW numbers or not post-Christmas, that would probably be the real litmus test.

It will once a steady stream of software arrives. If they use the Wii playbook of "one big game every year" the 3DS will fail. If it's spaced out like the DS was initially, it will work.

Also, the whole ios will be the only handheld gaming outlet in a few years is pure hyperbole because while 3ds is selling poorly, Monster Hunter still sells gangbusters in japan, Poke'mon black and white has the record for best selling Pokemon, in just the past month ds sold at least 300k units, and Japan still has a handheld gaming fixation. DQ9 sold astonishingly well.

So let's put aside this doom and gloom and just ride this out with some awesome fucking games.

My point was that the article comes as "It's all over! Sell your stocks now because the company is DOOOOOOOOMED!!11!!1" when they've been at this for a very long time and have done really well at it for just as long. They've had missteps in the past, any number of them and they're all well-documented, but they have a habit of sticking around [and still remaining highly profitable, sometimes moreso than they're successful competitors] through those lean years.

I foresee another slump cycle for Nintendo [ala the N64/Gamecube era], but I don't think they need to start releasing their game on iOS to survive. Just, you know, release some 3DS games that people actually care about. That would be a nice start.

Seems only 10 minutes ago that the call was that 3DS was suffering because iOS/Smartphones are popular and, likewise, Vita is doomed because of iOS and the cheap 3ds (so automatically predicting the 3DS will recover instantly and now be a smash hit (!) ). The idea that Nfigs don't want to toy with is that the 3DS is a failure and it's not going to recover. IF that happens, then what? Apparently putting portable games on the iOS is still a bad idea and they should, lol, put out another handheld asap to address the 3DS failings! NICE JOB GUYS!!!

Investors don't give a shit that things have been great in the past if the current road map to profits looks like it's driving into the grand canyon. Nintendo have got this badly wrong right now.

Wish Chaos Rings would at least come to Android (which I don't really find too much exciting in terms of games). I hate touch controls for games, give me a gamepad any day of the week... action games and platformers are horrific without accurate and precise controls... this is why I'm so opposed to cellphone gaming for most genres.

yeah, you can post a couple outliers that disprove me, but on the whole, JRPGs are the easiest genre.  They're just a long grind, campy, and have the worst stories and characters ever, that's why everybody hates them. 

anywhoo, chaos rings is great...basically S-E going back to their PS1 days, though Chaos Rings is definitely full of copy-pasted everything to deal with hw limitations.  There's a sequel but I haven't tried it.

The only way to keep your Ambassador status would be to wait until the firmware update that allows 3DS-to-3DS system data transferring, and do that before selling it.
