I don't think Titanfall or Destiny will light the world on fire.  Sci-fi doesn't have as broad an appeal as modern military.

Which is why I think TF sticking to semi recognizable military of sorts will help it do better overall. Bungie have gone hard sci fi completely with Destiny at least in Halo you had the marines always grounding the story in human terms.

I'm not too surprised about DayZ, since a lot of people played and loved the Arma II mod, but Starbound has really come out of nowhere. Good on them.

3 million sold through in 2013.

It looks like December NPD will be good for Xbone(UK hardware is at 360k and LagerPD claims selling like shit outside of UK).

But seriously,Nintendo should enter into biggest fuck up Guinness book.

So it was 919k in november in the us, 360k in the uk. Maybe leaves 1.5 million for the bone in the us in december?

1.2 million/1.5 million xbone december npd

Terraria sold over 2 million copies as of a year ago and Starbound has been billed as Terraria 2 (even though there is a Terraria 2 in development  :dizzy).

Uh, is this like Dwarf Fortress?

OMG Dwarf Fortress is awesome, right? We want a Dwarf Fortress feel, in that we want to build complex, inter-related simulations that you can manage, and just watch your settlers live their lives in an ant-farmish kind of way...until disaster happens, then maybe some of them stop living their lives all together. We won't have the incredible depth of Dwarf Fortress at the start, but as long as there's support for the game, we'll keep adding more and more things to do.

oh come on dog,i was sort of pulling your chain but you can't tell me "they all look different" they are all subscribing to the basic of "explore around,chop some tree,build a house,gather more material,build more stuff" created by minecraft and reworked by terraria and it's so dang obvious that they all have to go under "no no dude,this game totaly isn't a terraria/dwarf fortress clone just inspired" one of them even goes as far as copying the 3D 8-bit visuals of minecraft!

Wow xbox is already almost 50% behind right out of the gate, and PS4 is still supply constrained.

Wonder if MS has a backup plan.

I think we all saw this coming since E3 buy you would think they would at least be able to beat the PS4 at launch in the US and UK.

Oscar, what are your thoughts on PS4 selling 4.2 million to consumers (as of December 28th) and 9.8 million software units (2.3 attach rate)?

Does it align with any of your projections? And given the upcoming software releases and the pre-launch dust settling down, what trajectory do you think it'll follow?

Oh noes, games aping other games  ::) Like all games are friggn original and theres no such thing as genre conventions? This just happens to be a relatively new genre. It's good when a breakout game like Minecraft lands and competitors are trying similar things, it creates competition and innovation. Like I think Terraria does a lot of things better than Minecraft for example.

Some of these games do look like shameless knock offs though, but you can't blame these people for wanting a piece of the pie.

I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft drops the price of the Bone to PS4 parity in the next couple of months.  While it is selling very well, Microsoft needs to make sure that the PS4 doesn't pull too far ahead, which seems likely considering how nobody is going to buy the Xbox in Japan.

I have to give Iwata a lot of credit: every day where he doesn't kill himself out of shame is a commendable feat.

By the time Titanfall launches gap will be at 2 million at least.

One big reason the market will decline in comparison to last gen is largely because there is no Wii. There will be no strong third console to prop up the market to those numbers. The Nintendo bubble is gone. So the hardware numbers based on three relatively strong consoles won't exist.

That being said I think that is different than a market crash. It's a market correction. I never did think the market would crash. And I don't think it will in the near future of this console generation.

PS4 = 4.2 million in 1.5 months
PS3 = 3.5 million in 4.5 months

Xbone = 3 million in 1.25 months
Xbox360 = 1.5 million in 1.25 months

Wii U = 4.3 million in 12 months
Wii = 18~ million in 12 months

Wii U definitely stands out like a sore thumb there.

Nintendoland was a slow burner - there's a lot more to it that first appears, though the game structure doesn't help reveal that. I ended up enjoying it for what it was.

Wii Party U is just dire - it's an exercise in the thing wiping it's ass on your time. Avoid it. It's shockingly bad. And the Mario Party style board game - holy shit. Everything is sloooow.

You joke here, but in an ideal world where Sony were clever enough to do it, and MS and Nintendo would allow it - PlayStation Now on other platforms would be amazing. They're currently saying only PS1/2/3 games, so its not like it steals customers from their new tranche of business on PS4/Vita, its just extra subscribers and fans added to what they would have had otherwise. Like a gateway drug.

If the streaming trial works in January and launch goes well later in the year, I wouldn't rule out MS launching their rival service and this along with digital stores being how we arrive at a more unified console platform future... imagine how much they'd love to have us as ongoing subscribers rather than getting sales in 5 year spurts

We'll know how stuffed the channels are once we get the NPD numbers in a few days. From reading GAF it seems like the XB1 is fairly popular.

Lol no, I'm Albanian/Turkish and live in the Netherlands. I just visited Germany to see if they had any Ps4's available, because the console is sold out in NL.

The X1 isn't even available here in Holland. No one is interested anyway.

Bone is dead here too in Ireland.

Ps4 demo units always have people on them (its set up with fifa 14 everywhere) no one seems to want to play the forza Bone units.

Saw signs around town yesterday saying the ps4 is back in stock, went to ask and they had 2 left.
