There is no market for a handheld gaming device aimed primarily at adult hardcore gamers in North America.  None.  What little there was has been eaten by smartphones.

I like how they've tried to get around this by giving you the same experiences as smart phones and home consoles without any of the advantages.

So if I get a Vita I'm getting Minna No Golf and Ridge Racer at launch. This feels so fresh :heart

Doesn't that belong in the Flatout-no-it's-really-ridge-racer thread?

I'm still down for getting a Vita.

I don't think there is a question that this thing will bomb.  I'm just in it for the PS2/PS3 era ports that I missed out on or haven't played for a while and I'm sure Falcom will put out a few good titles.  The PSP is chock full of underappreciated gems and if Vita is even half of what the PSP resulted in in terms of quality late stage software, I'll have no problem with the Vita.

news on battery, memory and 3G pricing has pushed this out to 'hardware revamp' stage for me I think. I like the idea of Ninja Gaiden Sigma on a handheld though :drool

they announced remote play for it.  not totally confirmed, but sounding like any PS3 game can be streamed and played on the Vita.  supposedly they showed Killzone 3.

PSP remote play only worked with specific games like Bionic Commando Rearmed and Lair

the case is supposedly around the same size as a DS case (thinner but slightly taller)

also, in addition to remote play, they showed off Wii U functionality with the Vita acting as a controller for the PS3.

I'm guessing backpad is used for L2/3 and R2/3

unless MGS HD Edition means MGS1

But that's why it's the PlayStation Port-able...

Wait... That's why it's the PlayStation Vita-able...

I got nothin'.

Two days later and I'm still boggled by their memory stick prices.

I know that I'm going to buy 3 instead of 1 down the road, but the issue goes beyond of what I'm personally able to afford; DD adoption will be considerably smaller compared to a scenario where they pack one (even a measly 2 giger). This will ultimately screw pubs and devs, especially indies, thus harming the overall support and digital business. I just don't understand it. It goes against what this device is supposed to stand for.

I know all the usual excuses for propriety route, but realistically speaking, how much cost or security concerns would equipping the Vita with a 2GB internal flash memory actually cause? The Gopher had 16!

I guess its dependent on how fast the SDHC card is but, on average, they seemed to be priced at $50 for a 32GB card. I'm sure you could get a 64GB SDHC card cheaper than what Sony has priced their 32GB card. Such a large markup must really help with that Vita price point.

Bingo.

Making hardware, apparently adding even 50¢ to the base hardware cost can bring the retail cost up into a whole different bracket.

It has some internal memory(firmware),larger chip(s) would make board larger and that affects everything. Not to mention the money they can get from selling standalone cards(retailers too)
Probably a combination of both.

Big mistake for a "next gen" portable

if they want to sell dd content they absolutely need standardized storage solution.

No doubt that here will be revision with inbuilt storage, but still...bad bad bad

Yeah, I'm sure it has everything to do with keeping production costs down, recouping hardware losses and/or getting profits off the Vita business. I haven't considered the possibility of board size or distribution or space, though.

I guess it all comes down to how fast the costs of the system goes down, as I can't see them budging on stick prices before then. Considering the internals of Vita, it shouldn't take as long as their previous devices. I just hope it goes down fast enough before it causes much harm.

yeah, that's the one thing nintendo did right with the 3ds, they knew they were gonna be pumping out roms on the eshop and stuffing a convenient 2GB card in the box would lead to a lot of impulse buys

I'm glad they're thinking ahead about it. I'd gladly take an external third party USB thumb adapter, regardless of how much juice it'll contribute, over something as big as that. But to be fair, that looks like a "portable charger" not an "external battery peripheral" which he already stated is in the planning stage(?).

I just went back to the PDF after reading that comic, I didn't pay attention to the wording before. :lol

For some reason I was under the impression that 3 hours is the worst case scenario without network play, which is in the PSP's ballpark, but now I realize that the 3-5h estimate is given under these restrictions: type of game, all networks off, headphones on, and "default brightness" (betting it's lvl 3 out of).

Uncharted with 3G on, full brightness, and speakers sound will be joke material for years to come!
