It's like Golden Corral, the only people who actually WANT to go there are little kids and old people.

My grandma loves places like CJ. She also has cups from every fast food place in her car for free pop.

I think part of it has to do with growing during the Great Depression.

Never heard of it, I'm guessing it's not a Michigan thing. Is it like an Old Country Buffet or something?

Not buffet style. They serve gigantic portions of mediocre food in middle class shopping mall locations. Dan Savage wrote about them in Skipping to Sodom and Gammorah.

The only place I can think of that serves huge portions around here is Tony's.

We go once a year, right before our canoe race. You can literally order a pound of bacon

It's a diner, and pretty damn awesome imo; lots of truck drivers come through. Granted I wouldn't eat there more than once or twice a year, but the food is good

 :(

I liked CJ before it closed down in my town.  I usually only go for three things, french onion soup, jamabalaya and bacon cheeseburger.  CJ is not bad as long as you get the simple stuff.

I tried their steak and seafood once and it wasn't great, especially since those items aren't that cheap.  At $30, I expect a steak that tastes significantly better than something at Chilli's.

Quote from: Wiki
Claim Jumper is a restaurant chain headquartered in Irvine, California with 45 locations in Arizona, California, Illinois, Colorado, Nevada, Washington, Wisconsin and Oregon. Founder Craig Nickoloff opened the first Claim Jumper Restaurant in Los Alamitos, California in 1977.[1] Until 2005, CWN Management, Inc., which operates the Claim Jumper chain, had been privately owned by the Nickoloff family. Claim Jumper has to do with the gold rush. The restaurants are done up to look like that time period.

Stick with Jambalaya.  It's tasty and the portion is quite a bit smaller than most of their stuff.  I like it better with rice instead of pasta.

Really?  A lot of restaurants in So Cal give both options.

Also, Maf, nevermind what I said, you should probably just stick with beef stew.

Had a dinner at Red Lobster tonight that was at least 3000 calories.  Feasted like a boss.

I had a Lobster Lover combo:

and 1/2 of this lobter bake:

bunch of appetizers, half a plate of lobster mac and cheese, half a plate of lobster mashed potatoes and a slice of apple pie.

Almost everything was soaking in butter and the stuff that wasn't, like the lobsters, I dipped in butter as well.

I've warned my roomate to be ready to do CPR on me for the next 12 hours.
