Sort of.  You only "own" those games so long as you're a Playstation Plus member.  Meaning, if you buy a month, after that month all those "free" games can't be played.

The other thing is that these games won't always be Playstation Plus bonuses.  It's a weird system.  I only got in it because of the Target pricing thing.

Yep, info about it leaked last Fall from the Australia ratings board.

My wife is psyched to play it again.

Here's the thing, if you're like me and figure you're going to be paying for PS+ for the next 20 years or whatever because $50 a year for a grab bag of bad games is sort of exciting in a "I'm bad at math" way, kind of like buying crappy games on Steam sales for $3 to get a ticket to maybe win a crappy game worth $3 with a 1/20 chance, if that's you then, the "games go away after you quit" doesn't really matter.  All that matters is if they ever get anything you would actually want to play.

If you are like normal people, then it's more like "This is a rental service.  If I actually play through and enjoy all these free games in a year and then quit my subscription, it might be worth it".  But if you're going to backlog them all and never get to them and your backlog of PS+ games grows per month and then you quit and lose it all, that's a total waste of money.

And because when you subscribe you don't get access to back catalog of free PS+ games but when you stay subscribed you keep access to back catalog, there's sort of a point to get in as soon as you can and stay in to accumulate a large library of free games to play before you quit.

/end Sony shilling.

I dunno, I signed up last May for $50 to get Stacking.  Here's what I've gotten so far that I would have actually bought with real money:

Stacking ($15), Marvel Pinball ($15), RE1-3/Crash 1-3/Spiro 1-3/Syphon Filter 1-3 (worth a couple bucks all combined), some discounts on a few games like Contra Uprising and Outland (maybe $10-15 saved total), Uncharted Comic Book ($5-10), and Simpsons Arcade coming up + whatever is in the next few months.  Plus got all the Uncharted 2 DLC for free if I ever want to play the MP again.  So I think it'll have landed close to even.

If you didn't have a PC or a X360 stuff like BttF full series, Tomb Raider Underworld, Far Cry 2, etc... are all fairly decent free stuff.

More free stuff.  For once, I don't own most of it and they are not games that you would have to pay me to play.  Will play Shank 2 and try out Shift 2.  Were either of those any good?  I never played Shank 1 because the demo kind of sucked and I heard the full game kind of sucked.

I hadn't seen this topic the first time around, so my reactions were, in order:
OMG, Far Cry 2 is free!
Oooh! Comix Zone and Golden Axe are free, too!
Time to use that free month of PSNPlus+ or whatever Sony gave me for accidentally giving my user information to Kazakstan!
Oh, wait, it's for February, we're already at the end of March.
Oh, and the games will only work for as long as I have the PS+ subscription, which is a month.
And it will only work on my PS3, which I'm not taking back to the USA immediately.
And I'd have to turn on my PS3 for all of this to work, anyway...

so far PS Plus paid for itself with discounts.  then again, I got my PS Plus sub for $15 at target.

/shill

I'm pretty excited for HOTD4.  Barely played it in the arcades and judging from the HOTD3 demo it'll control great with the move.  Not a PS Plus exclusive, but I do save a whopping 3 dollars!

though it's pretty dumb that ps plus doesn't do anything for the vita.  cloud saving is one way to get around locked saves, like how I can backup my Dark Souls save, or how you can cloud save iOS games normally tied to the app.

Rock of Ages was supposed to be pretty dece right?

Wasn't a fan, personally. There was absolutely no challenge in the story mode unless you try to get all the keys, and that was more frustrating than fun because it takes a bit of trial and error and a bit of luck to get some of them. The only thing I thought it had going for it was the presentation as they got down the Monty Python visuals and humour pretty well. Actually, I did like the time trials but they were over pretty quickly.

Having said that, if it's free you may as well give it a go.

Velocity is a fun game.  It's like a shoot em up racing game.  You have a zero-shift like teleport mechanic to avoid obstacles and stuff.

It's a Mini, meaning I didn't know it existed until I saw some positive talk and that it's free for PS+ people.  But it's worth checking out.

I don't know how the hell Sony expects people to buy Minis otherwise.  For some reason it's the only category in the store that separates all the games by each alphabetical letter instead of a group of letters.  Like anyone's going to waste their time going down the entire alphabet.

There are a lot of cool Minis that unfortunately don't get the attention they deserve because the developers don't believe in releasing trailers, and of course Sony negligence (largely SCEA's doing, since the Minis idea was an SCEE one and they at least attempted to promote those games).

One of my favourites last year was The 2D Adventures of Rotating Octopus Character, the developer just released this new one:

It's free for US plus members right now.

Some minis are ok from the free ones I've played through PS+

But they have 2 major problems:

1) Graphical resolution.  The games are made at such a low resolution (phone resolution?) that when played on the PS3 they look TERRIBLE.  Even 2d flash stuff that could look great if it was just re-rendered at HD resolution looks blurry and a mess.  This makes me never want to play a mini on the PS3.  On the PSP they look ok, but still not great.

2) No trophy support.  With no trophies, they feel odd on a system where every other type of game has trophies.  Xbox Live Indie games have the same problem but at least they look sharp and don't have problem #1.  Though now a days, I just wait for them to re-release XBLIG on Steam with achievements and more options.

For PS4 they need to re-work both of those items if they want anybody to buy minis.  It's also a shame because there are some decent games there made by talented people but the games get completely ignored because they are minis.  Minis also seem to have an exclusive contract with Sony for a long period of time since I haven't seen anyone re-release their mini game on Steam.

Minis are developed on PSP devkits, which explains the resolution and lack of trophies. Hungry Giraffe was actually able to use high res assets so the game looked great on both PSP, and PS3, but apparently Sony told them to not share their secret... I imagine it wouldn't work for most games anyways, due to the 100MB size limit.

As for your Steam comment, I don't think SCE cares enough to offer exclusivity deals. Besides that, many Minis have already been ported to iOS and Android. It's likely that the developers were either rejected by Valve, or didn't view Steam as a viable avenue.

I actually don't think Minis has a future. There's no reason to not make a PlayStation Suite game if SCE enables PS3 playback.

I don't mean to imply that Sony is money hatting minis for exclusive periods.

But rather that the contract you sign to publish a mini on PSN probably includes a "you cannot publish this game on another platform for x amount of months" paragraph.

Just plain challenging. My memory is a bit foggy, but if I recall correctly you can choose between five stages in the beginning. Each stage is essentially one giant boss fight against one huge dude and a bunch of minions. If you beat a boss you get some kind of power, similar to how the stages work in Mega Man. I don't think I ever managed to beat more than one boss before I reached the game over screen. Beating all five of them without dying seems like a herculean task to me. The combat is something between a stylish action title and Zone of the Enders.
