Falcom and Tatsunoko Production have released the first trailer for The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel – Northern War, the upcoming anime set in the world of The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel.

Lavi is a girl born and raised in North Ambria State, the poorest region in the northwestern part of Zemuria.

I think calling it a reminaging is just lacking imagination. The first episode had a lot of plot point similarities to the first episode of Utena. That's it.

It's gundam with an Utena coat of paint on it, 100%, but it's Gundam first, Utena second. 

I've watched all 3 eps so far and counterpoint to Rahx's take, I like it a lot.  The setting for the school is that it's a rich kid's school for spoiled corporate children, and a the head of a megaconglomerate runs it as a weird mechanism to determine his daughter's would-be suitor, the bride, if you will.  A minor spoiler that sold me during ep 1, was when one of the fathers of the dueling children has to

call off an assassination on the Bride's father because his kiddo lost a duel, and his power play only works if he's the current champ.

The mechanics of the duels and whatnot might be subject to change, as they seem to be at the whim of a calculating "what I say goes" type, who's willing to change the rules if he sees fit.  All 3 eps have been very different so far (prologue included).

I've been keeping up with it and I'm consistently entertained week to week.  Today's was pretty good.  Lot's of things probably about to pop off in the show soon.

Back then, outsourced animation was booming for the first time. Rocky and Bullwinkle had been animated in Mexico a few years before. Tom and Jerry got shipped off to Czechoslovakia in the early ‘60s. The outsource artists on these productions were a diverse, unexpected bunch, who had their own views about the situation.

Yet maybe none were so unexpected, or so fierce in their views, as Tadahito Mochinaga — the leader of Rudolph’s animation team in Japan. At the time, he was a member of the Japanese Communist Party. His ties to Maoist China were close, and his opinion of America’s influence was low.

Watched Dragonball Super: Super Hero or whatever it's called over the weekend.  It was all right.  Props to them for once again focusing on characters other than Goku and Vegeta like some of the older DBZ movies did.  The shift to 3D was great and it still retained that Toriyama style very well.  They spent entirely too much time in the beginning introducing the bad guys (Red Ribbon, back again) and setting up the plot.  Like way, way too much time. 

But then it shifted to Piccolo and was mostly focused on him.  Cool seeing him finally get a new (visible) transformation and Gohan too, but apparently this may not be canon which kinda sucks if true.  Pretty much everyone pops up in this film and they still manage to cram in Goku and Vegeta (training fight on Beerus' planet) with Broly there for pretty much no reason whatsoever.

Started watching TV anime again for the first time in like 15 years.

Trails of - The Northern War ep1 - Nothing happens, so it feels like the games. Wasn't particularly bad and I definitely expected it to be bad (there is a Trails in the Sky anime OAV. It is not good). Will keep watching.

Trigun Stampede Ep1 - Man, I forgot how one of the things Guilty Gear is inspired by is Trigun, so now as CG anime Trigun sure looks a hell of a lot like Guilty Gear Strive. Which is cool, I like how Strive looks. Pretty nice looking ep, seems like a re-imagining of the manga. No idea if it'll be any good, but seems to have a nice budget. Will keep watching.

Nier Automata Ep1 - Weirdly enough this anime is like a 1:1 recreation of the beginning of the game. To the point where it's like why am I watching this? It's just like watching someone play the game. I wish they had at least done Replicant instead of Automata since the cast is so much better than boring emotionless dolls, but Automata's the popular one, so eh. Will at least watch through the Circus stage. Glad the anime is using the game soundtrack.

Yeah, I saw that when it came out. Crunchyroll calls it ep0. I thought it was ok. Wasn't bad, but didn't think it was great. I thought ep1 of the actual show was way better.

You should also check out some recent ones from the fall season like Blue Lock and Chainsaw Man.

I've heard Chainsaw Man is really good. Will look up Blue Lock. Never heard of it.

Bleach Thousand War is actually pretty good.

