Dancing
« on: October 04, 2011, 03:27:37 AM »
is fucking hard!  :lol

When the beats of your steps are different from the beats of the song, it's like SONG WHY YOU THROW OFF MY RHYTHM, JERK  :maf
It feels like hardcore multi-tasking, remembering the beats, the steps, what move your actually doing, and then also kind of hey looking at the person in front of you.

But it's pretty fun!

I was out planning on minature golfing and I sent an invite to golf with a friend and they were like NO, COME HERE AND DO WEST SWING DANCE CLUB and I was like ...ok, I'm down.

So I get there 20 mins late and the first thing she says to me is "hahaha, you are going to look like such a pedophile in there" and I'm like "Fffffuuu what have you gotten me into, girl?!?!" and walk in and it's all these kids who have to be at least 18 since it's on a college campus but fuck if they don't all look like kids full of acne and tiny and here I am walking in and still wearing my work clothes with a black dress shirt and nice shoes on and a HEY I'M 30 GRISLY FACE (my friend is 24/25 but she looks 21 so she fits in).  Yikes.

I didn't even feel embarrassed that everyone else sort of knew how to dance and it was my first time doing a dance lesson EVER so I was crap.  I'm too old to care and just enjoy the fun of the dancing while probably looking like an idiot.  I did feel a LITTLE awkward about being the old man in the room.  We had to keep switching partners so I'd meet and dance with all the girls and it was weird for sure.  But I got better at the actual dancing as time went on and had a lot of fun.  I'm thinking about joining the club and going regularly with my friend and this group of kids and not giving a fuck about the I'm an old man bit.

Also I probably could have picked a more beginner friendly type of dance as my first dance than Swing Dancing.  There is a LOT OF MOTION and SPINNING AND STEPPING right off the bat in swing and it's REALLY FAST  :lol

I may have found a new hobby

Swing dancing is awesome. Keep with it. You might be able to use it on a date someday.

I'd recommend adding salsa to your repertoire as well.
Bleh.  Swing is fun, but salsa is fucking nonsense.  I hate it.  If he gets confused with swing, salsa will probably fuck him in the ass and call him Mary.  If you're stepping into Latin dancing, go for Bachata or Merengue first.  Both are so much easier than salsa and it'll help you nail the style first.  Salsa is VERY frustrating.

Swing dancing is a great skill to have, and So Cal swing dancing gatherings are great places to get laid.

I can't really dance, either. Trying goes a long way with most women.

This.

Most guys can't dance.

PROTIP: No-one actually cares. Just giving a little effort and not being a chickenshit, afraid of looking like a dork is more important.

The toughest part for me personally, which I got a lot of comments on, was my stiffness.  Very robotic with a lot of pauses as I'm thinking of the next move to lead on (and trying to remember how to do the moves in the first place).

I think I'd be much better at dancing after a few beers.  Loosened up and less thinking, more moving should be an improvement.

Yeah, I'm not afraid of dancing and looking like a doofus at all.  Don't really care what people think.  But it's less "I've got nerves of steel confidence" and more "total apathy concerning how people think of me".

I've never danced in my life, unless I count slow dancing with my grandma at my uncle's wedding years ago. I doubt I could even pull it off

let's get one thing clear. being black does not mean you know how to dance. a lot of the dances I went to when I was younger, mostly with black people, were real bad. dudes sitting in a corner, against a wall while all the girls dance. either that or dry hump dancing. grind dancing is good for masking one's inability to actually dance so most black dudes do that.

i'd say that on average men struggle with dancing more than women no matter the race.

but boy, if alcohol is involved, everyone can join in!
