Eh, I wouldn't write it off just yet.  It depends on when and how the next xbox launches and if third parties bother to take the Nintendo platform seriously this time , but Nintendo has their stable of successful staples to string it along (which to no surprise is one of the abscences effecting the 3ds reception).  I will say they can't depend on the novelty factor so much as they did before.  I'd have to think the 3ds fiasco will teach them a thing or two about software/hardware prices too, but then again Steel Diver is still 40fuckindollarsgawdammit

I was at a Best Buy the other day.  The 3DS section had been moved to the back of the video game area and had a step ladder covering most of it up.  Meanwhile, the regular DS systems and games were prominently displayed in the front. 

It was just like the 360 in Japan.

they've already DECIDED on the 3DS - a resounding DO NOT WANT. So why would they be thinking that? I'm sure it's either "want Vita!" or "... don't give a shit , same as i did with the 3DS". There is no one-or-the-other.

I did think it would make the 3DS more comfortable to use  :'(  but reaching to the face buttons will suck, and more so trying to use the touch screen with your thumb. 

I tried playing one of the NES games and good lord using the d-pad is unwieldy.  I was about to order a separate grip on Amazon, also because normal slidepad games aren't comfortable.  Might as well just get this if it's not too expensive or bundled with monster hunter.

They're going to unveil a NEW DS, not a new 3DS per se..... a NEW DS.

It's going to be called DSXL++ or something similar. It'll have the DS XL form factor, but with the 3DS controls + a second analogue stick and the ability to play 3DS games but only in 2D. It will have Wifi built in. It might add back in GBA compatability via slot. "Large" internal storage (16gig)

Ignoring the hardware mishaps, the holiday software releases are anything but depressing in Japan. They're literally firing on all cylinders (off the top of my head: MK, SM3D, MHTriG, Love Plus, and Inazuma 11). So I have a hard time imagining anything but a triumphant 3DS next quarter. If they somehow find a way to mess this up, then there is literally no hope for this system, because I highly doubt they can replicate this line up any time soon.

It's been reported/circulating on a few websites (very recently) now that team working on it has the add-on in studio. That coupled with the delay could possibly accommodate for that. I can't link any of them because they have the scans there in the same story.

We'll know all for sure when the conference happens. I just happen to think it seems more likely than not, especially given the overwhelming complaints about the PW control scheme.
