He beat Daigo AND Poongko (who I expected to be the new champ) back to back. Don't choke on fuckin Fuudo. Latif vs. Poongko should've been the grand finals.

The final was kinda anti-hype since Fuudo steamrolled, but pretty much every other match was excellent. Great tourney overall. Too bad both Daigo and Mago choked.

Poongko would've been the best champion ever and it would've been great to see someone from the US win, but I'm still happy that EVO is no longer the Daigo show.

That makes me feel a tad better, but yeah agreed on the final two matches being anticlimactic.

Poongko's Seth was insane, shit was like playing computer Seth with perfect timing and reads.  Really surprised he didn't make it to the finals, but I think he would have had a better chance of taking down Fuudo.

Anyway this was the best match at EVO:

What killed Poongko against Fuudo was his completely unnecessary DP. Fuudo had like 10% health, and he had 60-70%. He didn't have meter to FADC, and after it got blocked he was finished. He should've slowed down and played safe, but I guess that's not how Poongko rolls.

Seth is absolutely all or nothing.  Not playing predictably safe - normal safe, not Poongko invading-your-brainwaves "safe" - is part of what makes it so effective and is exactly how he gets away with SO MUCH.

Against Fuudo, he did what he was doing the entire rest of the tournament and Fuudo just caught his number at exactly the right moment.  IIRC, the round after he got punished by that big U1, he did slow it down a bit and was noticably struggling with the change of pace.

He totally dropped the ball against Latif, though.  So much damage lost trying to reversal cross-up burn kicks - same thing that dropped Daigo.

I was asking myself the exact same question during the tournament. They're probably trying to bribe them into including Undisputed next year. I remember hearing about them trying to this year.

Edit: Fucking demi and his google.

Ah, thanks. That doesn't seem like the kind of game that the EVO crowd would embrace or even consider.

I'm still convinced that the inclusion of MK in this year's lineup, well before it was released, was pretty shady too. Maybe they're open to bribes.

It worked for Mortal Kombat, I could definitely see them expanding their lineup. Why would you deny more revenue?

Marvel vs Capcom 3 was announced for EVO prior to release, too.  I don't think it took much of a stretch of the imagination to say that both of those games would be immensely popular.  And they've certainly showcased MUCH worse games at EVO in years past.

Undisputed isn't a traditional fighting game in any respect - I don't know what THQ is thinking.  The FGC would never pick it up.

The difference is, Marvel 3 came from a developer with a track record for making tournament worthy fighting games. If they announced that SF x Tekken would be part of EVO 2012, I doubt anyone would bat an eye. MK on the other hand was coming from a studio that hasn't made a fighting game worth shit in around 15 years. I'm not saying the new MK is a bad game or that it shouldn't have been part of EVO, but announcing it would be part of the event before anyone had even played it sounds kinda eh to me.

Cross Counter post-EVO interview with Fuudo.  He makes an interesting claim here: that he has the quickest reactions of any player in Japan.

The Madcatz ad at the end is hilarious.  :lol
