Author Topic: Kingdom Hearts 3D of confusing story and amazing gameplay (Read 4834 times)

Not the DS ones, just CoM. However I did buy KH1,2, and Re:CoM for my older sister with the intent of eventually playing them.

To me this is a solid action game for one of my systems. Nothing more or less.

Christ, I can't believe KH is 10 years old. I got that game when I was 15 years old, one month before I turned 16.

I loved that game and it stands as the only KH that feels "magical" to me. Mainly because it was really fresh and interesting at the time.

KH2 is mashy mashy compared to KH1. KH1, you actually had to use your entire arsenal and enemies actually had patterns. KH2? Mash mash mash mash.

in the series' overall plot (lol), its:

BBS -> KH1 -> CoM -> The shitty DS one -> KHII -> KH Re:coded -> KH3D -> KH3 when it comes out

and KH2 had just much more awesome customization, and I enjoyed leveling Sora up so much more in II than in I. I got him to level 99

in all seriousness i do like the plot but it's full of fluff just to make it looks more complicated (the more spinoffish one are the most guilty of this) which is where a lot of "KINGDOM HEARTS PLOT IS STUPID LOLOLOLOLOL" comment stem from,i think the idea of the villain splitting into more villains who have nothing to do with each other is decent at it's core

BBS is a prequel. This has 100% (or not depending on your view) new worlds and it carries on the story from previous games. Takes its gameplay from BBS and improves on it.

Basically there are 3 categories to this series:

Numbered titles, which are on console and developed by Nomura's main team in Tokyo. Includes KH1, KH2 and will someday include KH3 if Nomura's team ever finishes the project they're currently tied up with (Versus XIII)

"A" spinoffs, which are on handhelds and developed by the team in Osaka that once made Brave Fencer Musashi. Includes Birth by Sleep and now KH3D. These have a lot of new content and are nearly on par with the numbered titles, in fact some people prefer BBS to the numbered titles because the Osaka team rox.

"B" spinoffs, which are also on handhelds and outsourced. Includes CoM, 358/2 Days and Recoded. These have mostly recycled content and are generally low-budget cash-ins, though some people like some of them.

kh1 is a mediocre-at-best game

kh2 is a downgrade in every way possible. the story-heavy intro is THREE HOURS LONG and it just goes downhill from there.

What the hell? Metroid esque gameplay? The player is tasked with walking between tiny arenas fighting enemies until they trigger the next distinguished mentally-challenged cutscene.

You obviously haven't played kingdom hearts, at least not at length. You unlock certain places and chests using trinity. In many cases trinity allows you to access locations you otherwise couldn't. You also gain new abilities: double jump, glide, magic that you use on the environment to access hard to reach chests. The game routinely teases chests in places you other wise can't reach until you gain new abilities to access them.

Sounds like Metroid to me.

I've played enough hours of KH to know its disingenuous to make the comparison. The worlds are cramped and abbreviated and don't require lateral thinking in the slightest to progress. Its a babby franchise and people need to stop excusing its garbage design principles.

In 10th grade when KH came out in Japan I would listen to simple and clean's Japanese version every day as soon as I got home in Winamp. I don't regret it.

I didn't say it was the exact thing as Metroid but I get similar enjoyment from it. To me there's no difference between seeing a door I can't open because I don't have the right weapon in Metroid and a chest in Kingdom Hearts that I see at the very beginning of he game that requires me to use the glide upgrade to reach it. Both fulfill my inner completionist and both are used for game progression to allow you to get to new places.

I tried Birth By Sleep again and kinda enjoyed it more now that I forgot all the systems. Looking through the menu, there's a bar to fill up for everything, like, everything. You can level up high jump, which is about 1.2 the height of regular jump. There's an "attack" called break where Zack does upside down push ups and you gotta time a button press. the actual combat is mash mash what the fuck is gold dust qte premature magma climax mash mash press triangle qte direct link qte mash mash.

I think why I liked KH1/2 more is because of how basic those were. Needlessly making the game more complex doesn't mean it adds depth or nuance to the gameplay.

Anyway, I jumped in and Minnie Mouse told me to race against Pete. And then I was in a pinball machine or something. And then I fought in the Hercules world against Zack. And then I stopped playing in deep space, which is Lilo and Snitch inspired (? I never really watched that). But yeah, it was more enjoyable when I ignored all the dumbness.

I'd probably try it again if I have a long flight or it's released on PSN to play it on the Vita. Or just skip it and go with the 3DS game whenever it's cheap.

you act like i said kingdom heats plays exactly like metroid. it doesn't.

however, metroid is FULL of moments where you're like,"how in the fuck do I get those missiles?" which are in plain sight that you simply just can't reach with your current moveset. Kingdom Hearts gave me a similar feeling.

if you don't understand this from what I posted, you either: a. are distinguished mentally-challenged, b. have never played metroid, or c. whoosh.
