That actually makes more than complete sense then, I had read it as you just wanted to get here to start the full "four-year" university part. My daily bias probably. If you have that background, yeah, it's just jumping through more useless hoops.
Don't mean to come off condescending but it's great you consider it an if needed backup, way too many people just dismiss it as beneath them and it hurts them not anyone else. (The barely escaped high school, a college degree in English/Business will guarantee me a job types!)
Sorry, I just see too many people every day wasting money and time on gallivanting about my college in a panic so I gravitate towards the logical plan even when I run into a smart person.

I never went to advisers and crap because the university gave out this book with all the classes you needed to take and it was online as well. And you just went down the list. I hadn't understood just how difficult it was to follow a list until I worked with students on what they needed to get their degree.
But I'm rambling about things nobody cares about!
