Thief is also rumored to be sub 1080p on the X1. This will definitely cost MS a lot of sales.

Would be an argument if PC gaming were relevant. But since that's not the case, yeah, people will buy the console version with the better graphics. Happened last gen as well. PC version will always look better. But who the hell cares for that? PC gamers only buy $2 games during a steam sale anyway.

All video game companies & retailers have done over the past 10 years is promote pre-orders to the point where everything is so ridiculously front loaded, so of course it sounds more imrpessive after a short period of time. But it also means you run out of sweaty fanboys sooner and then you have to rely on selling to a group of consumers who left the industry years ago and probably can't tell the difference between 480 and 1080p. And if they can they don't are because your 5 hour game costs $60.

In not-console-wars-land, Banished seems to be doing pretty good.  It's the top seller on Steam (beating out DayZ and Rust), has over 15,000 concurrent players and was made by one guy.

I wouldn't be surprised if it reaches 100k copies in a week or so.
