No Ninja Gaiden fan ever expected this game to be good in the first place tho. Team Ninja Dog has always been a joke.

Alma, Doku, Zedonius, Alexei, Volf, and Elizebet are in the game (Genshin should be as well). So even if the boss fights in the campaign suck, there should be some good ones in mission mode.

Might as well rehash some good boss fights if you can't make any yourself. Good work, Rehayashi.

At least the claws and scythe will be free. I don't think they've announced any other weapons yet, but it'd be pretty fucked up if they started charging for weapons that were already in NG2. (which is probably what they're going to do)

Can DmC get lower than a 3.0?  Only time will tell.

Although God Hand also got a 3.0 from IGN so NG3 = God Hand?  ;)

I'm almost done with day 2 (playing on hard - which isn't hard at all). The game isn't too bad so far; the combat still flows pretty well and the dragon sword has a fairly large move list (lots of moves are locked until you get upgrades), but it still feels really limited and dumbed down in comparison to NG2. And I still can't believe that there's only one weapon.

I guess my first impressions are that this is Ninja Gaiden Lite. Or babby's first Ninja Gaiden. something like that.

the framerate is pretty shitty btw.

Just finished my Hard playthrough. Pretty much everything I said before still applies, but what really hurts this game is the complete lack of variety. On paper, there are lots of different enemies, but damn near all of them are humanoids, so most of the battles play out the same with some minor variations. There are a few fiend-type enemies, but you're fighting humans probably 90% of the time so they don't make much of a difference. And even that wouldn't be so bad if you had more than one god damn weapon. I'm already starting to get tired of the repetition, which is pretty ridiculous because the previous games can stay fun for hundreds of hours.

The game is okay though. Basically, it's a decent action game, but a bad Ninja Gaiden game. I will say that I liked it more than I thought I would, but my expectations for this game couldn't have been any lower, so that's not really saying much at all. Gonna take a little break and start my Master Ninja playthrough next.

And the Hard difficulty achievement doesn't stack with the Normal and Easy achievements, but apparently you get the Easy achievement for clearing the game on Normal. Why. (I think you can reload the last checkpoint and lower the difficulty to get the achievements anyway, I just thought that was stupid enough to point out.)

What the fuck happened here? I know titigaki left, but surely they could have handed the reins to someone SLIGHTLY competent at Team Ninja. It sounds like Tecmo handed game design over to the guys who developed FFXIV.

Tragic... but one important question remains:

Lol, NG3 is not 3/10 bad. People are just giving it stupidly low scores to try and make a point about how much the game has been dumbed down. It's still better than pretty much every western action game (which isn't really saying anything), and all of those generally get 7s or 8s (or 9s for GoW).

Actually, NG3 feels like a Japanese developer trying to make a western action game.

Regardless, DOA has a hell of a lot more room for improvement than Ninja Gaiden ever did. NG is the pinnacle of an entire genre, while DOA has always been a second-rate series. It probably won't ever be able to compete with the major 3D fighters, but there's still a lot they can do with it.

I always thought Dimensions was basically a port/remix of older DoA titles and it's not like they did much to it.  Sort of like DoA Sigma.  DoA 5 otoh is an actual new game, although it'll probably just be DoA4 Sigma with some new stuff (some good, some bad).

What's good about it?

I can't really come up with a list of positives, because the game is worse than the other Ninja Gaidens in pretty much every single way (this includes the story). But being a bad Ninja Gaiden doesn't make it a bad game - like I said, it's still a decent action game on its own because the combat is still fun. The lack of variety hurts the game a lot, but I still can't see any possible scale where a 3/10 would make any sense at all. Not even if you're only comparing to the absolute best games in the genre.

And I've worked on games IGN has given better scores than 3 that are in no way better than Ninja Gaiden.  It's a "hey gimme some hits" score.

Let's not forget the infamus Gaming-Age "C-" Ninja Gaiden score.

What's good about it?

You don't have all of the moves right at the start, there are two upgrades that unlock more (press back to see the move list). Although I wish you did have all of the moves at the start, because the YYY combo owns.

The slide only launches weakened enemies into the air as well (you can tell if they are weak if their clothes are covered in blood), which you can finish with a combo or a steel on bone attack. I like the slide in this game, I actually think it's the one good addition.

I don't mind the UT and ninpo changes either. UTs accumulate over the course of the battle, so you can't chain them back to back to back to demolish everything in sight - a lot of times it's best to save it for enemies that are hard to kill or have lots of health. Same goes for ninpo, except it has the bonus of healing you depending on how many enemies you kill with it. (there are no potions or health-increasing items)

Certainly doesn't sound that great and you even say to play NG2 instead in your Youtube video summary.  So what would you score it?

Right now, I'd probably give it a high 6 or a low 7. It's definitely not great, but I still need to play through mission mode before really judging it. The game will get a little better once the claws and scythe comes out tho, if only because it won't be as repetitive.

I don't know why they're continuing with costumes in DOA. If there's any series that should have character customization like VF, Tekken, and SC, it's DOA. But I'll take more VF guest characters.

I'm not trying to spin, I just think the game is alright. I'll probably have enough fun going for 100% completion, but I doubt I'll ever go back to it over any of the other games in the series.

Lol at the guy begging for his life as you slowly walk up to him, then for all that there's no player decision. Such emotional depth! Game looks alright though, do they not beg for their lives on Master Ninja? Because that was one of the most off putting things for me in the previews I saw, soldiers were always begging for their lives before you sliced 'em up which felt really anti NG - i.e. even in the first stage on the lowest difficulty of NG2 you cut off dudes limbs and they'll keep coming at you to self detonate.

I've only seen the enemies beg for their lives a couple times now, between both of my playthroughs. I'm not sure if there's a way to trigger it or something, but it seems pretty rare to me. Maybe it happens more often on lower difficulties?

Lol at the guy begging for his life as you slowly walk up to him, then for all that there's no player decision.

But there is player decision! You can either hit X and kill him immediately, or you can wait for the X button to pop up on screen, telling you to kill him. lol.

Is this how am I supposed to play? Just flying swallow and Izuna drop?

This game reeks of shitty Japanese design where enemies take 20 slashes just to kill them. I miss dismembering these fuckers. ITAGAKI SAMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

Seriously though, limb removal/dismembering was so much fun and strategic at the higher difficulties in NG2.
