Yeah where's the superstar voice actor? Oblivion had Patrick Stewart and FO3 had Liam Neeson.

To be fair, there's no Capt. Picard voice acting but other than that it's a clear improvement all the way around.

But it does have THE DEVIL [Max von Sydow].

I'm sorry I enjoy games to know their childrens entertainment products and not deep mystical theological explorations into the mystery of the vast nordic north. ~~

 ???

Fallout New Vegas took itself very seriously despite it's hilarious moments, it's a damn insight into socio-political conflict, the nature of war itself and fucking hegelian dialectic.   I don't see the issue with Bethesda trying to do the same on a larger level, they HAVE the talent somewhere... between the Dark Brotherhood and the Pitt, they have good writers

bored to tears with oblivion

I loved morrowind, loved fallout 3 and new vegas...will I like this one?

yeah dude, this game is the sequel to Morrowind when it comes to those Elder Scrolls things like creating an interesting, hand crafted living world for you to chop wood in,  and also get huge wood from.

Just did Azura's quest and not only did I get her awesome artifact but I got a Glass Dagger (off an enemy) in the process. Oh and "Silent Roll" part of the Sneak perk tree is fucking BOSS. I can sneak roll in (to catch up to an enemy) while remaining undetected. This allows me to use the 15x damage with my dagger in sneak more easily. If needed I can do this in a room with multiple enemies and sneak roll out if its timed right.

Also found a Detect Life spell which I've found to be almost essential for a sneaking character. Its good to know whats around the corner if going in blind.

On another note, Illusion seems to be have been nerfed into something for manipulating people. You used to be able to cast Invisibility (which was awesome for getting through well lit areas as a thief). I may go with Alteration instead (which has Detect Life, Water Breathing etc). I'm level 21 right now.

Archery gets so baller. 74 base damage with 22 shock and 11 magic damage. With a tank partner being a damage sponge when things get hairy I'm basically unstoppable.

Equipping companions is a bit odd. I use my companion as my mule and she' supposed to be a tank but she often decks herself out with odd gear choices. Wizard shit.

Skyrim: The Digital Foundry Verdict

So to round up, this is a valiant overall effort by Bethesda at delivering a bewilderingly huge fantasy game to three platforms, each of varying technical strengths and weaknesses. But, despite their best and most well-meaning efforts at achieving parity on both consoles, we can confirm that the 360 does command a clear advantage over the PS3 when it comes to both image quality and performance. Even with the PS3's mandatory install, the geometry pop-in in certain areas is more distracting than it is on Microsoft's platform, and the light blur introduced by its post-processing tends to affect the clarity of the image as a whole.

For those lucky enough to be multi-platform owners, the 360 version also comes recommended for its more stable frame-rate. With that being said, they're both perfectly acceptable taken on their own terms, and the core of Skyrim's complex open-world design remains entirely intact on each. However, the save game issue on PS3 remains a concern and we'll continue to carry on playing there in order to see if its manifestation necessitates a blog update.

Quote
Speaking of controller response, it's worth mentioning that players of the PS3 version are reporting an increase in controller latency once save files reach a certain size (the established estimate being 5.5MB). This also proved to be an issue in previous Bethesda titles for the console, harking all the way back to the days of Oblivion, which makes it all the more surprising a patch hasn't come to save the day yet.

tl;dr
360 wins,PS3 framerate goes to shit once your save game reaches certain size

Do you have something boosting your heavy armor stat? If the number is green, that means it's being temporarily boosted, but upgrades still rely on your base stat.

Yea, it's green. Thanks.

What good is a boost to the level? I thought the levels were only good for opening perks, and perks were the not contributors to your stats. Do incremental level gains improve stats as well?

Every time i finish a dungeon and we exit it, Lydia will say "Ooooo a cave... i wonder what's inside"

she doesn't say it when we go in. only when we're coming out.

also she also always "has a bad feeling about this" and "has never seen anything like this" before.

she's my little confused walking item container :heart

Discovered in a neat little feature:

If you commit a crime and someone witnesses it, you immediately receive a bounty for your capture. But, if you kill the witness, the bounty is wiped away. It only works if the guards haven't be alerted yet, of course.

not entirely true. there was no bounty, but accidentally waxing osmund (a companion from winterhold college) got me INSTANTLY suspended from the campus, and i had to track down some old duff and pay him a fine

fuckin' academic bureaucrats. A DWEMER SPIDER KILLED HIM and i'm sticking to that story. nobody saw a thing. nobody that LIVED, at any rate.

came across an unkillable npc today -- the jester south of Whiterun. Helped repair his carriage then stole his horse, starts chasing after me. Dude cowers when his health is depleted but won't die, then he recovers and starts attacking me again. Crazy invincible jester.

playing as a two-handed greatsword wielding Breton. summoning a flame atronach as support, then casting stoneflesh on myself and charging in. Using archery a lot as well.

managed to get two wooden masks (and new shouts) by cheesing two of those powerful skeleton wizard guys with my bow (hiding behind geometry where I can't get hit by their projectiles), i think i was level 11 or something when I took out the first one, Voslung. took about 120 iron arrows for him to go down, but it was worth it.

one of the masks lets me breath underwater and gives a 20% discount in all shops, the other makes lockpicks 20% easier to unlock and archery 20% more powerful

Great Rumbler's 30-Hour Report

This thread stands as a testament to Bethesda's willingness to, despite the rave reviews for Oblivion, to listen to complaints from its fans and to take a peak at what the mod community is doing and then respond by making changes to the next entry in the series. And I've seen this for myself after having played Skyrim for just over 30 hours. It's pulled me in, it's grabbed onto me, and I see little that will convince me it intends to let go anytime soon. Okay, so, a lot's changed since Oblivion, but what's the most important change?

Bethesda made it FUN to adventure, to explore. The player isn't diving into the same two or three ruins and caves over and over, each dungeons and each ruin and each cave has a unique feel to it and many of them have unique bosses at their deepest depths. But it's not just the dungeons, the world itself feels more natural and more alive. There are wild animals that roam the plains and tundra of Skyrim, always fleeing when you come near. At night, fireflies drift through the air accompanied by the distant howls of wolves. Giant dragons can appear anywhere in the world space, even in towns and forts, forcing you and the townfolk and guards into battle. And the characters actually look more like real people. The writing's sharped, the voice actors are more varied. All these things play a role in pulling the player into the game. It's not a single feature that makes the difference, it's a focus on building a world from top to bottom that the player wants to see every part of, do every quest, talk to every NPC, and find the best items.

So, hats off, Bethesda, you've raised the bar not just for yourselves and Elder Scrolls series, but for the entire industry in delivering a wealth of compelling content in a single, $60 package.
