Just started playing the campaign last night I'm in the middle of act III. I wasn't really feeling it at all in the beginning. IMO the entire first act was a complete bore but it picked up some in the second and so far the third is balls out amazing. I hope it stays this good.
Glad to know. Act 1 was pretty bad; really awful pacing problems. I'm on Act 2.5 now and it has been good, Gears 2 quality stuff.
Now that I finished it, Act 1 is definitely the weakest link out of the bunch. I'm kind of going back and forth on whether or not the campaign is better than Gears 2. It doesn't have the variety that Gears 2 had and has fewer set piece battles but the overall combat and the enviornments in Gears 3 are definitely a step up and I'm sure it'll play even better during co-op. I still don't give a shit about the Gears story but that's what I'm playing these games for anyway.
And yeah, how 'bout that Body Count song during the credits?
Ice-T can write some lyrics.
yeah, I don't know if I like it more than Gears 2 or my tastes have changed after playing so many cover based shooters since then. Still, the campaign was great. Too easy on the hardest setting available. I guess it's because there are always three others with you that you're not as important or something. Will get into Horde and Beast mode tomorrow. Not really interested in regular multiplayer for some reason. I really liked Gears 1, Gears 2 was busted early on and never came back, and right now I just want to be playing Battlefield 3.
objectives got pretty annoying with "wait, go do this first before you can advance." In Act 4 I remember

reaching that wire cart thing to transport the fuel and I thought "this fucking thing is going to breakdown or some shit and I'm gonna fight another wave of locust or flood before I can continue." Sure enough, the cart is held back by a wire, so go cut that first. Uh oh, enemies are in the way!
Granted, Gears 3 is a journey while Gears 2 was GETTING SHIT DONE.
The AIs from both friendlies and enemies weren't great. One fight in the game was like the three stooges with Guy A running into acid, dying; Guy B runs in to save him, dies by acid; Guy A eventually crawls out of acid, Guy C runs to rescue, succeeds, both run back into acid and fall down.
And yeah, it seems like co-op is really the standout feature of Gears 3. Gears 2 added a lot to the core mechanics from Gears 1. There wasn't a whole lot different from Gears 2 in Gears 3.
