THREE DESTINIES WILL FORM HISTORY

Just watched episode 13. Not bad. G-Exes is one sexy mech, especially with double beam sabers.

Was a pretty good ep. Although it totally followed the DBZ conventions for how a battle unfolds.

The Yurin/Flit stuff was getting really creepy though. Glad that's the end of it. Pink haired girl was useless once again but at least they're not shoving it in our faces like Marina in 00.

Will be interesting what kind of revelations there are next ep.

Huh, I figured they would've wrapped up this generation with episode 14. Looks like we'll get some badass Gundam vs. Mobile Armor action next week.

I really hope the revelation isn't

Hmmm, catching up.  Ep11 wasn't bad.  So that's 2eps in row that have been solid!  When the show is at its best it feels kind of like a Turn A for a younger generation.

Diva upgrade looks pretty cool.  Like a real Gundam ship.  Photon Beam Cannon seems REALLY POWERFUL.  I'm kind of wondering if this isn't the strongest ship in a Gundam yet.

Also, why does every support mecha that isn't Flit's Gundam or the Zaku-clones look like they are grunts from Gaogaigar?

Sounds good.  I want BDs in the US :(

Quote
You know, AGE, outside of the terrible civil war colony arc, is decently made.  Much more professional and less facepalm than Destiny or OO S2.

HOWEVER

The show does not have a single original idea.  It's the most creatively bankrupt Gundam ever and that's really annoying.  How many times are we going to REMAKE 0079?!?  Jeez.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Yurin - Lala, Asteroid Base -> end of 0079, BIG ZAM (but shittier looking) -> chase on foot.

Then the plot is stolen straight out of Nadesico.  I mean come on, the stupid time travel fake spoilers were better than just a straight Nadesico rip.  WOLF EVEN PICKS UP THE LOCKET WHICH IS GOING TO HAVE THE PHOTO OF A MARTIAN GIRL THAT HE FALLS IN LOVE WITH NEXT SEASON.  Come on!  You can't rip off a better show PLOT DEVICE BY PLOT DEVICE.  It's insulting.
[close]

On top of that the 15ep format with the standard slow Gundam pacing did not work.  A lot happens by the end, yet it feels super rushed and there is no emotional attachment to anything going on in the finale.
spoiler (click to show/hide)
When Yurin dies, it's empty KIND OF LIKE LALA, because there wasn't enough build up in her arc.  Plus, well, her taking the stab was just kind of generic.
[close]

And again, EVERYTHING has been done before.  Flower bits?  Done.  A Psychoframe that gives pseudo-newtype powers to non-newtypes?  Been done.  Kids who think war is FUN because they are brain damaged?  Done before!  Hino is a really weak writer.

So next season what we already know will happen:
spoiler (click to show/hide)
-Desil comes back as the "char" of the series, as an adult ACE fighter with an obsession with Flit.

-Son of the base leader comes back for REVENGE.

-Wolf will meet the martian girl in the locket.
[close]

Which is a pretty cliche/trope/terrible start already.

They should just do Season 2 like this to at least throw people off:
spoiler (click to show/hide)
Flit has become an insane maniac whose spent his life obsessed with building bigger and stronger weapons to destroy the UE and kill every last one of them.  With control of the Federation Fleet he's lost his humanity and eventually becomes a major villain of the series.

Wolf has become the leader of the rebel army that doesn't trust the ever growing evil federation and after breaking Grodek out and re-uniting the crew of the Diva snoops further and further into Federation's dark secrets, eventually teaming up with a faction of the Martians that are trying to find a peaceful resolution to the on-going war.

something something SEED/Star Wars/etc... :P
[close]

Anyhow, the music in the show was nice.  That's the best thing I can say about Season 1.  The mecha designs for the main gundam and Diva were ok, but all the support mechs were like gaogaigar grunt rejects :|  The final boss mech was reaaaally bad design.  It doesn't even make SENSE logically

Anime is a super grey area like emulation on the internet.  Everyone knows 99.9% of everyone discussing either is pirating, but by not acknowledging the fact that anyone is, the whole subject of piracy is avoided.

I am neither for or against piracy in either of the above cases.  I do understand however that in both of the above cases, most of the time it's the only means for people to even watch/play the content and I support globally unrestricted media where anyone anywhere in the world can enjoy entertainment no matter where it is produced and when it is produced.

AGE-2 ep1 was not bad.  It definitely has a more mature feeling to it.  Feels close to a Gundam featuring kids like V or SEED and not Chibi/SD-Gundam like AGE-1 felt.  If they keep this up, maybe AGE-3 will be a legit older teenager UC Gundam.

Is AGE-2 Gundam itself just an add-on to the existing AGE-1 gundam or a whole different suit?  I can't tell.  Is the story going to be that the AGE-1 gundam keeps upgrading itself over 100 years until it's bulky full armor ZZ Gundam by the end of AGE-3?

The Japanese blu-ray release will have English subtitles.

Probably won't buy, too expensive. Gundam UC is one thing for 6 volumes at Japanese prices, but I can't justify a ~20 volume series at $50 a pop.

Episode 16 was awesome!

Couple things.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
1. How long had Flit kept the Gundam in the barn? He's only 40, not like he can no longer pilot it.

2. Flit is either going to be a crazy bad guy or he'll die at some point. The parent's of main Gundam characters always die or go nuts.
