I still keep getting messages from righstuf.com that Star Driver part 2 BD is out of stock and they're hoping to get more :(

I mean amazon has it, but $45 vs. $30 so I want to keep hoping that bandai will actually produce a 2nd shipment of the BD.  If they never do I'll just pay $45 from amazon.

Hey man...

DEEP DISCOUNT. $27.99.

Holy crap, it's out of stock there already.  :o

Yeah, from what I can tell there's still only been ONE shipment from Bandai of the BD to stores on the release date and then nothing.  I really dunno if they're going to keep producing it.  Sounds like Bandai wants to bail out of the industry asap.

That's why I bought MSG Complete 1 and 2 yesterday. Probably the last DVDs I'll ever buy.

It's an adaptation of a crazed horror story by mangaka Junji Ito.  It is about zombie fish.  With mechanical legs.  Attacking Japan.  It's fucking great.

The second to latest episode of Naruto Shippuden is worth watching (248).  It's one of those event episodes where they put effort into the animation and style, and they don't completely bog down the pace to put space between it and the manga.  Those are the only episodes of Naruto I watch because the rest is some lazy shit.

If you've read the manga, it's the

wtf are you talking about?

E7 was not a show about lolis.  The only lolis were Dewey's army of male lolis on his ship.  The main cast were young adults in their late 20s and 30s, adults in their 50s/60s other than Renton/Eureka/Anemone and their little kids.

AO is ALL lolis and kids so far.  It looks like it's pandering to the new generation of creepy otaku shows.

Has anyone seen The Secret World of Arriette?

It received glowing reviews on RT, but I remember a lot of discussion elsewhere on how it doesn't live up to previous Ghibli works. Like not even in the same ballpark (basically production crew not being Ghibli's A-team).

Thoughts?

The main complaint I seem to be hearing is that Arrietty is not "epic" like some of Ghibli's other movies.

The writing was done by Miyazaki himself and the direction was done by a veteran Ghibli animator doing his first directorial work.

Most non-Miyazaki directed Ghibli films aren't epic, people need to get over it.

Arietty was really good. The kind of thing I can't wait to show my little girl.

Miyazaki does epic pretty well, but it's good for Ghibli to mix things up and keep from being one-note with their movies.

Arrietty was pretty good, a light little bit of inoffensive adventure. It's not deep or large-scale or anything like that, but it's fun and looks wonderful.

On the other hand, it's another in a line of recent Ghibli movies that, while certainly GOOD and among the best anime movies being made, aren't GREAT. Like, nothing Ghibli has done since Spirited Away is worthy of being mentioned in the same paragraph as Porco Rosso [which I had to go back to tonight and pop in for a bit]. The elder Miyazaki seems like he's in his twilight years as a creative talent, maybe he's got another movie or two left in him, but I just don't know if you can ever go back to where he was at his height and Ghibli doesn't have anyone else in their stable that's even close to him in terms of talent and vision.

It's very good, even though it's not Hayao. It holds its own against the larger Ghibli films pretty well. It has plenty of charm, and is well-paced. I liked it better than Howl's Moving Castle, and Pom-Poko.