To set it up, Bleach’s anime fizzled out in its day. Loads of filler. Animation like dragging clip art across the screen. The final arc of the manga wasn’t adapted. It wasn’t great either. Same pattern and motions of every previous arc. Wow you’re telling me there’s another secret organization and Ichigo has another super hidden talent? Shaking things up.

That last arc is what this new series is adapting. It’s got some production quality behind it. Stylish and well animated fights. The story is what it is but it’s been cleaned up. Mostly what helps for me is the nostalgia after being away from it for a decade.

Similarly I saw they’re doing a new Kenshin anime, presumably animating the last arc that only got an abridged adaptation in one of the movies. Controversy with the creator didn’t slow them down.

Think I’ve forgotten, gotten, or stopped caring about these other white whale adaptations. Really it’s down to a good Berserk series (outside of golden age).

Still hoping in 10-15 years' time we'll have a completed Hunter x Hunter and an announcement for a Madhouse continuation. That's really my personal white whale.

Speaking of Berserk, the Golden Age remake is good based on the first 3 episodes that I've seen so far. It's mostly 2D and then some 3D for seemingly for the large scale battles. Nothing like that shitty full 3D Berserk anime that's out there.

Anyway, I feel like I'm taking crazy pills in regards to Witch and just general anime community discourse. I hate Witch From Mercury. It's been one of the most  idiotic shows I've watched, but people tell me I'm stupid and there's this grand plot and things boiling in the background. I'm done with FullMetal Alchemist Brotherhood which is often considered one is the best anime ever and wow could I not disagree more. I've never considered myself a contriaian, but recently is just seems my taste and opinions are so out of line with most that I'm just confused.

Well, I'll let you know if I join the hater crowd for Witch. Watched ep2 last night and was still fine.

What other Gundam shows do you dislike? Because I pretty lenient on most Gundam stuff and enjoy it. About the only thing I didn't like was Gundam AGE because it was boring and I didn't like the first Hathaway movie much outside the great animation. Even G Reconguista was a lot of fun and Gundam NT wasn't that bad.

Oh and that one that was 3 minute episodes was so terrible (Twilight Axis I think?), but that's mostly because 3 min eps was fucking stupid and even the combined 24min episode version doesn't work.

I still haven't watched Thunderbolt S2, The Origin (read the manga though) and I've only seen parts of V though I know the whole story.

Finished G Witch.

That was a...surprisingly good show? Maybe I just had low expectations because of the school setting and duels potentially making it low stakes but I don't think there was a bad ep. They had good stakes on every fight, the characters were good and the story stuff was solid. The finale was pretty good too.

Also I wasn't big on Aerial's design initially, but it grew on me and ep12 Aerial looks great. Maybe not big on the thruster design, can't tell yet.

The only complaint I have this whole season is the badguy Gundams are ugly and boring. They look straight out of those 3 annoying badguys from SEED or DESTINY can't remember which mixed with some Wing like the gattling gun that Heavyarms has.

I was somewhat disappointed in ep12's finale since

They didn't kill them off so we have to have another whole season of these annoying kids and their ugly gundams.

Also made the very short Aerial fight kinda feel half-assed. Would've been better if it was a longer fight and killed at least one of the ugly gundams.

The post-credit smackdown kinda made up for a bit although the whole OH NO MORIENE IS NOW GOING TO BE SCARED OF SULETTA! thing going into S2 is kind of lame.

So the little red head girl in ep0 isn't Suletta, right? Because that was 21 years ago and Suletta is like 16 so she wouldn't have even been born. Since the tarot reading girl dropped a hint that Aerial has a sister and baby girl was in the Elan fight when they went all Newtype, I'm assuming that the little girl became the ghost in the machine and a few years later her mom had Sulleta so Sulleta is piloting a gundam with the ghost of her older sister in it.

And since her mom has the Char mask, she's obviously gonna be the main bad at some point.
