Sunday is pretty much just a big drinking day here, and a chill day for those who don't care to party. All the Christmas stuff goes down on Christmas Eve.

Anyway, is there a reason why you couldn't just suggest that instead of doing the church thing you do it old school and slaughter some animal as a sacrifice to the seasonal deities?

It's hard for western foreigners in Japan, because Japan just DOESN'T DO CHRISTMAS the same way as in 'murica. It's not a holiday, so most people work during it. The company I just left, the president was an exchange student in the USA, and he LOVES Christmas, so he gives everyone the day off. Even so, we've had to work it with pretty common frequency when we're in crunch, and it's been taken away pretty casually -- I feel like such a thing would be impossible to pull in the USA.

So, hey, Christmas on a Sunday is pretty much the one day this place couldn't mess with it.

I found that Xmas there basically meant store decorations and some sales, plus Xmas cake. Which is fine by me since I don't celebrate Xmas anyway. But having to work on a day I'd always had off previously sucked so bad, so I'd just use nenkyu.

I think it sucks worse having to go right back in on the 26th, that's like a recuperation day, it's more important than Christmas to me because it is QUALITY ALONE time.

Of course, my work schedule looks pretty bleak in January, and this December has (oddly) been slamming, so maybe I will take an "extra Christmas" then.

Ha, I was confused by the thread title until I read the OP - really shows have little I've gone to church in recent years. When I was younger though, Christmas Sundays were horrible. We'd spend Christmas Eve in Detroit at my grandma's house, then have to get up super early and leave for church. Then around 3PM we'd head back to grandma's house, having missed a lot of fun stuff $:-\$

This year I'm pretty sure only one of my uncles is going to church, since he's a deacon. Then he'll get back and chastise us for not going

I love my extended family but the praise jebus talk on xmas is enough to set my teeth on end. It is what it is. If you're in a black southern family I can pretty much say no there is no easy way around it unless you want to offend everybody so I just sit and watch the basketball games. Good food though.

The only time I went to Sunday church was because I wanted to see what it was about and I had an "in" at the time. Pretty boring. I might go again to a stereotypical black church where they sing and clap and dance like in movies.

Haven't been to a church since... the early '90's? I knew religion and I wouldn't get along when I discovered that even the Unitarians were too strict for me.

It's gonna be great. still so many hoops to jump through before I can begin working on it though, like another semester of law school and the grad school application process and waiting for acceptance and before any of that, waiting for my current semester's grades, which won't be posted until after next semester starts and if I fail something, then I can't take a required course and have to jump back into the course I failed a week after it starts and will make my class load super heavy. fucking fuck. man, 1st world problems can be a bitch too :'(

Yeah, it was kind of convenient since we were taking a family trip over there anyway.
