Khan, why aren't you looking at California? I thought UCSC and Berkeley were supposed to be top notch for CS. Am I living in the past here as well?

Cali would have been my first choice of destination, regardless of school, had it not been for the high cost of living. Rent alone would dry up my scholarship's allowance, and I'm not about to ask for money.

I must admit I only really skimmed the entire thread and probably cannot help but have you also looked into community/junior college options? I've known some people who can get here on that, take all the basic courses there (saving money and getting "established") and then transfer up to a university. (If you can't get into or want to delay picking a specific university.)

I can't speak to your situation or others, but as one example, I knew a girl from Syria who had a "can only pick one school" option and she did a community college for a year or so and used that to bump up into a university since she had a bunch of paperwork by that point.

Sorry if this doesn't help in anyway, dealing with international students is just a stupid hassle it need not be. Mostly because some morons wanted to take some flight classes a decade ago.

If I read the entire thread wrong.  :-[

As to another question, yes, all of America is like under the boardwalk in Jersey. Homeless guys humping everywhere.

No, you're not reading it wrong. I personally know a lot of people who did exactly that, so it's definitely a viable option. But I'm considering it a backup plan, in case the school I applied to rejects my application, so it's already been discussed.

The reason I'm resistant to going through with that first is because I'm tired of transferring. I've already been in two different schools, studying two completely different majors, so the prospect of "two more school" on the road to a bachelor degree is not sitting well with me right now. I'm yearning for some stability.

That actually makes more than complete sense then, I had read it as you just wanted to get here to start the full "four-year" university part. My daily bias probably. If you have that background, yeah, it's just jumping through more useless hoops.

Don't mean to come off condescending but it's great you consider it an if needed backup, way too many people just dismiss it as beneath them and it hurts them not anyone else. (The barely escaped high school, a college degree in English/Business will guarantee me a job types!)

Sorry, I just see too many people every day wasting money and time on gallivanting about my college in a panic so I gravitate towards the logical plan even when I run into a smart person.  :lol

I never went to advisers and crap because the university gave out this book with all the classes you needed to take and it was online as well. And you just went down the list. I hadn't understood just how difficult it was to follow a list until I worked with students on what they needed to get their degree.

But I'm rambling about things nobody cares about!

Shah, why are you against asking for money?  Use all your options.

Yea Shah, if you're gonna come to America, act like an American. Debt :bow

If the situation calls for it, I'll definitely ask for money, but it seems unfair to pick Cali over the rest, and be in constant need of financial support, just to have a good time and live the wink life. The only way I'd relocate there is if I find a much better school willing to accept me.
