Well, while there's substantial overlap in that demographic, the one year I worked at faire in college, there's also very limited interaction across the two subcultures. There's SCA, who I think are basically roleplaying a medieval overlay on our modern lives, with lords, counts, barons, and such, and practice with weapons in war-like style as part of their roleplaying... and then there are faire-geeks, who run around speaking like pirates and scoffing at the idea of bearing arms in a Renaissance England re-creation.

There's a group of SCA duders that fight at the park and ride near my house during the warmer months. I can see them from the kitchen window.

I have respect for them, they beat down a mugger once. Guy jumped out of the shadows and tried to attack this woman walking home. Before you knew it, the guy was surrounded by all these boffers wailing on him with their "swords."

First thing I thought of was the guy who was bummed about having a daughter. Have no fears dads, you can roleplay Oblivion with your daughters! as long as you don't bruise them of course
